Castlevania

Apr 28, 2018

It's boring, nothing like the game, and has too many tags that are only relevant for 2-4 mins of the entire 90mins that span across the 4 episodes. Most of the time is spent following this Belmont guy as he talks, and talks, and seems to take up 90% of the screen and dialogue time. It only started to get my interest within the last 5 mins of episode 4. That says a lot considering I am heavily biased in favor of almost any vampire / horror, you just don't feel like those elements are present. The animation looks great and has the right look for the tags, but that alone can't carry it.

I have not played the games much, but enough to know that they are action based games. These 4 episodes don't reflect that at all as the dialogue feels never ending. Castlevania games tend to have very legendary music, but the little music here just doesn't have the same impact either. The cast members weren't interesting as the one guy was hogging the spot light most of the time. It just got to the point of where it was hard to sit still and endure it anymore.

There is hope that any future episodes might be more interesting. That's where the action starts to briefly shine through, the demon looks appealing, and something vampire related appears again. I was expecting this to be epic, or at least to pull off something interesting to make the 90 minutes worthwhile, but there just wasn't. Vampires are an old concept with so many possibilities and I would be satisfied with almost any form of them, they just weren't there though because the Belmont guy talked endlessly. If you can handle that, you might like this, if you have a hard time watching a single character talk endlessly with little happening, just skip to the mentioned bit at the start of this paragraph. There is nothing 4 star about this.

1/10 story
10/10 animation
5/10 sound
