Welcome to my page,

I'm an old timer with anime mid 70's. Speed Racer is the earliest anime that I remember the story and characters well.  There were a few Mecha's I can't recall totally. I remember the original Sailor Moon but didn't like it much.  The last few years have I expanded my viewing now I have 2 paid subscriptions.  I never took to manga but last year started reading light novels which I enjoy.  I prefer Sub's over Dub's as I like the sound of Foreign Languages.  I find the Chinese Anime to be more like american style cartoons in theme and characters, only design being different. I do find myself liking the Newer anime better than the 70's and 80's anime.  Better artistict character designs and background art.  The older stuff was more simplistic.

I agree with you it does do that very well and it is very interesting, which is why i really didn't want to drop it. The trouble is that the harem nonsense is not only incredibly ill fitting but it also completely destroys (my) immersion within the world. Had it just been something that appeared in one episode (as it was in the first part) i would've just overlooked it, but here we are deep within the second part and it's become a major element of the story.
