Sometimes its good to have a benchmark for what truly defines the bottom of the bucket. If you want to see just how bad an anime can be, I would recommend giving this a watch. Otherwise I can not recommend this to anyone for any reason. Story: There wasn't really much of one. There was an old guy and a young girl sailing on a boat to go to the middle of nowhere to play their musical instruments. The animation was so bad that it was often difficult to make out exactly what is going on beyond that, and the fact that there was no dialogue at all didn't add any clarity. Sound: There was a constnat ambient... See full review

Heavenly Delusion

Oct 11, 2023

I enjoyed this anime quite a bit.  While it defintely has its faults, I felt like there was a lot more good than bad. I love the premise. 2 people going around from one ruined city to another chasing rumors about a place called heaven which is supposed to be a paradise within a post apocalyptic world. A bit like 7 Seeds. At the same time you get to see a few glimpses of life within the so called "heaven" which seems to be some kind of corrupt research facility disguised as an orphanage, sort of like Promised Neverland. For the most part, I thought the anime did a good job executing on its... See full review

The Ambition of Oda Nobuna

Sep 4, 2023

As far as production quality goes, I loved it.  The music sounded amazing and there was a pretty stellar cast of voice actors who performed wonderfully in their roles.  While the combat isn't going to live up to something like Demon Slayer, it was entertaining to watch and I loved all of the outfits.  Still, at the end of the day, I'm not really sure who this anime was for.  I feel like anyone who is a historical buff when it comes to feudal Japan is going to be turned away based on all of the blatant historical inaccuracies. On the other hand, people just looking for flashy combat... See full review

Persona 5 the Animation

Mar 30, 2023

I would recommend this anime to anyone who has played Persona 5 a long time ago and kind of wants to play it again but doesn't have 100 hours to spare in the forseeable future.  For the most part, the story of the anime is very faithful to the original game. Almost everything that happened within the anime also happened in the game, however the sequence of events was often rearranged in order to mix things up a bit. There were also several occasions where a few different scenes from the game that were deemed not important enough to make the cut in the anime were sort of thrown together in a... See full review

Date a Live

Nov 22, 2022

My feelings about this anime are very mixed. I thought the world building was fairly interesting. I love the idea of clashes between magic and technology, and a war between spirits that can cause natural disasters, a military organization dedicated to destroying them and another organization that is trying to save them was an excellent premise for a battle anime and I thought this series had excellent combat.   On the other hand, the romance aspects of this anime really dragged the whole thing down for me. There were a bunch of moments where the entire flow was completely interrupted to create a... See full review

The Ancient Magus' Bride

Dec 23, 2021

I can't remember the last time I felt this polarized about a series. In some aspects it is near perfection, but in others it is severely lacking. Story- This anime seemed to not really have an overall story, but rather lots of 1-2 episode arcs pieced together. Many of the episodes felt like they were unnecessary and did not accomplish much.  That being said, not all of them were bad. Any episode where Chise put herself in danger for the sake of someone else and then tried to deal with the consequences as things got out of hand were exciting. Other episodes felt like Chise was stoic the entire episode... See full review

Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends

Dec 12, 2021

I'm not sure how this anime ended up on my WTW list, but it was one of my recommendations for Secret Santa so I decided to give it a go. Story - Really not much of a story here. A bunch of people with weird personality traits form a club where they try to make friends.  Each episode focuses on the group doing things that friends normally do together, things like playing video games, going to the beach, and singing.  I never really felt like there was any kind of overall goal or any progression towards it.  Individually episodes were hit or miss for me. Sometimes I felt engaged from start to... See full review

Talentless Nana

Dec 6, 2021

This anime was basically what My Hero Acedemia might have been if Duku was the polar opposite of what his character actually is. A dark analytical villain instead of a goody two shoes hero.  It is quite the interesting concept. I felt like this series took inspiration from a lot of other anime that I have watched and generally liked, but at the same time I haven't seen anything quite like it. The story seems like it took a lot of inspiration from Dangan Ronpa and Death Note.  Nana is tasked with a mission to infiltrate and island of people with super powers and assassinate as many of them as... So I'm a Spider, So What?

Sep 26, 2021

I absolutely loved this series. The story is a mix of 2 separate stories that sort of come together at the end. An explosion occurs in a classroom causing a lot of people to be reincarnated into a fantasy realm. Most end up together in a magic school where they work to hone thier skills and become strong enough to go on an adventure to find the students of the class that are still missing. The other is the tale of a girl who is reincarnated as a spider trapped in a huge labyrinth of caves and has to hunt to survive and eventaully grow strong enough to fight her way out. While both stories were interesting... See full review

Dog Days

Aug 27, 2021

I may be biased as someone ith a strong affinity for dogs, but I absolutely loved this series. I think this was one of the coolest worlds I have ever seen in an anime and the low stakes war story that they were able to tell within it was very entertaining for me. Story - In a world where cat people are in a perpetual war with dog people, the cats have had a major advantage for the last several battles and the dogs decide to summon a hero to fight for them.  The hero quickly learns that wars in this world are more like a spectator sporting event than actual combat, but as a natural athlete he gives it... Night on the Galactic Railroad

May 7, 2021

After watching this movie I have no idea why it is ranked so highly or what other people see in it.  This felt like a complete waste of time to me. Story - This movie pretty much lacked everything that makes a good story. Conflict, antagonists, characters with goals and actions they take to achieve those goals or really anything. Animation - The art style itself was pretty much the only redeeming thing about this anime. It looked pretty cool especially for being an 80s anime. On the other hand, none of the events in the story really triggered strong emotions so all you could really see of the... See full review

Wanna be the Strongest in the World

May 6, 2021

Going into this anime I was expecting it to be complete trash, and while it certainly has some issues I actualy enjoyed watching it. Story - This is where I feel like the anime was the weakest. For any sports anime, one of the msot important aspects of it is to be unpredictable and for the most part this anime failed at that. Every match in the series had a predictable result so the shock and awe factor was kind of missing. Additionally there were some matches where blatant cheating was ignored by the referee and when that happened it kind of lost its moment to moment immersion. It wasn't all bad though... Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl

Dec 19, 2020

I found this series to be an overall solid romance anime. Story - First of all, I have to say that while it was only a minor sub plot, the idea of alien life forms trying to perform a logical analysis of the relationships of high school girls was hilarious and it definitely shined within the overall story. As far as the main plot goes, it was about a boy who due to an alien crash landing into Earth and injuring him and the medical process not going according to plan, turns into a girl. While as a boy he was extremely shy and reserved, as a girl she feels like she has nothing to lose and makes an effort... See full review

Midori Days

Dec 10, 2020

Judging by what the other reviews have said this anime clearly has an audience, but it wasn't for me. The story was a concept that didn't particularly appeal to me. A tough guy who can't get a girlfriend and a gril who admires him randomly fuse together in such a way that she becomes his right hand as a miniature version of herself.  Midori adores Seiji and for her this is a dream come true, while Seiji feels more like she is a burden on his path to find a real girl. From that premice it felt like this anime tried to pass itself off as a drama, but most of the drama was characters screaming at each... See full review

Girls Bravo

Dec 5, 2020

There is a lot of good and a lot of bad with this series and I feel like when everything is considered it ends up somewhere around average. Most of the characters fall into a typical harem archetype and don't really get developed beyond that. The main protagonist is fairly weak, doesn't seem to have any clearly definable goals and just kind of gets dragged around by the whims of the story. The women fall into the archetypes of the standoff tomboy, the oblivious girl, the shy girl, and the little girl who thinks she is more mature than she is. While there is some character development throughout the series... See full review

Koi Kaze

Oct 29, 2020

This anime felt like a budget production to tell a boring story with an overwhelmingly predictable ending. The story is about a brother and sister who are attracted to each other, but they both go through internal struggles with a taboo relationship. Most episodes are a series of awkward moments between Nanoka trying to get close to her brother, and Koshiro trying to push her away. I found at the end of most episodes that nothing meaningful happened. Animation felt kind of lackluster. For the most part the character drawings at any given time were acceptable, but nothing really struck me as going above... See full review

Noir

Jul 12, 2020

My feelings on Noir ended up being kind of mixed.  While I loved the premise of a girl who has the muscle memory of an assassin but no memory of why she became that way, I felt like the anime dragged its feet a bit too long before going anywhere. While the story didn't live up to my expectations, Noir's sound and animation made up for it. Characters - Noir's two main characters are Kirika and Mireille. These two are not exactly an average pair. Mireille is an experienced assassin who always works alone, but she finds herself working with Kirika who is a much more skilled assassin, but she lost her... See full review

Kokkoku: Moment by Moment

Dec 13, 2019

This feels like another anime that starts off interesting with a cool concept and a lot of potential and then the splendor of the cool concept wears off after a couple of episodes and drags on from the middle to the end. Story - What seems like an average family has one of their own get kidnapped and they are charged a ransom that they can't afford with only 30 minutes to get the money.  The grandfather reveals a spell that can put the entire world into stasis where time is completely frozen. It doesn't take long to find out that knowledge of stasis and a stone that enables it was what the... See full review

Kiznaiver

Dec 10, 2019

Kiznaiver takes one of the most fascinating concepts that I have ever seen in anime, and uses it as a foundation to tell a solid story with likable characters and good character development. Story- The premice for this anime is absolutely fascinating. A group of 7 people go through a medical procedure that links them all together causing all of the pain each individual would experience to be divided equally among all of the other members.  The group only had to survive a summer together sharing in each other's pain. The first few episodes had me completely entranced by the concept, but somewhere in... See full review

Yurikuma Arashi

Dec 3, 2019

If you are looking for an anime that is a far cry from anything you have ever seen before, this just might be the one for you.  Hidden somewhere deep within a world where cute girls are struggling to survive a deadly invasion of adorable bears, there is a heartwarming story of friendship and a strong message to never give up on love. Story - The main story going on is a girl named Ginko fell in love with a girl named Kureha. Ginko wished to become a girl so they could experience true love together. A celestial court that exists between the realm of bears and humans approved her transformation, but... See full review

Brave Witches

Nov 23, 2019

Brave Witches is a side story that takes place within the world of the Strike Witches series.  The story is a pretty typical underdog's rise to glory arc. While it is not groundbreaking, it was enjoyable. Character development is where Brave Witches was the weakest. While the main characters felt lovable and well developed to me, some of the support characters could have used a bit more attention.  What Brave Witches lacks in character development and story, it made up for with animation and sound. Overall a very enjoyable watch for me. Story - Hikari is a girl who lives in the shadow of her big... See full review
