takt op.Destiny

Nov 23, 2021

takt op.Destiny definitely feels like the underdog of the season, which is odd since it's produced by MAPPA, one of the biggest studios right now. That said, it isn't perfect, but whar it lacks in plot it makes up for in spades with gorgeous animation and sound design.

First off, the story seems to be heading to a fairly straightfoward conclusion, with Takt getting to play his piece and probably joining the ranks and becoming an official Conductor. It's nothing terribly exciting, but moments such as the duet or fight with Hell keep you more engaged than bored.

The animation is stellar, and the fight scenes in particular are fluid and visually striking. The music seems to be mostly existing classical music, with an original score not really being present, save for the OP and ending songs. The sound design, particularly in battles, stands out as these sounds from these weird and wacky weapons only elevate the fights that much more.

Finally, the characters, where I feel there is more to talk about. Takt himself is a good protagonist, having solid motivations and has a very dry sense of humour and wit. Cosette/Destiny is the poster child and she is excellent, gradually shifting from an emotionless robot to someone trying to understand why people around her do the things they do. The not-so-secret villain is kinda bad, but he isn't the main focus, and the most recent episode (Episode 8) seems to confirm that. This would be a 9 or even a 10 if the story was ironed out, and not presented in such a confusing way.

Overall, takt op.Destiny is very much worth your time, with a story that will hopefully narrow down to what it's trying to reach, but has gorgeous animation and sound, with a mostly well-rounded cast.

7/10 story
10/10 animation
9/10 sound
8/10 characters
8.5/10 overall
