These anime feature romantic or sexual relationships between two adults.

Androids are artificially-created beings that are made to look and act like humans - in advanced cases, they are indistinguishable. As machines, they are often shown as possessing stronger logic and reasoning than real humans; however, this logic can also limit them, as they can have difficulty processing emotional concepts or social relationships. These anime feature Androids in starring roles, either as main characters or as important elements of the plot or setting.

Cohabitation is an arrangement where unmarried people who are in a romantic or sexual relationship live together. These anime showcase the ups and downs of cohabitation, such as the little things that happen in day-to-day life, intimacy, or even breakups. Occasionally, cohabitation can involve poly relationships.

These anime feature characters who are elves. Members of elven races are often slender, have pointy ears, and have a talent for archery; but other kinds of elves exist as well, such as those that work for Santa at the north pole.

Fantasy anime take place in a broad range of settings influenced by mythologies, legends, or popular and defining works of the genre such as The Lord of the Rings. They are generally characterized by a low level of technological development, though fantasy stories can just as easily take place in our modern world, or in a Post-apocalyptic society where technology was buried alongside the old world. These anime also tend to feature magic or other extraordinary abilities, strange or mysterious creatures, or humanoid races which coexist with humanity or inhabit their own lands removed from ours.

Josei (女性), translated as "woman", is a demographic aimed at women from late teens through adulthood. These titles tend to be more mature, often focusing on realistic situations such as work life or romance. Josei is the counterpart of Seinen, a demographic aimed at older teens and men.

These anime showcase maids: women - or rarely men - who are employed to help cook, clean, run errands, or anything else that their master requires. The anime might also feature a Master-Servant Relationship. Alternately, maids might be employees of a theme cafe where cosplay is required to please customers.

These anime showcase what it’s like to be married. The couple's married life might include day-to-day tasks, or activities that help strengthen their intimacy inside or outside of the bedroom. Or, the anime might focus on the relationship failing - even divorce.

These Romance anime typically feature relationships between Adult Couples or College students. Unlike high school romances, these stories typically feature more mature themes that adults experience in relationships.

These anime take place in a setting thematically similar to Europe in the middle ages. Castles, moats and small villages adorn the landscape, and knights, military forces and feudal kingdoms rule the populace.

Unlike their earthbound counterparts, these anime take place in the depths of space: from planets in the outermost reaches of the galaxy, to space stations in orbit around Earth, to ships that travel the solar system, or anything in between.

Robots are machines that can be programmed to do a human's bidding. They often have an artificial intelligence, similar to their human-like Android counterparts; depending on their programming, this intelligence can at times create conflicts against their creators' wishes. Unlike their partially human Cyborg brethren, robots are entirely mechnaical.

These anime showcase the joys and hardships of falling in love, whether a schoolgirl has an unrequited crush on her senpai, a Love Triangle occurs within a group of friends, or rivals become lovers through competition or their intense passion for each other.

Romantic comedies, also known as romcoms, are a type of comedy anime focused on relationships. Typically, they feature characters who meet and ultimately fall in love, but can sometimes focus on already-coupled characters whose relationships grow throughout the story. The progression of their relationship is usually what provides the comedy aspect; for example, through the obstacles the couple faces such as a love triangle, or through mismatched personalities, misunderstandings, or other common tropes.

Sci-fi, or science fiction, is a speculative genre which builds on imagination. Sci-fi anime ask, "what if things were different?" They explore a new world, whether it's the world of the future or past, a present Earth with a changed history, a land that was previously unknown, or another planet entirely. The genre commonly features humanity's inquisitiveness and innovation, as they grapple with new technologies, new societies, or new frontiers in Outer Space.

Space Operas take place primarily in Outer Space or across many worlds. They are known to have a large-scale sense of Adventure, Romance, complex characters and Political conflicts which often lead to epic space battles.

In these titles, Space Pirates pillage and plunder spaceships throughout the galaxy, rather than sailing the seas like their swashbuckling brethren.

Steampunk describes an alternate timeline based on the industrial revolution, where steam-powered technology like airships, robots and appliances are commonplace. Invention and imagination are common themes in these anime, and elaborate, mechanical devices with cogs, gears, wheels and lenses are found everywhere, even in the outfits of ordinary people.

Also called paranormal, supernatural events are those modern science has difficulty explaining. Supernaturally oriented titles are often steeped in folklore, myth, or Urban Legend. They may involve strange or inexplicable phenomena, Psychic Powers or emanations, and/or ghosts or other fantastic creatures. Supernatural events are those that lie at the edge of our understanding - they are easy to believe in, but difficult to prove.

Rough and tough exterior - soft, sweet, nougaty center. A Tsundere is a character who is or appears conflicted in their affection for another, seeming either interested or apathetic, dismissive, or even vicious in turns as the circumstances change. These anime showcase Tsundere types as major characters. B-because they don’t really like that person! Baka!

These anime feature witches: magic users who often possess classic traits such as pointy hats, flying brooms, and black cat familiars. Some are protagonists looking to improve their craft, have adventures, or save the world; others might be tricksters or outright villains who cause suffering and misfortune for others. Young witches might study Magic by serving an Apprenticeship, or attending a Magic School.
