Hak x Yona
Hak is my all time favorite hero! He's just that perfectly imperfect guy that loves the one who stole his heart with everything he is even if she would never feel the same for him. He's secure in who he is even if he's insecure when it comes to his own worth in matters of the heart.
Yona was this spoiled naive princess who was dealt a really harsh dose of reality and although she sunk into a short depression, she pulled herself out of it and came out with a determination to be strong and to do better for her people, even if they didn't know who she was. She grew as a person, and character and started to take notice of what's been in front of her and protected her all along... Hak.
The two of them are perfect for each other and it's obvious to everyone around them. It's definitely my favorite romance to date!
*Warning: this is a Yaoi anime! So it's not to everyone's taste...*
Takano x Onodera
Now this series has three (or rather four) different couples, but the best of them is definitely Takano and Onodera who were each others first love. Due to a misunderstanding in the past it led to a huge rift between the two and a massive change in personality on both their parts. Where Ondera was the persuer in the first part of their relationship, now he is determined to never let anyone get that close to him again. To never allow himself to get hurt again like he did so many years before. However, once Takano learns of the misunderstanding he becomes determined to win Onodera over once more and the chemistry between them is undeniable and explosive. Even if Onodera's tsundere nature can get a tad bit irritating at times.
*Warning this series is shounen-ai, so it's not for everyone's taste*
Katsuki Yuri x Viktor Nikiforov
As a child Yuri became enamored with the highly decorated figure skater Viktor Nikiforov and used to skate his programs for fun. After he becomes a professional figure skater himself and then tanks a major competition by coming in last place he skates Viktor's gold metal winning program to relax, not realizing he was being taped. His performance was posted online where Viktor see's it and shows up at Yuri's family home out of the blue declaring that he was going to coach Yuri.
And so begins the fabulous journey and complicated relationship of Yuri and Viktor as they not only grow closer as coach and skater but... something far deeper.
Nike x Livi
The Sun King conquered the world in three years. He offers the Principality of Rain a peace treaty if he is offered one of the four Princesses of Rain as his bride. Nike and her sister decide through a game of chance in which Nike loses. Rumor has reached the King that the royal family of Rain can make it rain which is the reason he offered such a treaty. However, when Nike shows up she isn't at all what he expected. Nor was she expecting to find the King to still be a child (he's actually 15, but looks about 12 and it never states his age in the anime, even if it does in the manga).
Livi is very arrogant, but he is a hard worker and he does have a softer side even if it's not seen often. However, he's also easily jealous and easy to anger. Nike is mouthy, brash, independent, and incredibly kind. She's too damn stubborn to give up on Livi and so makes it her goal to figure him out. And thus, begins their very hilarious journey into falling in love with someone they least expected to fall for.
Lucy x Hasebe
Lucy has become a civil servant in order to uncover the irresponsible person who allowed her parents to give her over a dozen names simply because they couldn't settle on a single one. She is determined to uncover this person and give them a piece of her mind. She works hard, and tries not to stick out too much, all while doing her job to the best of her ability. She's so focused on her goal that she refuses to date until she can put her goal to rest.
Hasebe is flirtatious and lazy. He's constantly putting off his work and sneaking off to take naps on company time. Yet, he finds himself drawn to the hardworking Lucy and so decides to persue her on a whim. Only to be shot down. Which only peaks his interest in her even more.
I absolutely love the chemistry between Lucy and Hasebe and how sneaky and manipulative he gets to get his way. The lazy guy ends up working his ass off to win the girl he originially only had a passing interest in, but ends up falling for. It's a ton of fun to watch!
*Warning: this series is Yaoi so it is definitely not for everyone*
Usami x Misaki
So, just like Sekaiichi, this series has multiple couples, but my favorite is Usami and Misaki and their very complicated relationship. It doesn't start off as a romance, but it quickly evolves into one, despite Misaki's slightly annoying tsundere tendencies, it's very obvious he feels very deeply for 'Usagi-san' and that despite himself he falls hard for him.
Usami hasn't had the best of luck in love. He's always kept himself slightly distant from everyone else and the only one he'd ever let close to him was Misaki's brother who he'd fallen in love with. When Misaki's brother gets married and Misaki comes to live with Usami while he goes to college their relationship really kicks off and Usami quickly finds himself falling deeply for Misaki.
Of course, with a ten year age difference between them, and them both being men, there are a lot of obsticles along the way. But as long as they have each other to lean on they can pull through.
Chihaya x Taichi
Taichi has been in love with Chihaya since they were kids. And if anything his feelings have only grown, despite him trying to date other girls to distract himself because Chihaya has her eyes focused on one thing and one thing only. Karuta.
Chihaya's passion for the game and her determination and pigheadedness convince Taichi to join in playing Karuta once more. And eventually, he simply gives up trying to hide from his feelings. Chihaya is oblivious anyway.
Taichi decides he's going to make the goal to become the Master to Chihaya's Queen. If he can accomplish his goal, maybe he stands a chance of finally winning her heart. Unless Chihaya finally opens her eyes and realizes what's been in front of her all along...
Usui x Misaki
Misaki is known as the demon class president of her high school. She's also known to be a rampant man-hater.
Usui is the most popular boy in school. He's constantly getting confessions and breaking the hearts of all the girls when he callously turns them down.
One day Usui stumbles upon Misaki's secret... she works in a maid cafe. He's fascinated by this turn of events and though it starts off as a way to irritate her, the more he learns of her, the more he's drawn to her.
Misaki, herself, is finding that Usui is nothing like she thought he was and despite her distrust of men in general after her father abandoned her family, she finds herself drawn to Usui.
Zen x Shirayuki
Shirayuki has dreams of being a pharmacist. However, her dreams are nearly cut short when the prince of her homeland decides he wants to make her his concubine. So she flee's the kingdom. In doing so she runs into a young man who winds up being the second prince of a neighboring kingdom who offers her a place in the pharmacist program in the castle.
What starts off as a friendship quickly develops into something far deeper for both Shirayuki and Prince Zen. But with Zen being a Prince can a romance between them even bloom?
Takeo x Yamato
Takeo is large and scary looking, but he is kind and has a heart of gold. Something his best and childhood friend Sunakawa is very well aware of. When a beautiful girl Yamato suddenly starts giving him attention, Takeo is convinced that she is interested in his friend Sunakawa, just as all the girls before have been.
Yamato was being harassed on the train one day when she was saved by her knight in shining armor... Takeo. As she tries to make her interest in him apparent he keeps pushing her toward his friend instead. How long will it take for Takeo to realize that she's in love with him, and not his friend?
Kotoko x Irie
Kotoko has been in love with Irie for what feels like forever. She once gave him a love letter that he refused to accept because he didn't date 'stupid' girls. Irie was one of the most intelligent in their school while Kotoko was near the bottom in academics. But one day everything changes and Kotoko and Irie are forced to live under the same roof.
Irie is very tsundere and it can be extremely off putting. However, I fell in love with this series. I love that it shows progression in their relationship where other anime tend to not. You see their lives as they change over a period of years rather than weeks or months.
And, honestly, once you're able to look past Irie's prickliness you come to understand that Kotoko is his weakness. She slides right past his tsundereness and worms her way into his heart. It's one of my favorites to re-watch!
Nanami x Tomoe
Tomoe is a familiar to a local god and is incensed when he learns that the one he served passed his power on (even if temporarily) to a human girl. Eventually that resentment changes when he see's how hard Nanami works to do right by her reponsibilities not only to the shrine, but to her followers. She quickly gains his grudging respect.
Nanami, at first, doesn't like the grumpy Kitsune Youkai, but eventually as she gets to know him she falls for him. But she learns that things with Tomoe are not so easy as he is still recovering from the death of the human that he once loved so many years before.
Will Tomoe allow himself to love another human or will he keep Nanami at arms length?
Takagi x Miyoshi
Technically there are several romances in this series, but the one I love the most is the relationship between Takagi and Miyoshi. She's so damn supportive of them and is really there for them from the very beginning. She helps them with research, she gets them food, she cleans, she helps with their manuscripts, she cries with them when bad shit happens, and rejoices with them when the good happens. She's one of Takagi's pillars of strength, honestly. I really love that he realizes just how much she does for them and how supportive she is and just how amazing a person she is. I love how they tease each other and the little glimpses you get as their relationship evolves over time. It's a very sweet and deep relationship and I adore the hell out of it!
*Warning: this series is shounen-ai, so it doesn't suit everyone's taste*
Luka x Yuki
Despite the fact that I also really love the pairing of Shusei x Hotsuma, I love the pairing of Luka and Yuki just slightly more.
Luka is a demon who has been in love with Yuki for several lifetimes. He meets her, loves her, protects her, and then loses her. Every. Time. It haunts him. Until the day comes when Yuki is reincarnated once more and for the first time is born male. And yet, Luka still loves Yuki, despite the fact that he's male. It's very obvious. And Yuki finds himself drawn to Luka.
Will this lifetime be any different? Will Luka love Yuki once more, only to lose him again?
*Warning: this series is Yaoi so it is definitely not for everyone*
Izumi x Ryoma
Ryoma has been in love with a girl he was in a commercial with ten years before. When he's offered to do a ten year anniversary commercial he accepts on the condition that the same cast play the same parts. And when he see's her again he's amazed at just how beautiful she's become. That is, until he finds out that she is actually a he.
After a major freak out Ryoma realizes that despite himself he's still attracted to Izumi. A male. So he sets out to woo his love.
Izumi, on the other hand, is having a major melt down that he's finding himself not only receptive to Ryoma's advances, but that he's attracted to him at all.
But Ryoma isn't willing to give up. He's waited ten years to be with the one he loves and he's determined to win Izumi as his own.
Kyoko x Ren
After having her heart shattered by her childhood friend and love Kyoko declares revenge on Sho by beating him at his own game. She'll become more famous then him. Along her journey she meets Sho's biggest threat, his self-proclaimed rival and enemy Tsuruga Ren.
In the beginning Ren and Kyoko are like oil and water and simply cannot get along, but somewhere along the way Ren see's Kyoko's potential and they grow closer. Ren finds himself falling for Kyoko, but can Kyoko get over her heartbreak and allow herself to love once more?
Sailor Moon (Usagi/Serena) x Tuxedo Mask (Mamoru/Darien)
My very first introduction into anime romance was the romance between Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon. This was my childhood. I absolutely loved them as a couple and, even to this day, they still remain one of my all time favorites!
Haruhi x Tamaki
Because this series is a reverse harem series you do get to see the potential for many different pairs with Haruhi, but the epitome of all the pairs is Tamaki. Haruhi and Tamaki just have that chemistry that make them the perfect couple, and they play off each other so well!
Ririchiyo x Soushi
Ririchiyo is a tsundere youkai who moves into an apartment complex full of other youkai. Some of these youkai are required to have bodyguards and Ririchiyo happens to be one of the unlucky ones (in her opinion). Her bodyguard is the deliciously adorable Miketsukami Soushi who frequently flashes his adorable two tone eyes in puppy dog manner when she spurns his advances as her bodyguard.
However, somewhere along the way Ririchiyo finds herself getting to know more about Soushi, and the more she learns the more drawn to him she is...
Sawako x Kazehaya
Due to her unfortunate resemblence to Sadako from 'The Ring' many people either fear her or give her a wide berth. Except, of course, Kazehaya, one of the most popular boys in her school. As the pair spend more time together they begin to develop feelings for one another. However, with her insecurities will she ever be able to break out of her shell enough to not only fess up to her own feelings, but realize his own?
