DOGEZA: I Tried Asking While Kowtowing. Isekai-hen

Jan 30, 2021

I have never heard of Dogeza de Tanondemita. This was my introduction. I can't help but feel I am missing some vital context.

Goblin Slayer: Goblin's Crown

Nov 11, 2020

If you're new to Goblin Slayer, please watch the anime first. This movie will give you the wrong impression. First 20 minutes are just a recap of the series, and a poor one at that. A new viewer just seeing the movie will likely be confused by and misinterpret some of the scenes given the severe lack of context. They'd have been better off coming up with new animations rather than just clumping together scenes from the anime. Fanmade AMVs do better than the studio did here. The writing was barely passible. It really just feels like the studio threw something together in a hurry to capitilize on the... See full review

Brand New Animal

May 15, 2020

The overall story seems disjointed. It almost seems like they wrote it as they went along rather than having planned out the plot in advance. That being said, nearly every single episode is satisfying in some way. It delivers on action, excitement, drama, and even mystery to a small degree. While the artwork is lo-fi, don't think the artists were slacking. It was certainly a choice that serves to immerse the audience in this world. The animation is top-notch. It's definitely been influenced by western cartoons which contributes to this show's unique visual personality. The characters actually have depth... See full review

Pokemon Movie 22: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution

Mar 29, 2020

Keep in mind that this is a review of the English dub. This film lacks any emotional impact and just barely appeals to nostalgia. The human character models border on the uncanny valley, their teeth being particularly disturbing. The script is absolutely abysmal and feels like it was composed by a part-time intern with zero previous writing experience. None of the characters have any depth with the possible exception of Mewtwo. Even still, it's only skin deep. The music is nothing to write home about either unless you'd be fond of a bastardized version of the original opening theme during the introduction... See full review

Astra Lost in Space

Sep 21, 2019

Beautiful artwork, great soundtrack, and deeply touching character backstories and relations. An excellent balance of comedy, drama, and excitement. It never gets boring. The conspiracy bit seems like it's shoehorned in to add extra motivation for the crew to return home and while it feels entirely unnecessary throughout most of the story, ultimately serves that purpose. I think that it could have been handled better, though. I recommend this to anyone even if you aren't into the whole space exploration thing. That's just the setting for this anime that has so much more to offer in every other regard. The... See full review

Demon Lord, Retry!

Sep 11, 2019

I initially avoided this one due to perceiving it as just another generic harem. Boy, was I wrong. The relationship between Hakuto and Aku is wholesome. Like a father and daughter. And while there are quite of bit of bath scenes, the figures of the characters are unexpectedly not emphasized. Pretty much every instance of sexualization is done to comedic effect. This was actually my entire reason for writing this review. I wouldn't want anyone to miss this gem because of false impressions. The story is nothing new. A guy gets pulled into a game that he's used to playing and due to his previous experience... See full review
