To Your Eternity

Aug 30, 2021

For the first 13 episodes, pretty much everyone was in agreement that To Your Eternity was a masterpiece. However, the island arc left quite a lot of viewers divided due to some characters as well as the payoff of that arc.

For me, while the island arc could never live up to the one before, it was not nearly enough to drag the show down. Fushi is an excellent protagonist, and Hayase becoming one of the most hateable villains next to the guy from FMA: Brotherhood. The side characters varied in quality a bit, with Gugu, Parona, March and Rean being excellent while the rest ranged from great to just kinda there.

The animation did dip a bit in the island arc, but due to some behind-the-scenes drama it was understandable. The fight scenes superb, the shots and visuals gorgeous, it just comes together perfectly. So why the 9? Well, it felt as if the island arc went on too long and made me a bit less interested in the show. I was no longer ecstatic for the episodes like I was in the first half, but by no means was I bored while viewing, at any point. I feel as if the resolution in the second to last episode was a bit underwhelming, which is probably what would bump the score down.

Overall, a perfect start and an excellent finish that trips in places, but never for too long. Bring on season 2!
