Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen

Mar 1, 2018

I waited for this anime for so long, this was the very first one I watched from beginning to end during my childhood so it holds a special place in my heart. This review had been updated as the anime progressed; however, with the season coming to an end I can finally finalize this review. A spoiler alert is in order.  Story I was expecting this anime/manga to go in one of two directions. The first one would be to start Sakura in a new challenge with all of our favorite characters plus new ones as either a teen or young adult since it has been 20 years since the original release of... Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Prologue - Sakura and the Two Bears

Oct 28, 2017

Wonderful way to get us fans excited for what is to come next year! Story The story line is just as described in the summary, this is essentially the last few episodes of the animation where Syaron confesses his feelings to Sakura before leaving Japan. The difference here is that this OVA stays true to the manga, recaps what happened since the beginning of the story and prepares the audience for what is to come as foreseen in the very last scene which is the very first chapter of the new manga. I don’t believe the plot is different and neither was I expecting it to be. I felt the OVA was well done... See full review

March Comes in like a Lion

May 23, 2017

I loved this anime very much. Sangatsu no Lion exceeded my expectations in so many ways that it now a top favorite. Story I actually put off watching this anime because the summary of it did not caught my eye. Seeing how the rating was so good in this site I gave it a chance and I was amazingly surprised with what I saw. I would definitely state the story is quite original in some ways. While anime illustrating board games or sports is not uncommon, the added features such as the strong character of Rei and the good nature role of the three sisters make for a very good story. This anime is all about... See full review

A Silent Voice

May 18, 2017

Finally… the long awaited movie is out for all of us to enjoy! Here is a short review with my overall impressions. This is a spoiler-free review. Please bear in mind I read the manga, so some comparisons are made here as well. Story As society is shedding some light into the topic of bullying which is ever present, it comes as no surprise that the plot was very relatable to the audience as well as relevant. Shoko is a deaf girl who ends up being bullied at a young age, and her biggest bully (Shoya) ends up being bullied after things get out of control. The plot is rather original as it... Blast of Tempest

Mar 1, 2017

This anime is without a doubt a hidden gem. I am not sure how popular it got when it was originally released but having just watched it I was blown away by it! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. This review is spoiler-free. Story The plot is very well described as in the summary for this page. At first glance as with the first episode, the plot is quite confusing. There is some magic, a girl on an island, and some teens with a weird relationship/friendship. You have to stick to the first few episodes to start grasping the plot. I personally found the story quite original and to be very well... See full review

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club

Jan 22, 2017

I do not think this anime was entertaining. Although the animation was great, the plot fell short in my opinion. Granted the “sports” theme is not my cup of tea, I decided to write this spoiler-free review to share my overall opinion for Free! Story The story revolves around a group of guys who participated in a swimming club when they were children. They meet again during their high school years and decide to reform a swimming club and compete. The plot is simple so unless they added some sort of unique factor it was unlikely to be entertaining and this is exactly what happened... See full review

Engaged to the Unidentified OVA

Dec 28, 2016

In case you are wondering like me what this OVA is about before watching it (granted the summary provided is not descriptive at all), I have written the following information: There are 2 episodes/OVAs (not 1 as stated in this website) The first episode is about the gang winning a trip to a hot springs. They decide to go to one themed with the infamous UMA topic. No real story line, this was definitely just an extra episode/filling. The second episode is about Kobeni remembering when she was younger with her sister and her friend. By the same token, we see a short story regarding Mashiro when she was... See full review

Kiss Him, Not Me

Dec 24, 2016

This review has a few spoilers (nothing major) but nothing regarding the ending (if that helps any). Read at your own risk. Story Kiss Him Not Me is a refreshing and well done reverse harem. As the summary of the anime states, a not so pretty high school girl gets depressed over something that happens in her otaku world and loses a lot of weight revealing a very pretty girl that everyone wants to date. So far, the premise is simplistic at best but what makes this anime so interesting is the added components. What I liked best is the way the story started because we see Kae be herself and interact with... See full review

Rurouni Kenshin

Dec 18, 2016

Rurouni Kenshin is one of my very favorites animes of all time.  Although it has been many years since I re-watched this series, I now finally felt like I was ready to write this review which was long overdue. This is a spoiler-free review. Story Rurouni Kenshin tells the story of Kenshin who used to be an assassin during war times and now is wanting to live a normal life and keep a low profile.  The story begins with him meeting the young and feisty Kaoru who is very selfless and willing to help anyone. Kaoru gives Kenshin a place to stay upon learning he is a wanderer and together then... See full review

The Case of Hana & Alice

Dec 5, 2016

Story Hana to Alice is the story of a girl by the name of Tetsuko Arisugawa who has moved to a new city with her mother as a result of her parents’ divorce. From the beginning we learn that Testuko is closely watched by a neighbor whose identity is not quite clear. In attending her new school we learn that there is some mystery surrounding a former student as the class believes that a murder took place in the school and that his spirit is somehow still lingering in the “real” world. Testuko ends up investigating the mystery with the help of the mysterious neighbor of hers. The story plot... See full review

xxxHOLiC Rou

Oct 9, 2016

It took some time for me to finally decide to watch xxxHolic. I have liked CLAMP stories for the most part and my interest sparked somewhat with Tsuabasa which includes some of this animation. Anyway, I just finished watching all seasons and OVAs so I decided to offer a review for the overall franchise. Read at your own risk! Story The plot is very intriguing and unique. Although it is not uncommon to see anime where the protagonist is able to see the supernatural, CLAMP was able to develop a very nice story line with the spiritual topic as it relates to the main character’s “gift” to... Servant x Service

Sep 18, 2016

Servant X Service was very entertaining to watch. I laughed a lot every single episode and enjoyed the plot, the characters and the vibe. This is a brief spoiler-free review. Story The tags “comedy”, “slice of life”, and “work life” are right on point. This anime follows a group of individuals who have recently been employed as government workers. Every one of them has a different personality, background and view of life. The story does not have any depth, it is purely to give the audience a good laugh. The anime is not only funny but it is somewhat relatable for... See full review

Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World

Sep 18, 2016

I am torn between either loving it or hating it. Overall the anime is slightly above average. This is a spoiler-free review. Story The premise is original in the sense that we get to see the story develop from a “realistic” point of view. What I mean by this is that people are bound to make mistakes and we never really see this in a story. We always see the protagonist making the right decisions and then a happy ending…. I believe the fact that the story changes constantly and shows the mistakes of the protagonist is a very good quality in the plot. As much as hate cliffhangers... See full review

Sep 10, 2016

What a beautiful story line with amazing cinematography! Having just finished watching this amazing movie, I felt compelled to write this review to shed some light in this masterpiece. Story Kimi no Na wa is an amazing movie following the lives of two teens that somehow have a connection. The reason/purpose of this connection is (as you guessed it) not initially clear, but as the story goes on we are not only left with a deep understanding of the reasoning per se, but also with an appreciation for the spiritual/fated sense of life. Confusing statement? Make sure you give this movie a chance so you can... See full review

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

Aug 7, 2016

I would like to start by saying that the summary given for this anime does not truly reflect (in my humble opinion) the essence of the story. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is the story of two apprentices of rakugo story telling that spans from their childhood to when they become adults and beyond. The story follows these two as they pursue becoming professionals in rakugo while going through life and the hardships that such journey conveys. I was pleased with the story but a bit torn with my impressions. This review is spoiler-free. Story I found the plot to be quite original. There is nothing in the... See full review

The Asterisk War (2016)

Jul 18, 2016

Gakusen Toshi Asterisk was a waste of time. I do not recommend it to anyone as it had several obvious flaws in the plot that really messed up the anime as a whole. This is a spoiler-free review based on the first and second seasons. Story The plot is not necessarily original. This is the typical story set in a different type of world/future where schools fight for prizes and honor or so speak. Special swords/guns are used by students in duels and tournaments. The fact that the story could go in various directions despite the not so original plot could be a plus, but since the execution was very... See full review

PSYCHO-PASS

Jul 10, 2016

Psycho-Pass is an amazing anime with a very intricate story. In a restructured society set in the future where a system has been developed to avoid criminal activity. We see what in theory could be desirable for a safe society and also the potential negative effects of such system. The story will make you rethink your beliefs over and over again in a way that an obvious evil is not quite as evident as it would be expected. This review is spoiler-free. Nura: Rise of the Youkai Clan - Demon Capital

This is a review for the two seasons of Nurarihyon no Mago. Having just finished the two seasons I felt compelled to write a review about my impressions. This review does not contain any spoilers but there is information that is suggestive of the plot. Story I want to start off by saying that this anime reminded me highly of Inuyasha. The feeling to it is very similar but with a focus in modern times more so that feudal era Japan. The first season was a nice introduction to the Nura Clan in modern times and the world of demons. From the New World

Jul 3, 2016

I truly believe Shin Sekai Yori is one of the best animes I have ever had the pleasure of watching. From the very beginning to the end, you will be consumed by the depth of this story and will not be able to stop yourself from watching it. This is a spoiler-free review. Story The story centers around a very different world well into the future where humans gained psychic powers but managed to control some of the “flaws” that such powers convey in order to ensure peace between mankind. By this time, many wars and catastrophes have taken place, so humans have strict rules to preserve... See full review

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

Jun 27, 2016

I was not expecting to like this anime as much as I did. Considering I have watched a lot of high school-type anime, I was hoping for something new and this one did not disappoint.  This review is based on the first season only and is spoiler-free. Story It’s hard to bring some “freshness” into the typical high school setting as nowadays it’s very much repetitive and lacks a good story line. This one actually questions cliques in such a fun way that it will be impossible not to like it. This story centers around the Service Club which is meant to help others and it is... See full review

Natsuyuki Rendezvous

May 8, 2016

Natsuyuki Rendezvous was a very enjoyable anime for me. There is not enough josei out there so it was nice to find this gem. Story The story follows Hazuki as he falls in love with a widow by the name of Rokka who owns a flower shop. He starts working as a part-timer there and tries to win her over but the spirit of Rokka’s dead husband lingers arounds and tries to scare off any potential suitors of his wife. This is a romantic story with a nice pace to it. There is also some comedy and of course supernatural themes as well. I understand that the story at a glance is not very original or complex... May 6, 2016

White Album was a huge disappointment. There were no good points to either the story or the characters which is probably the reason why this anime is ranked so poorly. My advice is for you to not watch it, it’s not worth it. Perhaps you will save yourself from wasting time like I did.  Story The plot surrounds the story of Touya, a college students who is very independent and works various jobs to make ends meet. His girlfriend is a rising idol and she gains popularity their relationship starts to suffer due to them not finding time for one another among other things. So far so good, the... See full review

Sword Art Online II

May 4, 2016

I had high expectations for the second season because I really enjoyed the first one. I am sad to admit that this season fell short in my book. Story There are three arcs covered in the second season. The first one relates to a gun game that becomes popular and the appearance of a character who claims he is able to kill people in real life through the game. Out of the three arcs, this one was the best one in my opinion. It had a lot of action and had a nice story going for it. The downside however is that the ending of it came out of nowhere. I mean, the story development failed to give a credible reason... See full review

Sword Art Online

May 2, 2016

What a wonderful anime! I was needing to watch something different that could keep me on my toes and this one did the trick so easily! This review is spoiler-free so there are no references that will give away the plot. Story SAO’S story follows the quest of Kirito along with many other characters in mastering a MMORPG they get trapped in so that they can gain their freedom back into the real world. The journey is not easy and is full of adventures, tender moments, and many unique characters. While the “adventure” part was most prominent, there was some romance that balanced the... I absolutely fell in love with this anime! I was hesitant to watch it at first because it was a bit long but I am glad I gave it a chance. Story Two very opposite characters who happen to share the same name meet in their new journeys on their way to Tokyo (both for very different reasons). Only Yesterday

Apr 23, 2016

Only Yesterday was surprisingly a very good movie to watch. The story follows Taeko in her journey to the countryside which she loves and along the way, she remembers many memories of her childhood that put in perspective who she really is. I found the story to be very original, insightful, and interesting. I think that when you reach a certain age, you start pondering about who you are and the past as it shaped you at present. I am nearly 26 year old and memories of my childhood have come to by mind quite often. At this time of your life, real life happens and then you wonder if you could be happy doing... See full review

Having just finished watching this movie, I had to stop for a second and ponder whether I was happy/sad or satisfied/unsatisfied with it.  I am really thorn about writing this review simply because it left me with a mix of emotions. The story follows Anna, who is unhappy with her life and is sent to live with other relatives for the summer due to an illness among other things. The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior

Apr 17, 2016

The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior was a fun and entertaining anime to watch. It resembled The Pet Girl of Sakurasou anime quite a bit but in my opinion, this one was done better than the other one. The story follows Usa, a normal high schooler who is to live in a boarding home with very “unique” tenants. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

Apr 10, 2016

Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon follows the story of Bell Cranel's journey in becoming stronger and being a hero. This takes place in the fictitious land of Orario, where inhabitants are divided by families of Gods. I want to start by saying that the English title of this anime is deceiving and that the description offered on this website was not accurate in my opinion. I think the tag “harem” should have been used as we see many girls fighting for the attention of the main character. The title is deceiving because Bell does not seem to have interest in “picking up girls&rdquo... See full review

My Love Story!!

Apr 9, 2016

This review is based on the first 10 episodes only. I think this anime can be described with the following words: “giggles”, “cuteness”, and “bromance”. At first glance, the plot of this anime is very genetic, but it is perhaps the puredenes of heart of the characters that make you feel happy about watching it. This is all good until like me, you continue to watch and realize the story lacks purpose. At that point, it becomes repetitive and makes the audience lose interest. This is what I experienced watching it and why I decided to drop it when I did. I actually read a... See full review
