Elfen Lied

Oct 18, 2020

Basically its Carrie. It's captivating. Starts off with a bang and lets you know "yo this is completely stunning mentally". It ebbs and flows with the action and fights. Letting you deliberately breathe and relax into a mundane story. And then smacks you in the face with a hammer. The stupid parts really bring the violence and psychological aspects into sharp focus. The side characters are purposely annoying. The bad guys are terrible. The entire time I was hooked waiting for her to destroy them all. It's crazy how you not only sympathize with her but you start to agree that exterminating the... See full review

Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers

Oct 17, 2020

So this has mixed reviews and in watching, I totally get it. I was maybe in ep 4 or 5 thinking "they're so irritating". Then around ep 7 I started to really get caught up in the mystery and who done it factor. But untill then, it's definitely annoying. Overall was okay. I do recommend you watch it. And I have to say I'm pleased as punch I guessed right to the culprit. I have a feeling I know who it is for second season too! I will say I'm pretty sure I only guessed right because I stuck with my original instinct. There's not a ton of clues nd there is a LOT of misdirection. Good Luck... See full review

Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace

Oct 14, 2020

The animation is pretty good and music enjoyable. Random cases of mystery and crime. It's played for the most part as a dark comedy (but it not actually funny. A lot of the mysteries take part over two episodes. And the minor characters carry over throughout the series. Where it really falls down on is the completely unlikeable main characters. One is a sarcastic, jaded, "too cool genius" detective. He is lacking in social skills but not in an endearing cute way. Halfway thru he finally shares his back story, but it doesn't make him any more likeable. It feels like he's just reciting facts... See full review

Oh my. I love it. I absolutely love it. From the first episode it was clear to me that this was an anime like no other. Slightly ridiculous and over the top in the best way possible. I always get a huge grin on my face watching. It's so full of color and life and fun! Escape artist prisoners but it quickly becomes clear the bigger arc is friendship. There is an underlying subplot. However I love the pacing. You get plenty of "meaty" storylines so you don't lose interest waiting for the big reveal. It's hard for me to find a show that balances intrigue with me just skipping to the end. With this... See full review

Gag me. No actually gag the annoying girl who starts complaining 5 minutes into the show. Could have been interesting to explore the ideas of abandonment,  what it means to be human vs tool, consequences for destroying your  home etc. Does it? Nah. Maybe the characters are compelling and dynamic and.....oh they're flat too. Well one is a strong female leader and the other two companions are stereotypical blondo bimbos despite looking like plain Janes. Without captivating music or animation. Don't punish yourself by watching this.

Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun

Oct 7, 2020

So I think whether or not you like depends strongly on your age. If you are in the 11-17 group: this is going to be the best, most relatable, cutest anime ever. However if you're over the age of about 18, you'll be bored wondering why home girl keeps putting of saying anything to main guy even though there are very clear easy opportunities to do so. This is one of the few times I think age is a big factor to the enjoyment. I'm over 18. I was not amused.

Intriguing. However literally everyone hints to main guy that there's a deeper story. He doesn't press anyone about all the clues given. Instead he stalks this mysterious girl and tries to get close to her. There's a lot of misdirects and red herrings that make it interesting.  Usually the ex machina is for saving people, but this does the opposite. Anytime anything of real substance is about to be shared: boom! They dead! I think if you like typical slasher films, you'll like this too. The pacing is typical of dramatic horror mysteries. Seemingly slow but does that to build tension. The deaths are on... See full review

ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.

Slow, slow, slow, slow, slow burn. The main character quality is he is obsessed with bread and cigarettes. Did I mention the story moves slowly? It takes until episode 7 for anything really major to happen. Even then it doesn't move the story along, it's just a major point. Everything seems to be driven by rumors. Once the main character knows this detail, magically everyone knows it too. I kept watching because I figured there was no way an entire anime could be this plain. It remained bland even with the climax at episode 12

Diabolik Lovers

So here's the thing. It could have been good if home girl would have leaned into it. I get it's a shocking and overwhelming situation.....but not for days, weeks on end. Eventually you adapt or at the very least come up with some survival tactics. For example instead of leaning away saying "stop no no stop": you run, you hide, you wear garblic, you don't brush your teeth, you strap a knife to your leg, you pick a guy and say I'm only yours, SOMETHING.  Ahem.  Anywho. I actually liked the guys. They were consistent and had reason for being creepy. The back story was intriguing. However... See full review

Garo: Vanishing Line

This is a "mature" anime with lots of adults themes and scenes. Aggressive and in your face. Animation flashes and moves in a skilled, artistic way. Think Afro Samurai or Devilman Crybaby. Only flaw is sometimes too fast to really absorb the beauty or horror on screen.

Future Diary

Sep 29, 2020

Last man standing premise. However it's completely ruined by the pathetic main boy. Even the psycho girl isn't that bad; she at least is interesting and layered. The boy however is a naive, weak minded coward that just lets things happen around him and then regrets his inaction. I wanted him to die so bad by ep 9 or 10. Which sucks because the story goes till ep 26 and he doesn't come even close to the truth until ep 23. He has no character development other than becoming infatuated with crazy girl.

Black Butler 2

Sep 28, 2020

I know it's poor form to compare season 2 to season 1 however that's what you're going to do in a series. I don't understand why it took so long to explain what's going on when season one left on a cliffhanger. People are going to be watching, just wanting to know the answer and not really concentrating on the current story untill you do. Yet It's not really explained until episode 5/ 6.  It's so obvious they want you to love hating Alois. However stuffing a tragic past and sadistic abuse into one scene doesn't quite work for me. It's very heavy-handed with how you should interpret his character. It's... See full review

Black Butler

Sep 28, 2020

The story is what happens when you make a contract with the devil. With some stand out characters, they make this anime above average. The Butler carries the entire show. I don't even mind because he is truly just that good. Bit of humor thrown in from time to time. Main boy is eye roll worthy but I think he is extremely honest as a conceited, arrogant and selfish british elite named Ciel. Weird theme of "cleansing humans" by the villian. Weird because humans will always be unclean, soooo he gonna need to kill entire world? Also theme of angels vs demon but angels shown as evil and demons... See full review

Super HxEros

Sep 27, 2020

So main girl gets slut shamed when she's around five so now that she's a teenager she's super embarrassed to have any kind of feelings especially sexual ones. She joined a team who's whole way of fighting the villains is to use their sexual energy. Needless to say it's a real challenge for her to accept her freakiness.  As a freaky girl myself, I was looking forward to some sexual innuendos. However it fell very flat, no humor and despite the ridiculous premises it took itself way too seriously.

Reminds me of Drifters but with much crapier animation. The sounds isn't amazing but the opening theme sure is. Its from the Yoshida Brothers: LOVED THAT. They give you bits and pieces to the mystery, but the major chunk of the puzzle is not revealed untill ep 11. Which if you're really paying attention, you'll be able guess at least most of the twist. If you want to know the reason for any/all the bad reviews, read the spolier below. The characters are really well developed. They have and show their... See full review

Heroic Age

Interesting world building and decent conflict. I liked the opening song. However every single battle has the same 4 notes. There's lots of battles. Light Spoilers: Then at Episode 10 it's super obvious that the Princess that everyone loves should be in power. Instead she wrings her hands and cries over the many deaths her inaction is causing. And keeps doing nothing for another 4 episodes..... meanwhile an entire planet gets killed :/ They really dragged out the fights way too long, otherwise it would have been really good. Fruits Basket 2nd Season

Sep 19, 2020

Still going strong with Season 2 focusing more on the growth of Yuki and school time. Secondary characters get more face time and their stories expanded on too. All I know is that there is zero way Akito gets "redeemed" in my eyes. I read the wiki on that character because I couldn't fathom how it could possibly be turned around. *Spoilers* I still don't agree with the results. Because here's the thing, all 12 members of the zodiac had terrible parents, were abused (by her) and none of them turned around and started abusing others. True some didn't know how to properly interact with others, but... See full review

Terra Formars: Revenge

Sep 17, 2020

(Light Spoilers) So in the first episode it addresses almost every single point I brought up in my review of Season 1. It's almost as if they read it?!! Lol obviously not but someone with common sense must have spoke up and told them to fix it. So they tried!  Season 2 is a GIANT departure from Season 1. Animation bright cartoony vs S1 muted palette. The flashbacks happen less frequently and in a more organized manner. The story is addressed as to why they'd send 100 non combatants to place where soliders got destroyed at before. Exposes more of the behind the scenes manipulation of world powers... See full review

Terra Formars

Sep 15, 2020

(Light spoilers) Was interesting how cocky the humans were, not one time but THREE times. They go to Mars and each time get completely eviscerated because they underestimate the cockroaches. I'm like dude, cockroaches on earth are impossible to kill and they only an inch long; why you think 6 feet tall cockroaches are going to be easier to defeat??! Plus you don't want to kill them but CAPTURE them, y'all all super gonna die. I liked the human characters but if they *that* dumb, they kinda deserve the butt whooping. They give 100 humans surgery where a serum can activate animal genome. However when they... See full review

Mekakucity Actors

Sep 14, 2020

The story is good but extremely confusing, super complicated and very hard to follow. You have to really focus and pay attention to every detail. Story jumps forward and backward in time and also jumps from character to character without warning. If you go along for the ride and don't try to hard to figure things out, you may end up liking it. Personally I don't mind a complex plot, I do mind clif hangers in the middle of an episode. For example: I know what happened to your body. Tell me now. Naw let's wait. Please! Okay I'll tell you. End scene and switching to brand new characters. Ugh. No thanks... See full review

At certain times the animation is so cool. Main girl is dippy and really into army accessories. She would flip during battle and have a blood lust for killing, then as soon as she went back to "herself" she became a nerdy, freaked out about everything little girl. As a main character, not very enjoyable. There is a ton of side characters that aren't very interesting without much depth but the story will follow them around for a while. Jack was the coolest but it doesn't really focus on him or his history until literally the last episode. I hated the people running the organization. Plus her... See full review

Kaze no Stigma

Sep 7, 2020

I would have rated higher but it's hard to do so when of the 2 main characters, one acts like she's 4 years old. Loved everything else though. The story has nice theme of parents expectations and remembering people who are kind to you. The main boy has his flaws but you understand them and can even relate to many. The main girl constantly tries to aggressively kill/hurt him and then pouts when she fails. I tolerated her because main boy did, and when he choose to interact with her the scene just exploded with charisma. The overall show and characters were 8 (possibly 9) However the main girl had zero... See full review
