The Asterisk War

Oct 7, 2015

(No Spoiler Review)

This is pretty classic for the genre of School Battles. Meaning, you have slice of life combined with having to battle for school pride or your hierarchy of needs as you become a student.

The setting is classic and standard light novel, meaning it is well constructed from an original base, with its own world logic and justifications. Generally anime isn't the best format for dumping that much information on people to the point where it makes sense, but this introduction episode did a relatively good job of centering me on what this world is like.

There's also some foreshadowing about childhood friends. Generally this series reminds me, at episode 1 at least, of the Irregular at High School. If you haven't watched that anime, generally it's about a rather powerful main character. Meaning unlike shounen shows which is about the underdog triumphing, powerful or overpowered main characters in fantasy or science fiction school battles is more about leadership and how to properly and wisely use your power, vs merely gaining it from a Naruto or Bleach pov. It relies on the martial mechanic or ethic, that if you have gained useful skills in battle, it's not a good idea to show it off or else you become a target and also dishonor your own skills in the process. So that's kind of the vibe I get from episode 1 about the main character, without cheating by reading the original source.

The main heroine or main female character is what I classify as kuul-tsun. Meaning instead of tsundere, she's more like ice. Similar to the non emotional character stereotype that doesn't react (like the Japanese usually do, via super control of their facial muscles). So combined with her magical abilities, that would make her into Fire and Ice, so to speak, in terms of how her character comes off as. A tsundere character is normally insecure to the point where they cannot be honest with their opinions or emotions, but that isn't how the main heroine in the episode 1 looks to be crafted from. She runs rather hot and cold at times.

Can u tell me some more anime with overpowered main characters. Cause I've been searching for them ever since I watched irregular at magic high school. Plus I'm tired of the whole shonen concept to b completely honest.
