Let's see, my first exposure to Japanese animation ran when I was young, about the time when shows like Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Sailor Moon were on the rage. At the time, I lacked any understanding of the word "anime," aside for the occasional fond memory. Then there was the Big 3, which introduced me to the wonders globalization has wrought on televised media, expansive, imaginative elements prevalent in cartoons meshed with those gutsier directions and themes today's mainstream American entertainment's rarely been able/willing to address in my experience. Unfortunately, their appeals wore on me for a number of reasons, those relating to story quality being most prominent. But before I could resign myself from my animated fascinations of years past, I flipped the channel to a little known series known as Code Geass. And what a ride it has been since then.
