The Rising of the Shield Hero

Jul 9, 2019

Great first episode followed by a full-throttle plunge into mundane shounen mediocrity. Unfortunately I held onto the hope that it'd turn itself around later into the season, it didn't. By the time I wanted to stop, I figured I was too far in to not know how it ended. Watching the last 7 episodes at 2x playback speed was the only way I was able to suffer through it, glad to know I never need to watch another episode after its last. Such squandered potential. Characters turned out all to be generic cardboard cutouts with minimal development. Maximum plot armour with zero... See full review

Colorful (2010)

Apr 20, 2017

Complete mumbo jumbo dysfunctional feel-good (at least it tries to be) nonsense, with a garbage message that thinks itself wise but on closer inspection actually solves nothing plus entrenches one's egoic dysfunctions further. ::::::::CONTAINS SPOILERS::::::::::: I'd say 90% of the movie is simply cringe-worthy with a loser-type main character interacting with other equally awkward characters in attempts to blame the world and justify their situations. The main character behaves judgementally and egotistically with no reprecussions. Unskillful behaviors 24/7. His family supplies him with food... See full review

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Never before had I seen such an uplifting anime about the power of courage and dedication to your peers. Reviewed after finishing all episodes. While I initially thought it to be a typical dumb action mecha shounen series, its dialogue and beautiful animation-style simply hooked me. I guess the best part about this series is that behind all its overly-exaggerated content is a very important message: to believe in yourself ...not. But to actually BELIEVE IN THE ME THAT BELIEVES IN YOU! This quote literally blew my teenage mind from when I watched it. It made me realize that many people are unable to... See full review

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom

Dec 27, 2015

How lucky was I to have stumbled across this gem. Reviewed after finishing all episodes. Disguising itself as a typical mafia-related action anime, this series was actually an in-depth, close-to-the-heart story about the loss of identity and its psychological consequences on people. While not as dark and explicit as Gantz in its portrayal of human nature, it was an emotional roller-coaster witnessing the main character's life and his pursuit of freedom. Accompanied with gorgeous music by Kokia and finishing with a beautiful ending that left me overwhelmed and in a daze, this series definitely made a deep... See full review

Shiki

Dec 27, 2015

Hear me out. Reviewed after finishing all episodes. Don't waste your time with this garbage series, or as one of my friends who also finished this series told me - "I wanted to die after watching it." This anime is boring, real boring, slow, and very, very frustrating. When you mix boring and slow, the effects are amplified ten-folds. Aesthetic Qualities: Top notch. Very high production values. Too bad the story was utter shit though. You could very well just watch the first few episodes to know who's who, and then skip all the way to episode 20 without missing anything of value. By the end... See full review

Birdy the Mighty: Decode

Dec 27, 2015

One of my all-time personal favorites. A very under-appreciated series. Reviewed after finishing both seasons.  Wow. What can I say? Watching this got me back in touch with what anime is really all about. Originality, Fun, Story, Depth, Creativity, and most importantly, Excitement. I don't know how else to explain this. Maybe it's not an exaggeration to say it healed my soul. haha. This is top tier stuff. These were characters I really cared about, which is the number one reason I love this anime. Each are unique in their own right, and there's just something so wonderful oozing out of all of them... See full review

Jormungand: Perfect Order

Dec 27, 2015

Now THIS is what a War anime should be like. Reviewed after finishing both seasons. For anyone who've seen the movie on arms dealing 'Lord of War' and have enjoyed it, you have an obligation to watch this anime. For anyone else who's tired of typical shounen junk but still want the fun and excitement of it all, you also have an obligation to watch this anime. If you're a gun nut, it goes without saying. Characters are original and non-generic, mostly very skilled in their own specialized field- none of that expert-at-everything bullshit you see nowadays. You will not get any whiny losers here, thank god... See full review

Akame ga Kill!

Oct 8, 2014

Fun to watch but you're not going to learn a single damn thing. Reviewed at ep 14. For people new to anime, sure go ahead and watch it, you'll prob find it rather entertaining. For everyone else who's sort of past that stage of watching pointless badass animes, this is not for you. Everything is generic - all the characters, all their back stories, all the superpowers, all the deaths, all the doki doki romance, and all the inaction regarding said romance. Sure, Esdeath is totally badass in the most OP way (the 'cheapest' way to make someone badass) and completely and illogically in love with the main... See full review
