Talentless hack and critic. I review Anime, games, and all kinds of wonderful crap on my youtube channel:
In addition, I also post these reviews, as well as the occasional written review on my Tumblr:
If you want to reccommend something for me to review, go ahead and let me know. If its good/terrible enough I'll make a video about it.
In my personal work, I perfer to not use a rating system. Since I like this site, however, heres a rough guide for my Anime-Planet ratings scale:
5: Near flawless in my eyes, with a distinct look and story. Any negatives are far, far outweighed by the good. My go-to list of Anime when people ask for a great experience. The ones that I return to time and time again, and the 5 rated title can still make me laugh, or cry, or get hyped up. Absolute perfect visualizations of the kind of risk taking talented artists who created something that'll stand the test of time.
4: Excellent. Theres flaws, sure, but nothings perfect. And when its all said and done its still very satisfying. The kind of show that could have been better, and has its lows, but if I overhear someone calling it the best thing ever, I'll at least smile and agree I liked it, possibly loved it. A great production that can only get better with a great foundation to build off of, or when a production hits all the notes it wanted to, and stands as a fantastic, competent experience thats easy to recommend.
3-2.5: Not bad but not great either. Its pros and cons balance out my scale of quality. It certainly has moments that hold my attention, dispite its flaws. Can range either from a well meaning but mediocre production, a heart breaking disappointment that could have been better, or when a title deserves to be rated poorly by me, but does just enough right to stay within my good graces. The "eh, I got nothing better to do" titles. There might be a diamond in the rough, but more often than not you're better off looking elsewhere.
2: Purely mediocre. Its look, style and tone are cookie cutter at best. Any enjoyment that can be gained from a 2 rated title can be found better in other titles, or a very trouble production that ends up bad, but forgettably so. Any glimmers of promise are entirely undermined either by poor design/implimentation, or a bland style that cares more for following a trend and cashing in on whats popular, rather than taking any risks or trying to be memorable. The "why the hell am I still watching this?" fixtures.
1: Not just bad, but horrifying so. Either intellectually offensive or just plain offensive. Horrible looks, style, tone, story etc. that all comes together to make a steaming pile of shit. The watching a car accident in slow motion levels of bad, its eye-widening, jaw droppingly atrocious, and makes me wonder how such a horrible thing recieved funding, or any effort that led to this eyeball molestation to cross my path. Stay. Far. Away.
Opinion and critique are of course completely subjective. Whether you enjoy something based on my recommendation, or you completely disagree with my assessment and like what I dislike anyway, all that matters is you enjoy yourself and have fun.
