You nailed the reason it is liked so much. It doesn't follow any of the tropes. For the romance it is with out the typical Drama each romance anime predictably has. For ecchi it goes over the top and yet is minimal at times. For harem they have started a possiblitly but only started. It is a slow growth slice of life with a lot of fun and none of the predictable tropes. Plus it has Cosplay which most anime fans enjoy outside of anime.

It's solution are a much different view point then the american view point I'm used to and it also show's the hard negative choices as well. For the political actions, I find it pretty interesting but I get most people don't like view points especially if they are contrary to there own.
This anime started out with so much promise, was actually doing something different, but now? Now it's just another stupid harem isekai and i'm done.

The problem for them being that the light novel jumps all over the place. You have one chapter with Rudy going to the Demon contient and the next chapter starting off with lets now explore how things are elsewhere. One chapter shows Rudy's fight with dad and the Next chapter show's the whole thing again from the Dad's perpective. This would never make a good anime. I agree there is loss but I believe the way they adapted it is far better following the light Novel. But if you want to close the plot whole the light novel fills them in completely.
