The Witch and the Beast

Nov 15, 2023

This is such a good read, it's more complex than I had originally thought. The plot reminds me a lot of Dorohedoro, with a mystical being needing to find a specific witch to break a curse but not remembering their face. Although unlike Kaiman's way of identification, Guideau's is more amicabe to say the least. The art is also pretty good, the fashion is well thought out and each character is well executed. My only thing is that this artist is soooo good at drawing angled shots of conversation and yet, not as good at doing just head on perspectives. The faces end up too small for the heads, it's hard to... See full review

Children of the Sea

Sep 29, 2023

The anime is a very different story from this manga, the movie is beautiful in its own right, in ways that this manga just can't achieve. Just read/watch both. This series is very quiet, it's an introspective read. Nothing is really said aloud and most of the context needed comes from your own intuition and the clues the story leaves in it's art and in between what is said. I know that sounds pretentios but it honestly just gives you the option to see something beautiful unfold in front of you and choose to either leave it as it is or delve into deeper thought as you try to piece together the mystery of... Holiday Love: A Marital Romance

Sep 25, 2023

For fans of Peach Girl, Ceres, Euphoria (Maddie & Cassie specifically), and those 10min videos on TT that explain failed 2000s celebrity relationships in full detail: YOU NEED TO READ THIS.  The plot twists are insane and i have had to throw my phone away from me on multiple occasions and just stare blankly at the wall trying to piece together what happened to the mangaka for them to sit down and write this. Just when you think it's getting better I promise you it only gets worse but in the best way possible. This manga is just a Russian nesting doll of betrayal and you never see it... See full review

Two Sizes, too small

Jul 29, 2023

I know that the whole point of the story is their height difference but holy shit he's drawn like a literal child. There's a scene at the end where someone is sitting down to fix the uke's outfit while the uke stays standing and the person's knees are at the uke's hips. HIS KNEES WERE THE SAME HEIGHT AS THE UKE'S HIPS... that is a toddler. And it was just such an uncomfy read, I kept going because I thought the character design would get better or maybe he'd have a glow up and his features would mature but nope. Just a child the entire time, paired with a man who's first thoughts after learning he's in... See full review

Matcha Made in Heaven

Jul 25, 2023

I love this. I'm a sucker for tropish stories and this one checks a lot of my favorites off: Fake dating? check! Forced proximity? check! One bed trope? check! enemies to lovers with communication? check! A leading man who actually understands what it means to reassure his partner when she's insecure about their relationship? CHECK! Is this also super cheesy and full of fluff so if you like tropes, please check this out! Warning tho: as of rn it's only been officially translated up to a huge cliffhanger so I'm really upset rn. I still recommend it tho but I'd give it like 3... See full review

Shanghai Youma Kikai

Feb 16, 2023

Honestly this made me laugh out loud a lot more than I thought it would. It seems a lot like a test run for a for a potential series and considering the fact that FMA came out a year later, I think it's safe to safe she made the right choice in setting this one aside. There isn't much of an introduction to this world but it still does a good job of taking you along for the ride rather than overwhelming you with new elements.  As always, the art style is impeccably vibrant and expressive. Arakawa has always done a good job at portraying the relationships between her characters with their body language... See full review

Why Don't I Have Anyone by My Side?

Feb 13, 2023

I really enjoy this manga. Definitely a refreshing take on childhood friends to lovers with a massive falling out due to miscommunication. But they clear it up pretty quickly and I find myself genuinely enjoying each chapter.  The characters are pretty interesting and they all have a lot of depth to them. I'm interested in seeign how all of this plays out and who everyone actually ends up with. There's also something about the art style that I can't quite put my finger on. I've seen a lot of different art styles through the years but this one seems so familiar yet different at the same time it's hard... See full review

Hanasakeru Seishounen

Oct 18, 2022

(potential spoilers) There's power in choosing your destiny, in knowledge and danger stems from ignorance and allowing your successors to repeat your mistakes.  I read this manga many years ago and the story always stuck with me. I went in expecting a reverse harem with some drama and maybe light angst, but I wasn't expecting the intricate tale woven from such basic plot line. The author breaks out of the box with one add on: she has to guess who is a part of her harem of suitors, and they have to fall in love with her without knowing they're a part of the game. There's political intrigue... See full review

Silver Kamuy

Oct 13, 2022

I love Golden Kamuy and I held off on reading this because I thought it would spoil something for me (which is true, it does spoil some character relations/dynamics) but I'm honestly mad I didn't read it sooner. This was the funniest thing I've read in a while. I thought GK humor was elite but this thing is in another league entirely. The script is different and it's adjusted to the age of the characters and I think it's perfect. It does appear to be a copy of the original work frame by frame, so you're looking for a different story you might be dissapointed for a second.  Although this entire piece... See full review

The Time When We Were Young

Sep 3, 2022

This story is a very refreshing take for the Isekai genre. A lot of the times these stories disregard the MC's original life and they get completely wrapped up in the new world. But this story allows for the MC to travel back and forth between both of her lives. She retains all of her memroies and her experiences in both and it's really cool to see her thought process as its happening. This story reminds me of a show called Outlander. (****SPOILERS FOR OUTLANDER*****)  In the show, the MC is able to travel back in time and the amount of time she spends in each place is reflected in how muhc time is... See full review

Matchmaker Hero

Sep 3, 2022

I read this as it was coming out weekly and I'm still mad that it was cancelled. The amount of potential this story had ADSNHJAFDKAD. It was ridiculous, it was Camp, it had plot for days and the main characters had some pretty intense chemistry. I wish we had gotten the chance to see the storyline play out a little more, the adventure with the alien brothers and the way that the art was going UGH, just so much potential sitting on the shelf forever. It's still a good read, def check it out tho!!

Jaguar

Sep 3, 2022

The first time I read this I had no idea what I was getting into. But I liked it? I had to keep rereading it to fully understand what was going on. Each read I focused on a different aspect of the manga.  First was the story and what they were saying. Then what the author was saying through the artwork. And then the third read I put it all together. I felt like a little kid learning to play piano for the first time, just focusing on one hand at a time until I was coordinated enough to put them both together. This is such a short little story but I love it so dearly, and I can't say that I wouldn't do... See full review
