Cheer Boys!!

Jul 9, 2021

Cheer Boys is a less popular sports anime. It isn't very well known for a reason. The plot takes the most overplayed tropes of the genre and poorly executes them. The story itself is bland and really isn't all that interesting. The characters do one chant for the entire series and hearing it over and over again can get really tiring. The animation is one of the best things about the series but there is definitely much better animation out there. The characters still played into commonly used tropes but at least presented some degree of individualism. The characters had unique personalities yet they... See full review

I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level

Jul 5, 2021

I wasn't a huge fan of this. I thought the original premise seemed pretty interesting but as time went on and I continued to watch it, everything kind of fell into a boring pattern and it wasn't really entertaining. This is definitely something to play for baclground noise and glances at the screen while you mess around on your phone. The story didn't really do anything for me. The animation was definitely really beautiful and high quality. The characters were just your typical tropes done just below average quality. It wasn't really bad or anything I just didn't think it was all that good.

So I'm a Spider, So What?

Jul 5, 2021

This is one of those anime that people will either love or hate. I personally loved it. To get the main point out of the way, yes, the animation is truly horrible at times. However Kumoko's (MC) story is amazing and I loved watching her development. I really had no interest in the other classmates and just wanted to watch Kumoko narrowly avoid death and get really powerful with time. The best part of this whole series was her personality and her evolution into a powerful being. The story of her classmates is important to achieve the end result so those parts were worth watching. All of the characters... See full review

Backflip!!

Jun 26, 2021

I liked Backflip!! a lot. It was sweet and fun to watch but definitely could have used some improvements because much of the story consisted of tropes that have been seen throughout a lot of sports anime. The characters were all not really developed and also consisted of some really common tropes. That isn't my way of saying it was bad, however it was incredibly predictable and just lacked originality in its concepts. This was really good and it was animated beautifully. It is more of a fun watch than a serious one so if that is something you are looking for then this is definitely for you.

The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent

Jun 24, 2021

I truly loved this anime. I recommend anyone looking for a romantic isekai that is fairly slow paced to definitely consider this. If you enjoyed Ascendance of a Bookworm I think you will like this a lot. I haven't read the source material but watching this has made me very interested in the manga or novels. The story is pretty good and there are some issues within it, however those issues are resolved by the quality of the rest of the series. The animation is beautiful and so easy to watch. The character design is beautifully executed with virtually no unrealistically proportioned bodies (in fact... See full review

Burning Kabaddi

Jun 21, 2021

This is really dead average. I am not super into sports anime and just watched this to kill time but it really isn't very good. Plot breakdown: Star soccer player quits soccer and starts secretly streaming. Someone on the kabaddi team extorts him into joining after finding out he became a streamer. He learns to play kabaddi, season continues that way. The animation is average at best. The characters are one dimensional and bland. I wouldn't really recommend watching this but if you are into sports this might be for you.

Soul Eater

Jun 13, 2021

Soul Eater was really good. It was fun to watch and had the ideal pacing and perfect blend of side stories. The beginning takes time to introduce the characters and who they are as both partners and individuals. The personalities of every character were completely unique and individualized. The story itself was good and I can't really bring myself to mention any flaws in it besides following some of the usual tropes in the storyline that made it predictable at times. The animation was pretty good solely because it followed a unique art style to the fullest extent and stylized everything from the characters... See full review

SK8 the Infinity

Jun 11, 2021

This is such a sweet fun show and I really liked it a lot. The story was strong, although some of the races had holes in the logic of the placement of characters (this didn't make a huge difference because it furthered the story). The animation was great and the character designs were even better. The characters themselves fell into some typical tropes but overall maintained originality and at the very least employed multiple tropes. The interpersonal dynamics made sense and each character's identity was firmly established. There was nothing I disliked about this series and I really wasn't bored at any... See full review

Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town

Jun 10, 2021

This could have been a lot better if it was just executed properly. Lloyd (MC) is a sweet kid and he is incredibly OP. The problem with Lloyd is that he is completely oblivious and is really really dumb. He has an inferiority complex and that is about all of the depth we receive for his character. There is also the uncomfortable dynamic of a young boy being predated on by grown women and in general some fan servicey elements with young teens. Ignoring the fan service there were some incredibly big plot holes and logical flaws throughout the series. It was entertaining and funny at first and then... See full review

The Misfit of Demon King Academy

Jun 9, 2021

This is nothing special. It was all I could do to just finish watching it and I was left feeling like I had wasted my time. The characters are bland and there is only one poorly designed instance of any depth whatsoever. Bonus points for not making the entire thing hypersexualized even though there was fanservice with 15 year old girls (lost the bonus points). This started off okay but the bland main character and convoluted story made it really hard to enjoy. They tried to add plot twists that just ended up playing into the most common tropes. When the chance was offered to do something truly... See full review

The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter

Jun 3, 2021

The potential this had was completely buried under piles of full range fan service. 90% of the plot is fan service of all shapes and sizes. The plot is focused around using hedonism to gain strength and as a result there is our average weak turned OP protagonist who is worshipped by every woman he meets. There is loli, teen girls, and grown predatory women all at the service of this teenaged boy. It is gross to watch honestly. Especially the lolicon. The plot was brimming with potential and it was totally squandered by a non-stop barrage of sexuality. Why do I have such a strong focus on the sexuality?... See full review

The God of High School

Jun 3, 2021

I really enjoyed God of High School. Anyone looking for martial arts based shounen with magic/divine power could definitely enjoy this. The pacing of the story was quite rapid when compared to the manga, forcing some of the plot elements to be glossed over. Each episode was about 3-5 volumes of the manga I believe. There was a definite rush to the series which kept me engaged and watching closely. The story in the beginning poses so many questions and some plot holes (that are mostly resolved as it progresses) but this made fully enjoying it somewhat difficult. The animation style's uniqueness was likely a... See full review

Sword Art Online

May 31, 2021

TW: SA, Incest - This anime had a lot of potential and completely squandered it. The story was mediocre and didn't actualize its potential at all. To begin with the first arc was meh and poorly written but did manage to offer some character development. There was virtually no personality or individuality among the characters until the second arc and even then the horrific degradation of the plot made it even less noteworthy. Alfheim Online had even more potential than the concept of SAO and yet again it was nowhere near being actualized. To make the already weak plot worse Asuna gets SA'd multiple times to... If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord

May 31, 2021

I do not recommend anyone watch this. It is so mindless that if you do plan on watching it just use it as background noise and sit on your phone or something. This is one of the most bland anime I have seen in a while. The story started off decently and was sweet. After episode 3 or 4 I realized that the story wasn't really something that was cared about. It was kind of disappointing considering the strong premise it had. I kept watching solely out of hope it would turn around but it truly abandoned any effort in making a plot, developing characters, or world-building. Just a long string of... See full review

Ascendance of a Bookworm OVA

May 31, 2021

The mini-arcs between seasons one and two are a perfect way to take a break from Myne's perpetual bed rest. It shows the characters in a more relaxed state and shows more of who they are and what they do outside of the main plot. This was a step up from what was offered in season one and made it really enjoyable

Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 2

May 31, 2021

This season of Ascendance of a Bookworm took all of my issues with the first season and completely rectified them. This season is a rare instance in which there isn't a degradation in its quality, instead offering vast improvements. The plot became far less tedious and was so engaging to watch I unintentionally binged the OVA and all twelve episodes. The characters grew and developed wonderfully, the story was more interesting and left many questions answered while creating new inquiries. Main's true nature got to be shown a lot more and allowed viewers to appreciate her even more. This season far surpassed... See full review

Ascendance of a Bookworm

May 30, 2021

This is an interesting show but I have mixed feelings about it. The plot that makes it hard to relax and enjoy at times, along with the fact that some of the plot developments were questionable. The story itself is good, both lighthearted and all too real (It is quite dark and sad at times). The reincarnation of a grown woman who loves books into a sickly five year old's body in a land without books is interesting. It poses unique challenges she cannot overcome easily (money, class, resources, mobility, literacy, etc.). That all makes her struggle to be surrounded by books even more... See full review

Haikyuu!! Second Season

May 29, 2021

I like Haikyuu!! a lot but my only real issue with it is something prevelant in virtually all of the sports anime I have watched. Nothing really surprises me. There are drawn out ties/deuces, narrow defeats and victories, etc. Haikyuu definitely makes up for this through occasional surprises and curveballs, alongside the characters' practices and development both as a team and as individuals. Overall it is a fun watch if you are looking for something pretty easy and carefree or if you just like volleyball.

Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun

May 29, 2021

I really liked this! Most of the characters were likable and had distinct personalities. Is it something worth watching if you are looking for a serious anime that you can analyze and watch characters develop? Not at all. There is some character development but it isn't really more than moderate changes relevant to the plot and overcoming obstacles. This is just a good comfort anime that anyone looking to unwind and laugh can enjoy. Through the beginning it was cute, sweet and fun to watch. I was praying it wouldn't sexualize the schoolgirls but my prayers were answered and it just became a... See full review

A Child's Metaphysics

May 26, 2021

I loved watching this! Although the animation may seem sloppy or poorly done, I feel it was an intentional addition to the quality and meaning of the work (odd childlike animation in a showing of odd children seems sensible to me). For viewers seeking a storyline or an in depth analysis you might not not find what you are looking for. For viewers seeking a work of art and the enjoyment of an artists creativity at work, this is certainly for you.  The unsettling but childlike music engrossed me in what I was watching as it perfectly tied into both the animation and the content. The Promised Neverland

May 12, 2021

The Promised Neverland Season One was really good. It was well-paced and maintained my interest making it very easy to binge watch. It felt a bit drawn out at times in the middle but the character development and ending made it worth it. The characters all had their own distinct personalities and philosophies with incredible depth considering they were almost all under the age of 12. The soundtrack tied into the series well. I highly recommend this show to anyone looking for a psychological thriller type of series series to watch. The 3d animation style is off-putting to some people but... See full review
