Fate Series, what is actually worth it ?

The Fate/Type Moon series is known to be milked to oblivion. I started with Fate/Zero which is what got me into the franchise but since I'm a completionist I watched it all even though not everything was as good.
1 Carnival Phantasm

Carnival Phantasm

Carnival Phantasm is a collection of some cross-over ova's between Fate and another Type Moon Series that I don't care enough about. They have some kind of olympics to decide which one is the best. All in all just filler and worth skipping, I won't blame you for doing so.

TLDR: NOT WORTH

2 Fate/Apocrypha

Fate/Apocrypha

Fate/Apocrypha is a series which takes a twist on the original Holy Grail rules where they do a 7 versus 7 team. Each team, team red & black, has their own 7 mages with their servant resulting a lot more action than before, a lot more characters which could develop. This causes for a lot more interesting plot because some master-servant combinations are forced. Honestly I see why people don't like this but compared to the whole franchise it is certainly at a good average.

TLDR: NOT FOR EVERYONE BUT INTERESTING.

3 Fate/Extra: Last Encore

Fate/Extra: Last Encore

Fate/Extra is taking another spin on a master-servant story in a virtual reality setting which certainly is a good change of pace but not for me. The story was quite decent but it did not impress me as any other anime that I enjoyed has done. The concept did not catch and reel me in causing that I did not even follow 100% of the story towards the end.

TLDR: CHANGE OF PACE, JUST NOT FOR ME

4 Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front - Babylonia

Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front - Babylonia

(Note: I actually wanted to talk about the OVA but I could not add it so as of 15/01/2019 this is my opinion bout it, I'll update once I've seen the series. Update 26/03/2020, I've seen the series now.)

This is a Fate installation set in a far away future in a spaceship. The setting is a typical end of the world thing where they have a population ready to inhabit any other place. This does not go quite as planned and the main characters end up fighting servants. How does that work without one of them being a magus & a master? Honestly just go watch it, if it attains this kind of quality with the main series it'll be good.

Given the fact that I did watch it in two parts due to time constraints and a busy period so the story faded away when I had the time to start watching the newest 5 episodes of it but regardless this series is a confusing clusterfuck. So if I'm getting the plot right this series is a futuristic sort of setting where two people need to enter a sort of simulation/alternate dimension to fix a 'Singularity' in order to save their world? Well, the answer to this question is that there are multiple Singularities but this show is one of the first ones. So within this Singularity, they are helping Gilgamesh with saving his kingdom (Uruk) even though Gilgamesh, as we know, is powerful enough himself to beat anything that comes across him. So they are helping him beating literal Gods and Goddesses who kind of teamed up to take control of Uruk and the rest of the world. They do betray each other a lot, conveniently enough for the plot. Writing this down and remembering how this plot went makes it quite clear that the plot is not worth it and it is not memorable to me at all. However, they did make sure to include superb animations because we all know ufotable likes to flex its muscles when it comes to the quality of animation.

TLDR: NOT WHAT I EXPECTED, YOU MIGHT ENJOY IT BUT YOU MIGHT ALSO NOT ENJOY IT AT ALL

5 Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya

Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya

Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya is a heck of a long title, just kidding wanted to point it out. At first I assumed it was a spin-off of the Fate/Stay Night series but I could not find the connection at all until I watched the first Heaven's Feel movie and saw the connection better. The series is a comedic kind of parody of any magical girl anime. They put another character in the spotlight and gave them a reason to be all together because why else would it be a spin-off right. The series constantly switched from action pact battles and tension brewing and on the edge sexual humour with 11 year old girls. This is not the anime you should watch with your parents like at all, not talking from experience. The series also varies from season to season tension and plot wise. For example one of the latest season was just the characters having fun on the beach for a big part of the series. Is it as entertaining as a regular Fate title? In terms of action it does it justice but it is way more laid back.

TLDR: MAGICAL GIRL FANS ASSEMBLE

6 Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya Movie: Vow in the Snow

Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya Movie: Vow in the Snow

Why do I mention this movie along the list while not mentioning any other movie aside from the Heaven's Feel one ? Good question, simple answer. The movie was totally different in terms of action and quality from the main series. This is also the reason why I don't hate Shirou Emiya into oblivion because he proofs himself to be a good character here.

TLDR: IF YOU WATCHED THE FATE/KALIED DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT SKIPPING THIS ONE

7 Fate/Prototype

Fate/Prototype

This special was quite... how do I put it ... something. It was just mindless faith battling for a short amount of time. It felt like a brainless commercial. I think it's called Protoype because they wanted to see how braindead their audience is. Never going to talk about it again, just don't watch it.

TLDR: NO, JUST DO NOT BOTHER

8 Fate/stay night

Fate/stay night

Fate/Stay night is a dissapointment of a sequel if you compare it to the original being Fate/Zero. Why? Shirou Emiya, I mentioned before in this list that he might be a hateable character. He honestly is because he is an empty minded idiot who has his hands on too much power. Every character looks down on him aside from his allies and they have every reason to do so. They even added an out of the blue love story in the mix which made me even angrier while watching. The main question is why they went through with him. They could've done it differently and done it justice.

TLDR: NOT THE SEQUEL YOU WANT TO WATCH

9 Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works starts off for a few episodes identical to the original one which proved recycling is not always a good cause. After that they give their own spin to the show and also made a solid attempt to solve Shirou Emiya. Honestly they did a fine job doing so and they added a whole new meaning to Shirou as a mage. They managed to develop a reason why a sub-par mage like him is able to summon a servant with the strength like Saber. The first season also ends with a heck of a twist which came out of nowhere. Is it the sequel we deserve to Fate/Zero ? Even though they made Shirou into a somewhat likeable character his decision making did not improve being the main problem I had with the sequel.

TLDR: NOT QUITE THERE YET AS A DECENT SEQUEL BUT DECENT QUALITY.

10 Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel I. presage flower

Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel I. presage flower

(Note: The first paragraph talks about the first movie and dates back from 15/01/2019 and the second paragraph talks about the sequel and dates back from 23/08/2019)

Honestly the movie format does the Fate/Stay Night anime justice. It is fastly paced without losing in on quality. The battles are way more fancier and have more tension. The first movie did not give me the feeling that I was watching another attempt for redemption of the original. You could watch Fate/Zero and watch the first movie and not actually feel disappointed about the experience. I'm curious how much of a twist we will get to see like in Unlimited Blade Works. I just hope that ufotable knows what they are doing this time instead of putting their head in the sand.

The second movie outperforms the first movie by quite a margin. The plot improved, okay they included a romance segment but it's a relatable romance that server an important plot point later on in the movie. It solved the romance which I found ridiculous the other fate/stay night arcs. Ufotables animation also improved greatly, which makes the battles between servants actually into a war. This movie is also a whole lot darker but actually, I think it suits it better. I'm excited about the final movie.

TLDR: GREAT MOVIES, BEST FATE/STAY NIGHT

11 Fate/Zero

Fate/Zero

Fate/Zero shows us the original and first Holy Grail war, and in an ideal world where the franchise was not milked would have been a stand-alone series. The original battle of 7 masters and their servants fighting to the death for the eternal glory to make a wish. This could be solve some unsolved thing in your life or simply improve it. The character development is immensly good, the master and servants really follow each other's ideals and they are great additions to each other personally like a good couple. You really had the feeling that death meant that it was truly over for a contestant. This results in a quite bloody massacre between servants and masters alike. This includes alliances and betrayals and twist beyond your imagination. Why are you reading this and not watching this ?

TLDR: WATCH THIS, IF YOU LIKE THIS A LOT ATTEMPT MY OTHER FATE/RECOMMENDATIONS

12 Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note

Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note

Lord El Melloi II's Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note is aside from the longest name in this list also more surprisingly to be connected to the main timeline than I first thought it would be. It's sort of a sequel to the events of Fate/Zero and a prequel (probably, timelines are confusing in the Type/Moon universe) to Fate/Stay Night.

We follow Waver Velvet, now dubbed Lord El-Melloi II, after the events of the Fate/Zero where he now teaches new mages and basically is a part-time magus/sherlock. He solves cases that involve weird magic occurrences in an orderly fashion and learn more about how the events of Fate/Zero had an impact on Waver and his decisionmaking.

I'm a little bit biased toward Waver because his relationship with Rider was the best character development in Fate/Zero altogether. Although this series does take its time with filler before it actually establishes a case with a connection to the holy grail wars and such which makes it way more interesting.

TLDR: ASIDE FROM THE FILLER MORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT FROM WAVER AS A PERSON WITH A SPRINKLE OF MAGIC SHERLOCK

13 Today's Menu for Emiya Family

Today's Menu for Emiya Family

Today's Menu for Emiya Family is just ufotable attempting to make a cooking show. Monthly episodes where all the characters from Fate/Stay Night gather to eat a meal and have a quite boring chit chat. We all know from Fate/Stay Night that Shirou was an excellent cook but to turn it in a cooking show was a decision way off. They describe the recipes step by step for you to almost follow along if you have all these locally bought ingredients outside of Japan or do the research what alternatives there are for it. They also know each other and the Holy Grail War never occured so they are all 'friends' living normal suburban lives. So dialogue is out of the question right ? Nah they attempt to make it interesting.

TLDR: THERE ARE SO MANY BETTER ALTERNATIVE COOKING SHOWS
