i rate based on how much i enjoyed the anime/manga. characters, sound, animation, etc may come into play but at the end of it all, i rate the anime or manga based on my overall enjoyment. i do not believe there is such thing as the "perfect" anime/manga in the sense that there was nothing wrong and it is 100% flawless - no matter how incredible the overall anime/manga there are things that i would change or i wasn't too fond of, but that being said, it can still be a "5 star" or a "perfect" anime/manga.

★★★★★ - i absolutely loved reading/watching this and it is absolutely incredible. everything about this was brilliant. i couldn't recommend enough.

★★★★☆ - i loved this and it was extrenely good. would highly recommend. 

★★★☆☆ - i liked it. it was not great but it was alright. it was a decent read/watch.

★★☆☆☆ - very bad. barely watchable but not worth my time.

★☆☆☆☆ - extremely terrible and i hated every second. wasted my time.

the lowest rating i will give is a half star, and that is what i consider a zero or a negative number, just the absolute pits, pure garbage should have never been made. a waste of time, money and paper.
