Isn’t it strange when a character behaves out of… character? Imagine when a whole series feels out of… series. Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun (GN) is such a series and the reason it is so frakking bad in its own way.

This anime is of course a harem and one should expect nothing but substitute for porn and, if possible, some jokes. The joke part is how most of the times the male lead is a weak-useless-unreliable-undecided-scared-waste of mankind who for fan catering reasons all the girls in the show dig him for that. This show tried to have a twist in this formula by making the lead male very powerful and self-aware, which in theory means a far more likable character. Unfortunately the formula of such shows is so damn fixed in a mentality where anything that tries to change only makes everything even lamer than what it already are.

In this show, all the girls in the school constantly sexually abuse Ninomiya because his self-control and acrobatic skits when trying to escape them is considered super sexy. I guess playing it hard to get has its charm too and if you are raised to behave politely means automatically that any girl who does foreplay with you and begs for your cock to enter her is considered a reason to jump out of the window with a triple flip and landing on your feet, before needing to dodge a hundred death traps set by the jealous male population of the school.

This was actually fun the first couple of times. I mean, I haven’t seen that a lot in harems and so it felt refreshing… for a couple of times. Because after that it became repetitive and annoying, on top of being completely unrealistic and impossible to identify or sympathize with any character or situation. Because let’s face it, successful series are those you can find a part of yourself projected on one of the characters, even if it is just wishful thinking. Ninomiya is impossible to like for any given reason. A typical spineless harem lead would appeal to all the spineless wimps out there, but to what kind of people would this one appeal to? If ALL THE CHICKS IN YOUR SCHOOL have the hots for you and you are SUPER STRONG AND CAPABLE TO DEFEND YOURSELF then I see no reason why you shouldn’t just HAVE THE FUN OF YOUR LIFE! In a typical harem, you can kinda excuse the lead to be incapable to go for it because he is a waste of usable space but Ninomiya is not like that. He is clearly sexually active and from time to time even tries to do a few naughty things himself. He is otherwise not a saint, his own sister is a slut who does her best to have her brother do orgies so she can film the whole thing and the teachers in the school simply don’t give a rat’s ass about all that. Oh, and as always parents don’t exist.

This is one of the boldest premises I have ever seen for a hentai story and if it weren’t for Ninomiya’s impossible to understand personality, this show would be a porn feature with non-stop sex and violence. Of course so could any other harem but then again, the typical males there are simply lacking balls so it is less unrealistic for all them than for this one.

What is even harder to accept is how this anime could be a parody of harems. I mean, it is making fun of the archetypical lead male so in a way it counts. But then again, ain’t all harems as a genre nothing but a parody of school romances and hentais? So does that make GN the parody of a parody? Perhaps. Whatever it is, it still feels bad and even less unrealistic and after a few times you see it, becomes boring as any other run-of-the-mill harem out there.

The weirdness does not stop with Ninomiya, as the lead pink haired girl in the series is equally weird. She has androphobia and Ninomiya is chosen for his modesty to help her open up to men, while with his inhuman power he is also to protect her from other men. Because you see, she is a succubus who by nature makes men attracted to her as means to feed on their life. Again, this whole deal plays as a parody, as she is more than willing to do any perverted thing with him as means to open up (her legs lol) to other men(’s cocks). And as you can imagine she does a lot of things, all of which offer zero development to her and the plot in general.

The weirdness goes even further than that by having the lead blue haired girl in the series acting all weird as well. She acts like a snotty queen in front of everyone but doesn’t think twice before turning to a love-slave to Ninomiya and dressing/behaving in the most degrading to women ways. So yeah, she is clearly a parody of feminists acting all tough to men but go all pets to their favorite guy.

You know what? Maybe GN really is a parody of a parody after all. And maybe if it had done more than just a vague premise in its execution, it would be an interesting anime. I mean, if the plot was going somewhere or if 90% of the durations wasn’t tired-to-death ecchi jokes that don’t help the show escape its original formula. Well too bad because it didn’t; it is otherwise a same-old harem premise with lots of openings for romance and orgies where NOTHING HAPPENS and ends almost as it began. Let’s just say the idea was right but the execution lacked balls… hm, how ironic in a show where the protagonist has a pair for a change.

Beyond all that, the visuals are nothing great or spectacular; this is clearly a B to C grade production in terms of budget. The character figures look simplistic and there is a general lack in complicating animation or lightening effects. As usual, only the ecchi scenes are given more attention, which again makes the whole deal feel like a typical show even if it isn’t. Music themes and voice acting are again nothing major to remember but at least there are no overly ridiculous pinches in voice (not even pink-hair has annoyingly enough voice compared to others I have heard over the years) and the songs are relaxed pop pieces you hear twice without problem and then skip and forget entirely for the rest of your life.

Will I ever watch this again? No, but I will probably remember the parody of a parody part. It is an interesting concept to try to make a show to feel like that and then becoming all serious and dramatic, thus subverting the formula, deconstructing the genre and leading to new or evolved genres, to progress and freshness. HEAR THAN ANIME INDUSTRY? Stop frakking around with the same old shitz and try to mess with the formulas more.
