Castlevania: Nocturne

Nov 18, 2023

I was looking forward to this season but I had to stop after only a couple of episodes. The reason is simple: The story is basic. The "theme", if you want to call it that, is "Aristocrats and nobility are vampires" which, if you've read a single page out of any book or piece of media indicting the wealthy ever, is a very trite and literal interpretation of the widely held belief that the rich are bloodsucking leeches that prey upon the common folk. I have seen this schtick done a thousand times. It is very much a true statement, don't misunderstand me, but the monstrous nature... See full review

Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Apr 8, 2019

Hunter x Hunter is one of those series that has a very devoted cult following as a shonen manga with all the battles, colorful characters, whimsy, and surprising darkness in its story. Masashi Kishimoto, the author of Naruto, has gone on record to say that Hunter x Hunter was one of his inspirations (I'll get more to that later), and the series itself is one of those titles that embodies shonen fare while also sidestepping or circumventing some cliches. Note that I say some. This review will basically be just a rough overview of my opinions on the series based on the overarcing elements it possesses, what... See full review

Shigurui: Death Frenzy

Jul 3, 2017

If you're into unlikable characters, ultraviolence, tons of symbolic imagery, and enjoy the journey rather than the destination, then this may be an anime for you. Story: Set in early 17th century Japan known as the Edo period, the story begins with a match organized by the depraved, sociopathic daimyo Tokugawa Tadanaga to be held between two expert swordsmen named Gennosuke Fujiki and Seigen Hirako. What makes this match interesting is that Tadanaga has ordered them to use real swords instead of wooden ones, infinitely increasing the danger. Not only that, but Fujiki possesses only one arm and Seigen... See full review

Peach Girl

Jan 8, 2017

I'm honestly unsure if people have something against this anime and are biased against it, or if they've had strokes, because all of the negative reviews for this anime seem to miss the point--whether by choice or, again, by medical malady... Story: 7/10 Momo Adachi is a put-together, responsible, athletic high schooler with bleached hair and dark skin due to all of the sun she got as a lifeguard. She's not the most popular girl in her class, so her only sort-of ally is a frenemy named Sae. Momo is self-conscious about her skin because she was told that her crush since junior high doesn't like girls... See full review

Berserk (2016)

Oct 26, 2016

Being a huge fan of Berserk, the announcement of a much-desired continued adaptation of the anime beyond that of the original series and the recent trilogy of films which covered the same content made me very excited. Unfortunately, initial viewing of the first episode proved disappointing upon the realization that the animators decided to use CGI animation instead of the much more conventional--and objectively more aesthetic--animation style. The reasons for this choice may be worth considering, but for those of us that simply wished for the CGI action scenes in the recent films to be brought... See full review

Diabolik Lovers

Jul 26, 2016

Do you like animes where your female lead is constantly bullied, harassed, and put into "sexy" compromising positions that would actually be sexy if they had even a drop of consent, but don't and therefore aren't? Do you like a reverse harem where you have the choice of: An asshole; An asshole with a hat; An asshole with glasses; A lazy asshole; A childish, bratty asshole; or the eldest asshole? Or! Do you like to watch anime that attempt to hit a certain niche but fail so miserably that you can't help but shake your head and laugh at how hilariously bad it is? If you've... See full review

Cross Ange: Rondo of Angels and Dragons

Jan 17, 2016

This is certainly not the worst anime in existence, nor is it the most "offensive". While it still isn't good in the strictest sense, this anime has made me--for more than half a second-- consider looking into the mecha genre. I doubt I ever will, but if an anime this subpar-to-middling is making a half-decent argument to check into a genre of anime, then there has to be something there, right?  This review has been updated and edited so many times, so shit isn't going to be that linear... Brothers Conflict

Dec 21, 2015

This'll be a WIP review, because I want to break down every brother in this series, and since there are 13 of them...I'll be using the Brothers Conflict wiki to help flesh out my analysis of this anime. It is not the worst otome I've ever watched. No, that award goes to Diabolik Lovers, which somehow managed to make even flatter characters with fewer boys. Hurray! Ema Hinata is an only child when her father ups and marries a woman with thirteen sons (she had like eight of them with her previous husband, from what I understand). So now she's the big/little step-sister of 13 of them! And she moves... See full review

Otona Joshi no Anime Time: Kawamo o Suberu Kaze

Dec 18, 2015

A perfect story in virtually every way. Hell, it is perfect but I don't want to seem like a blind fangirl or anything. To enjoy this anime you need to be a fan of unrequited love and realistic portrayals of it. It's a very understated story, one that does not have a happy ending, nor does it have a bad one. When I think about it, your outlook on life will be the judge as to whether or not this ended on a silently tragic note or with a silver lining. It's also very straight-forward, as most things are with a oneshot story that is also slice of life.  Noriko has returned from America and returned her... See full review

Dance with Devils

Nov 24, 2015

For what it is, this anime is not the worst addition to the reverse-harem genre. STORY: There is very little plot and little to no backstory on any of the characters except the little snippets for the female protagonist and even that is measly. Aand it ends on a cliffhanger, so if you think this anime is already middling in content, then just be aware that it doesn't even wrap itself up in 12 episodes. Shocking, am I right? CHARACTERS: Thankfully, what this anime has going for it is more than a half-decent female protagonist named Ritsuka. She's obviously not an Action Girl, which explains her... See full review

Future Diary

Aug 23, 2015

(This will not be a completely comprehensive review) This is an anime that you either love for its psychological, Battle Royale components and varied characters or one that you dismiss because it rubs you the wrong way, as it did for me originally. I read Deadman Wonderland before ever getting involved in Future Diary as a series and perhaps because an upperclassman I hated claimed this was better than DW, I brushed this series off as "Well, he totally dismissed my love for DW, so he can go fuck himself. What's so great about Future Diary anyway?" Indeed, I found quite a few parallels... See full review

Diabolik Lovers OVA

Aug 13, 2015

What..are you people seeing the same thing I am? The animation is simply average. The fact that I can see their hair through their eyes is a huge turn-off for me, and the details are pretty basic. Also, what the hell is even happening. Who the hell are those other vampires. Why the hell did the original series get dubbed? Who knows the answer to these questions!!

Watamote: No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!

Aug 12, 2015

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!, or more aptly, WataMote, is an anime that will elicit one or more of the following reactions: 1) Deep empathy ("Oh my God that is/that was so me in middle school/high school/right now")

2) Extreme discomfort and second-hand embarrassment ("This is so awkward...Oh my God what is she doing now? Oh my God, really!? Are you absolutely socially retarded?") 3) Amusement ("Pffft! She thought THAT would work! Idiot!") 4) Schadenfreude (This girl is a complete idiot. Serves her right for judging everyone around her and... See full review

Kamisama Kiss 2nd Season

Jun 9, 2015

(Sorry for this not being a comprehensive review, but I really have nothing more to say that wasn't said in my review for the first season) The cuteness and tender, loving relationship between Nanami and Tomoe continues in the most pleasant of ways in the second season. This is eclipsed by the ultra-sweet finale that makes up episode 11 and 12. Once again, Tatum in the English dub gives a phenomenal and believable not-quite-tsundere performance for Tomoe, and Brandon Potter as the newly-established semi-antagonist Kirihito/Akura-Ou provides a fairly pleasing, if somewhat monotonous rolling gravel for... Space Dandy

Jul 28, 2014

Are you ready for interstellar laughs and nonsense? Space Dandy's got you covered. I have not seen Cowboy Bebop (as I'm writing this), only an episode or two, but even I can tell that Space Dandy --as well as any other action-packed and wacky space anime--have an obligation (well not obligation, but a gesture I guess) to nod towards a series that helped propel this niche genre into the limelight as it did. Enough of that crap, let's get down to why I love Space Dandy. STORY: Space Dandy is a pompadour-wearing shameless pervert, much like Johnny Bravo on Cartoon Network days of yore, who loves hunting... See full review

Mar 17, 2014

I myself am surprised that I enjoyed this series as much as I did. Can't make any promises that I would like anything else in the same vein, but the reasons why I did like it will be discussed so here we go! STORY: Right off the bat we are greeted with an old lady narrator detailing how a high schooler named Nanami Momozono is evicted from her own house due to her father's gambling problems and consequential "disappearance". She helps a man being harrassed by a dog in the park and he gives her a map to his 'house' out of gratitude. It turns out that this house is in fact a decrepit shrine... See full review

Ringing Bell

Mar 9, 2014

Let me just get right down to it. This isn't really a review so much as my personal thoughts, so whatever. Story: A little lamb named Chirin lives with his mother in the meadows on a farm with other sheep. He is happy and full of life though a little too precocious and frisky. His mother warns him never to go beyond the fence because on a very ominous looking mountain lives the Wolf King which loves to eat lambs. Chirin doesn't really pay any mind to it until one night the sheep are attacked by the Wolf King and his mother dies. Chirin is overcome with the thought of revenge and wants to become a pupil... Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Sep 10, 2013

I abhor "Magical Girl" genres, finding the anime and manga with this staple to be full to brim with age-old cliches and overly-cutesy girly stuff that I truly am not into. That being said, if there are "adult" themes, or psychological components, then I'm in it to win it. And by win it, I mean devour it in one sitting. So is the case of this anime, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. Here's my review and my thoughts... Berserk: Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King

May 18, 2013

I absolutely LOVE Berserk and think it is one of the greatest manga series ever made, ever. I was psyched to see that they were going to take another crack at animating this series and immediately put it on my to-watch list. Here's what I found. Story: So Berserk is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY LONG. Like, holy shit. As this review is being written, there are over 300 chapters and it only just feels like we've reached maybe the half-way mark of this gory Iliad. Because of that, it would take lots and lots of time and effort to animate every single story arc and happening verbatim. Highschool of the Dead

Dec 29, 2011

Boobs, butts, and brain matter. The Three Holy B's that make up this anime. And yes, it took me around 3 hours to come up with that one-liner, thank you very much. Kidding aside... STORY:  This anime is a realistic what-if scenario, as realistic as it can be with some artistic license. What if an unknown virus or bacteria infected a single person or a small group of people so that they die and later do a dramatic 180 as they rise from the ground and prey on the living? This anime captures the horror, the fear, the paranoia, the hope, the bloodshed, and the survival instincts that we all... See full review

Hetalia: Axis Powers

Dec 25, 2010

I've seen many people who claim to love Hetalia. I was thinking "Hetalia, what the hell is that? Probably something just EVERYBODY loves for no reason (insert eye roll here)" But then I sat down and watched it. Learning that each "episode" is about 5 minutes long interested me. How could they make any progress with 5 freakin minutes? Here is my review for Hetalia: Axis Powers. The story is simply gutsy for the creators to take basically all of world history and the countries and their conflicts and make it entertaining enough for viewers not to be bored, and accurate enough where you... Junjou Romantica

Aug 25, 2010

I like reading yaoi fanfiction than yaoi manga or watching yaoi anime, but I'll give you my honest review.STORY: 5/10Honestly, was it really that neccessary to split up the "season" into 3 different stories? I mean, with my short attention span (and many kids these days becoming more easily distracted than ever before) it's hard to focus on anime nowadays because it sucks so much, but when I'm finally getting into it, it changes to another story. That ticked me off. I hate multiple stories like that, I just hate it. But to each his own. The plot was a little weak, but die-hard yaoi fangirls and... See full review

Naruto

Aug 24, 2010

I'm a big fan of this anime and the manga, but I will try to be impartial, but I'll totally fail. Story: The story is original, as far as stories about ninjas go: Naruto Uzumaki is a boy whose village was attacked by a powerful nine-tailed fox spirit around the time of his birth. In order to save the village it was decided that it was to be sealed into a human host and newborn Naruto was chosen to be that host. The people of the village never forgot the destruction that the demon caused and they directed their hatred towards him, leaving Naruto to live up isolated and alone. Despite this shitty...
