You're right, in the anime Gantz I really don't like him, but in the manga Kurono is a lot more interesting. They just made some stuff up for the anime. I'm a slow reader, which is why I never really tried reading manga untill a few years back when I borrowed Battle Angel Alita from a friend. After that, Kodomo no Jikan was the second manga I started to read just last year, because the anime just stopped.The manga is just so much more detailed and... Well, just better.For the manga's I've read so far, it would have been so much better if they followed the manga more closely and quit making stuff up. School days is another such example, haven't read it entirely, but just the end is already completely different.

Can't say, since I've never seen Gantz ;) But if you really like that show, just check the recommendations on the Gantz page.
