honestly yeah lmao it's really not that great. Xie Lian doesnt have much of a purpose and does the bare minimum in most arcs but hey at least hes pretty, but thats not enough to make me like him. but also yeah, the manhua and donghua both focus on the cheesed up romance but probably the donghua is more egregious because theres dramatic music and all that. like mdzs is very plot oriented, concise, and the romance isnt the central theme, though a nice touch. in heaven officials blessing everything revolves around the romance, and if the romance is not there, the story cannot stand, unlike mdzs which still has great mystery, the heart wrenching relationship between jiang cheng and Wei wuxian, and all the super cool political stuff
