Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation II -Lovers-

Sep 5, 2022

Well this starts off right where the first movie ended. It's a shame that things have to be cut and some characters are reduced to barely any screen time, some things were changed a few minor items and one significant. There were some edits that were strikingly noticable if you're familar with the original series. Being a big fan of the original series, the changes did not take away enjoyment from the movie. The new animation was very detailed and looked great. There was more new animation in this movie compared to the first. It didn't clash with the older animation to me. The music was really good. The... See full review

Garaga

Jul 24, 2022

A space cargo ship crashes on an alien planet, but not all is what it seems. Part of this ship's cargo is a young woman and the crew is not all what they appear. One of the crew members seems to have a connection to a beautiful psychic charged alien being. Faction pitted against faction on this alien world. This was a nearly two hour movie and I found it dull for the most part. The animation is well done, but the story and characters weren't interesting. I forgot there was music in this movie. I watched the dub which was not good, but I've heard much worse. It's bearable to me. Honestly I could not... See full review

Rokushin Gattai God Mars Movie

Apr 26, 2020

This movie is a recap of the first 25 or so episodes of the tv series. It's a tragic story. For a 90 minute film they edited or condensed 25 episodes really well. The animation looks very good. Sound was excellent. Sound/music really set the tone and mood during the film. The characters are not well developed other than the twins.

Rokushin Gattai God Mars Juunanasai no Densetsu

Apr 25, 2020

The synopsis on the page tells the story. I have yet to watch the 1982 tv series or movie. After watching this I think will check them out. This seems like a side story to the tv series, I imagine. Basically you have two twins Marg and Mars are separated by an evil Emperor at age 1. The family is devasted. The twin Mars is sent to Earth to conquer it, this is where the tv series story takes place I imagine. This ova tells the story of the twin that stays on the planet Gishin, Marg. Marg lives through tradegy. He loses his family and love interest Lulu. This is a pretty sad story. Marg is a member of rebels... See full review

Phantom Quest Corp

Apr 24, 2020

Animation was great. Music was very good. Sound excellent. Characters not developed due to short duration of show. Only 4 episodes. Am sure many have done it but this show reminds me of Ghost Sweeper Mikami. They have many similiarities. Both are comedy/horror shows and while I think Mikami did the comedy better,  Phantom Quest Corp has overall better production value and the main character is more likeable. Ayaka is more likeable to the greedy and sometimes mean Mikami. But Mikami had better side characters compared to Phantom Corp. But than again we didn't get to know the side characters very much in... See full review

Dancougar: Requiem for Victims

Apr 24, 2020

This is my introduction to the Dancougar series. Off the bat the mechs looks good. They are bulky with much detail. Clearly this is a continuation of a previous tv or ova series. The 4 heroes that control the Dancougar mecha apparently have been on a long journey. There's a big baddie named Zorbados who summons one of his minions to battle Dancougar. The good guys arrive in a weird universe, a red dimension. Will they survive? It's a short OVA with an anticlimatic ending because it's over so fast. The music was forgettable. Sound was good. The animation is ova quality, so better than a tv series. It's... See full review

Satsujin Kippu wa Heart-iro

Aug 3, 2019

A high school aged girl named Seiko recently suspended from high school takes a trip with her cat Gonbei to Nagasaki. She travels by train and meets characters that will follow her along this story. One is a young man that resembles someone that was recently murdered. An older man that seems kind and another young mysterious man that comes off as very annoying to her. Murder follows Seiko in Nagasaki and these three figures as well. Who is the killer, what exactly is going on. The animation looked low budget, but not terrible. You could tell that there was not a big budget for this anime. I don't even... See full review

Galaxy Cyclone Braiger

Nov 25, 2018

I was not impressed with the first few episodes going in, but found myself liking the series as it went on. It's starts of episodic and concludes with a story. Galaxy Cyclone Braiger takes place in the 22nd century when man has colonized other planets in the solar system. But there is outlawness led by "connections" or synidicates that rule sectors of the galaxy. J9/Braiger is a mercenary group that will take any mission that the police will not handle. The J9 members include Issac Godonov the leader, Jotaru Kidou who is precise with a gun, Speedy Bowie who is the pilot, and Angel Omachi a bomb... See full review

Dragon Fist

Oct 5, 2018

Based of a manga of the same name, this is a one episode OVA. Our hero is named Ling and he comes from the white dragon clan. The people from this clan are born with jewels, Ling's jewel was abnormal and he was not accepted by his people. So he's sent to mingle with humans. We find him at a high school, he defends a girl from some thugs. We learn that his girl is a clone and these people are trying to take her back to their lab for experiments. He name is Fukuya by the way..or she's the clone of a girl named Fukuya. There is Naoki who is also a clone, the clone of the real Fukuya's boyfriend. Than there's... See full review

Power Dolls

Sep 20, 2018

The background to this 2 episode ova is that humans have migrated to Planet Omni because of overpopulation. Planet Omni gains it's independence after a war. D.O.L.L.S stands for Detachment of Limited Line Services which is a group of "hot" women that battle in mechs. The mech designs were good. The bad mech called a loader in the second episode reminded me of a large tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell. The animation was very good..it's an ova. There is some early CGI, but it's used very sparingly which was a good decision. The story was forgettable, in fact the first episode was so boring, the... See full review

Panzer World Galient

Aug 15, 2018

I don't think this anime is as bad as it's portrayed in the previous review, though that reviewer makes very valid points. The characters are indeed one dimensional, but the main villain. He's the most interesting character. Mardoul looks imposing but is a weakling physically he literally doesn't put up a fight. He makes others fight for him. But you have to like his ambition. This anime had potential. The story was not bad, but it felt undeveloped. There were episodes that were drawn out battles and it felt like a waste of time and than the ending felt rushed..so much could have been done. Galient I... See full review

Invincible Superman Zanbot 3

Nov 10, 2017

Zan/Zambot 3 debuted in 1977 and it's very much of it's time. It's a super robot show, with 70's animation but good for it's time, and 70's music which was very good. What separated it from other shows of this time was that it was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino the creator of Gundam. Tomino is known for the moniker "Kill Em All". Well this is one of his Kill Em All series. This one predating other massive body count Tomino series like Spacerunaway Ideon and Gundam Zeta. The story is simple. A family originally from another planet fight against aliens named the Gaizok. The Gaizok are out to kill all... See full review

Giant Gorg

Sep 21, 2017

The story felt stretched out, but that's not to say it's bad. It just felt like it could have been shorter. We have a cast of characters on a mysterious island and a giant mech (Giant Gorg). There's more to it than this..you have to watch it. The story is perhaps the weakest part of the this series, yet it's not bad. The animation was really good for 1984. Lot's of detail it was very good quality. The sound was good. Nothing stood out really bad or good. The characters were likable even the villians. I actually cared about the characters. They were not well developed but it was like being with friends. I... See full review

The Perfect Insider

May 19, 2017

I didn't like any of the characters in this show. I didn't care for them. They were not interesting. So I didn't focus on the characters and hoped for a good story. I enjoy murder mysteries, but I was also disppointed in this. The two main characters are supposed to be very intelligent, but it felt fake. The story was promising at first because of the mystery but the conclusion was too cartoony. The animation was fine. It's very standard. The sound the same. I don't remember the music actually. So give it a watch if you're curious. I did not like it. Maybe you will.

Lupin III: Part IV

Apr 22, 2017

It's awesome to see another Lupin III tv series. This time in his 4th outing. I have yet to watch the Pink Jacket series (3rd series) and saw a lot of the Red Jacket (2nd series) and saw the Gray jacket (1st series). I still prefer the 2nd series and the first half of the 1st series to the latest tv run, but it's still very good. While the first began with a dark, Bondish, more true to the manga Lupin and the second series was more comedic and adventurous. This new series takes a bit of the old. Lupin is in one location that being Italy except for one episode. This series is not dark like the Gray Jacket... See full review

Soul Buster

Feb 10, 2017

At 12 episodes and 13 minutes each this series goes fast. So fast that you maynot remember anything. It's forgetable. I will say that the opening and closing theme songs were very good. The animation is of good quality, but they use some techniques like weird shadowing and splatter on the screen that come off annoying at first. The story goes something with cards and the owners can summon the cards to fight for them. These card characters are beings from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms period. Sonshin is our main character, but it's strange because you don't know anything about him. The supporting cast is... See full review

Akagi Eiji it the main character and he comes from a family of boxers. His father was a famous boxer in his time, but Eiji only remembers his father as a boxer when he was at the end of his career and not very good. His older brother also boxes. Eiji himself is not interested in boxing. He music career fails. He has a rivarly with Kusanagi Naoya the High School Boxing Champ. Naoya has an interest in Eiji's childhood friend Marina. Eiji has an interest in Naoya's sister. So it's like a slice of life from a male's perspective with boxing and some comedy. What stood out the most for me was the music. Exciting... See full review

Desert Rose

Feb 16, 2015

I was suprised this had such a low overall rating. I thought it was awesome for a one shot OVA. This was one of the best examples of a shoujo/shonen mix. I wish I could see more or read the manga. CAT is a organization made up of beautiful women whom are highly skilled at their trade of anti-terrorism. Their leader is "Rosemary" Rosebanks. Who hates terrorist after losing her husband and son to a terrorist attack. They are sent out to a mission in Switzerland. There are mostly elements of shoujo with the artstyle and the leading ladies, but the shonen elements are well played. Great action scenes... See full review

Take the X Train

Feb 9, 2015

This will be a very short review. This OVA is very stylised and different. From 1987. The animation still holds up very well. It has a different art style, so it maynot be attractive to everybody. It has great music, very jazzy. I enjoyed the ending song/piece. There isn't much in characters. We have Toru who is the main guy and the Ghost Train X. There are others, but we really don't know who they are. Apparently Toru has some connection to this mysterious ghost train. We find out that he has ESP and his Alpha waves can control the Ghost Trains Beta waves. There are some characters with nefarious ideations... See full review

Kennel Tokorozawa

Jan 6, 2015

Oh boy where to begin. This is a girl meets dog romance. I will start off by saying that this anime will probably offend and disgust many. I'm pretty open minded and not easily offended. It's just a bizarre show. Not for kids. It's a comedy with fanserve and some nudity. This show is very Japanese, so for many Westerner's it might be too off putting and they may not see what's so comedic of the show. I personally didn't think it was funny only for the grooming/hair cut scene.  We are introduced to Rin Tin Tin a german shepard that lives with a family that owns a kennel. As soon as Rin said his name... See full review

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation -Heirs to the Stars-

Jan 4, 2015

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation - Heir to the Stars is the first of three movies that complie the Zeta Saga. This movie covers pretty much the first 15 episodes of the tv series more or less. There are changes to the story, that's why it's a new translation. But these changes are not drastic, at least not in this first movie. The story covers the Gryps Wars. We are introduced to Kamille Bidan and several other characters. We are also reintroduced to old faces from the One Year War.  The original tv series was released in 1985 and with this movie they inserted about 20 minutes of new... See full review

I've never seen the movie version or read the manga. Kamui is the main character. He has powers and he returns to the city he grew up in as a kid. There he meets old friends Fuuma and his sister Kotori. We also meet a plethora of characters that will have their destinies intertwined. Their destinies will determine if the Earth will be cleansed of human's or if humanity will move forward. These characters have their powers as well. It's one side against another. The Dragons of the Earth who want a new Earth and the Dragons of Heaven that are for humanity. I understood this but I did't understand the whole... See full review

Pupa

Jun 15, 2014

It's hard to make a good anime if it's only 3 mintues long for 12 episodes. It really leaves you too little time to establish a story and it's characters. I have not read the manga, but I heard there were some changes and some characters didn't show up in the anime. I guess they didn't have time to add them. The consesus is that this is a pile of crap as an anime. Yes, it's not good, but I don't think it's as bad as so many people say it is. I watched this twice. The first time an episode at a time each week when it was first released. Than I watched it again as a marathon. Enjoyed it much more when I... See full review

Hi no Tori: Yamto Hen is a animated adaptation of Osamu Tezuka Phoenix manga Volume 3. I have not read the manga, but from what I heard it is episodic and takes place in different points in time. Past and future. There is a Phoenix that legend has it if you drink it's blood you will gain immortality, but no one has done this successfully. This story takes place in the far past. Blue Comet SPT Layzner OVA

Nov 12, 2013

SPT Layzner was originally a 38 episode tv series. The creator of this series is the same guy that created Armored Trooper VOTOMS. This OVA consists of 3 one hour episodes. So you can imagine how much was cut out of the tv series to squeeze 38 episodes into 3 hours. I never watched the tv series, but it's obvious that it's been heavily edited. Characters come in and out with little development other than the main cast. The story is good. It's set in the future (1996). Earthlings have bases on the moon and mars. Bite Me! Chameleon

Oct 22, 2013

I'll make this really brief. I found this anime hiliarious. The the type of humor may not be for everyone. Lots of toilet and perverted humor. Yazawa wants to be the biggest gangster at his high school. But he's short, funny looking, and basically a loser. Somehow he gets into one thing after another unscathed, while being scared out of his mind. His rival is Aizawa a real gangster that just transfered to his school. Girl from Phantasia is a 1 episode OVA. It really should have had more episodes or had a tv series. I really enjoyed it. The story is not very ordinary by anime standards, but it still works on it's own. Akihiro our main character finds an old rug, he grabs it and cleans it with the intention of using it as a floor placement where he and his girlfriend Miyuki can sit on it during their date. She gains a rival in Sho, a rich kid that is also really good at bike racing. They have a big race at the end and well you have to watch it. There are other things going on to flesh out the story.
