Dorohedoro. One of my all time favorite mangas/anime. If I could describe Dorohedoro in two words it would be cheerful brutality, this is arguably what this eccentric manga is best at. The goofy juxtaposition of gore, brutality, and violence jumbled with dark humor, lightheartedness, and silliness makes Dorohedoro iconic. This distinct contrast is extremely charming and hilarious. The serious moments never linger, there is always some goofy comic release to lighten up the mood. No matter how brutal a person gets pummeled there is always someone cracking a joke about it or slipping on blood. I first starting reading the manga after the anime because I couldn't get enough of it. The premise was strangely gripping, making me automatically interested once I saw "lizard" and "looking for his head". Once I dove in to this great read the creativity I saw running rampant through this manga was amazing. I found myself in awe at the ingenuity that Q Hayashida was able to display. Her imaginination and whimsicalness when creating this manga is undoubtedly the work of a creative genius. Don't get me started on the crazy wordbuiling. The Hole and the Magic World is where the main characters live in. This is crazy interesting partly because of the inorganic mix of a dystopian slum filled wasteland fused with an interdimensional fantasy country with sorcerers. These worlds are presented to the audience through ink filled gritty, dark, and extemely detailed artwork throughout the manga. Q Hayashida's artstyle is automatically recognizable taking form in buff tall characters or short skinny ones with wacky and eye catching character designs all looking like they came out of a costume party. I never found myself liking the artwork in a manga so much. Especially Shin and Noi's character design. They looked so badass. In Dorohedoro every character is super unique and charming. The outlandish yet lovable main characters that share the limelight regardless of their roles as “good guys” or “bad guys” populate the two vastly different worlds. Dorohedoro has a habit of making each character excpetionally enjoyable despite their morally questionable background. I mean Kaimain and Nikaido killed tons of magic users without the blink of an eye yet I love them. I love Noi and Shin too but they actually enjoy killing and torturing their victims. With the light hearted nature of killing in this manga these attrocities aren't taken to heart. And the positions of the "bad guys" and "good guys" aren't either which makes it harder to side with one party or demonize the other. I find myself so captivated by the “bad guys” lives and enjoying their spotlight in the manga as well as adventures that they go on that I actually forgot that they were fighting with the “good guys”.  I rooted for both of them. The characters are just that good. The bad guys also have depth, motivations, and backstories as well as their own objectives and special people they care about which is another reason why I find myself not hating the “villains” at all.  This is just what makes this manga so entertaining and unique. As I was watching  I found myself in a state of awe at every crazy dopey action that some of the characters did as well as the rules and important people that would pop up in the sorcery world. Every moment there was something new and shocking that made me giggle. The devils were a big source of comedy doing dark yet laughable actions throughout the manga. I especially loved Haru, Chidarauma, and Asu they were just too good. Even though Dorohedoro has so much killing there isn't many consquences considering magic is in play. While in a more serious manga I would have scolded the lack of consquences I found myself enjoying them. I got too attached to these goofy characters to not enjoy this aspect. Dorohedoro is just that enchanting. The whimiscal recycling of each character and the wonderfully crafted character shields were just well...wonderful. I seriously recomend this manga because of it's crazy genius worldbuilding, unpredictable and goofy characters, it's absurdly dark comedy, and amazing illustration and because just so damn good. Dorohedoro is worth every second of your time
