Lovely. I honestly really like disgaea, specially 1 and 2. I believe this anime is quite good as an "expansion" to the game's story. I really love the character development, the references to the game, the music, the same goofy felling that the game had, and how well they carried over the characteristics of every character, and they managed to not destroy what the game created 

It can be watched without playing the game, yes, but it loses it's charm, so I would recommend to first play at least a little bit of the game, wich is an incredible tactics jrpg game, to be able to understand just how good this adaptation is
