High-Rise Invasion

A good plot ruined by unnecessary fan service and inconsistent pacing....

  • THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS

I binged this in 6 hours. The Netflix preview seemed promising. However, I was already annoyed in the first five minutes from all the "oni-chan" bullcrap. The writers did a terrible job at introducing the setting in the first episode, introducing characters, and coherently explaining all the "angel/god" stuff. Seriously, it was so bad that I think I understand Nen a thousand times better. Not to mention that the ending dosn't seem finished or solidified, whether it be a two-season anime or not. There are so many questions I have.

This could have been a great 24-episode anime, but it seems as if Netflix just wants to push their staff to pump out a ridiculous amount of "Netflix Original Anime" every year and not pay them enough, so we get disappointments like this.

All the female protagonists were horribly written, especially the girl who could control the railgun (I didn't bother to remember her name). You'd think that someone with a major ability like that wouldn't be so useless, but all the way through to the end, she was. Then we had Mayu, whose shirt got ripped early on in the series. Her chest was exposed basically the whole series, which is confusing to me because she killed so many people and could've easily gotten a new shirt or jacket like with how she got Yuri boots and new weapons.

Other things that bothered me were the music composition (didn't fit the setting of most scenes, but luckily it wasn't loud enough, so I could just ignore it), and the unholy amount of times I had to see a high school-aged girl's underwear. I can say that I might be biased because I ABSOLUELY HATE ANY type of fan service in any anime & manga, probably due to me being asexual. However, this was just bad. The production team really threw a panty-shot at the audience any time they got. It ruined what could've been some great action scenes too.

I would not watch this anime if it ever got a second season made by Netflix. I encourage all others to do the same as well.
