Worth while fantasy.

Japan has a way of taking western fantasy and messing it up but here are some cases where they did ok. There are some things in this not based on western stories but the point is that this is stuff worth watching. This is also a list for D&D fans.
1 Berserk

Berserk is the pinicle of what good fantasy should be. Both in the characters and the villans of a series. The manga is amazing and should be read. And even if you have seen this do not skip parts of the manga.

2 Dragon Half

Dragon Half

Ok, yeah I know what this looks like but hear me out Dragon half is pretty damn funny. The show is a shameless promotion for it's manga but this OVA will most likely get you to try it simply for the humor.

3 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

If you haven't seen Fullmetal Alchemist at all, you should, Brotherhood is more based off the manga then the original 2003 show, but this doesn't make the 2003 show less worth watching.

4 Fullmetal Alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist

5 The Vision of Escaflowne

The Vision of Escaflowne

Not real big fan of mecha and it's been a while but I remember this show being pretty awesome.

6 Tales from Earthsea

Tales from Earthsea

Some people think that this was not very good. If you have never heard of Ursala K leguin you will be ok. I put this in here more to get people directed to a really good author. Go read Earthsea you can probly find it at the local library.

7 Gokudo

Ok so I am a DM and a D&D player. Gokudo is a perfect example of a chaotic neutral character. This show is great and well worth watching if you play D&D or are even just a fan of classically drawn anime.

8 Guin Saga

Guin Saga

It's been a long time and I need to do some rewatching.

9 Howl's Moving Castle

Howl's Moving Castle

It's about a wizard a castle that walks and a girl that is cursed to be old.

10 InuYasha

I give this one to japan,no western infulence here, InuYasha is really very good. Tiresome at times and very long running but well worth watching untill you get bored of it.

11 Erin

No spoilers here, This show has so many feels.

12 Kiki's Delivery Service

Kiki's Delivery Service

A little witch trying to find her way in the world.

13 Maria the Virgin Witch

Maria the Virgin Witch

Ok I have not seen all of this anime. But one thing they got right and I love it, is the battles, not the ones where Maria desides to get into it and summon a dragon to stop the fighting, but the battles look right. The battles are realistic and they did their reserch making this anime really stand out.

14 Maoyu: Archenemy & Hero

Maoyu: Archenemy & Hero

Ok I have a difficult time remembering anime I watched that was subbed. This one is from the creators of spice and wolf and it's really very good.

15 Tweeny Witches: The Adventures

Tweeny Witches: The Adventures

16 Tweeny Witches

Tweeny Witches

Ok so while this show is difficult to follow the animation is solid and really quite awesome. I can't stand the english name for this show, but don't let that stop you it's worth watching.

17 Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Laputa: Castle in the Sky

More steampunk then fantasy but who cares.

18 Slayers

This includes all seasons not just Slayers. This show is Most D&D games in a nutshell though a little more serious.

19 Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit

Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit

20 Scrapped Princess

Scrapped Princess

21 Requiem from the Darkness

Requiem from the Darkness

More horror then fantasy, this is a interesting and dark anime, the name suits it. If you like ghost stories this here is the ticket.

22 Spirited Away

Spirited Away

23 The Sacred Blacksmith

The Sacred Blacksmith

24 Tears to Tiara

Tears to Tiara

25 The Twelve Kingdoms

The Twelve Kingdoms

This show was pretty good. It could have been shortened to about 25 episodes or so getting rid of 2 pointless story arcs that went nowhere but that being said I still had fun watching this.

26 xxxHOLiC

Ok XXXHOLiC is not really fantasy, but if you like supernatural and wierd stuff with characters that are and are not what they seem to be... well here you are. I am not a fan of the main character but the supporting cast really grows on you, watanuki is kinda a whineass. and a few times I have used some inspiration from this show for encounters in D&D games.
