I honestly think the idea of the show is great, "magical girl show where the girls also canonically sing as it fuels their magical powers"... but so much is done poorly that nothing is really able to shine, primarily the writing. Characters’ actions and words seemed disjoined, as if they were physically not noticing where they are, what’s going on, or even what the last person in conversation said. Flashbacks to things that literally happened about 30 seconds before are rampant and unnecessary. Many other times people will stop talking like humans and expressly explain everything... Maoyu: Archenemy & Hero

It's like the author watched Spice & Wolf as well as Overlord, then said "yeah, I could make that", and then failed on both fronts. The world itself is purposely typical of a fantasy world and immediately attempts to subvert itself with the first major scene, but then proceeds to fall back into typical storytelling with not much nuance to share. The Pet Girl of Sakurasou

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo (or "The Pet Girl of Sakurasou") took me by surprise. My friend recommended the show to me quite a while back and after putting it off for a bit, I decided to give it a try. Story When the show starts it seems to be another, slightly above average show.
