Spriggan (2022)

Mar 3, 2023

I'm on episode 3 right now so I'll update as I continue watching. This is a very average anime. Nothing is truly bad about it, but there's nothing exceptional to it at the same time. The plot line seems very generic and kind of predictable after the first episode. There seems to be a few key points that are repeated every episode, not in any specific order: a new "piece" is found as well as a new artifact, ARCAM sends Yu on a mission for the discovered artifact, then another country intervenes and tries to take it for themselves, but ARCAM/Yu somehow always make it out in the end, usually with... Jiok

Note: I was only able to find part 1 after a while of looking for part 2 The animation style was not my favorite, but it seemed to try to look more "real" than "cartoon". The plot was pretty interesting, but kind of trippy and thought provoking as well. I actually watched it twice to really make sense of it, but it's a decent story overall.  I really wish I could find part 2, but I don't think it's available in the USA unfortunately. I feel like watching the second part would really round out the story, as the title says "two kinds of life" and I'm guessing it has to do... See full review

Lookism

Jan 4, 2023

This is from someone who never read any of the manga, so I'm not able to compare the two.  Plot-wise I am a bit confused. The beginning of the anime led me to believe this would go in a fighting story kind of direction - with the MC getting his new body and fighting others to become the head of the school or whatever, then at some point getting revenge on his old bullies. Then suddenly in episode 6, the plot did a sharp turn and is suddenly idol training. I guess there were hints, with the MC humming occasionally and his mom saying how good of a singer he was in one of the first epsiodes, but it... See full review

Odd Taxi: In the Woods

Nov 6, 2022

If you haven't watched Odd Taxi, I think it would be fine to just watch this movie. This movie just goes through the original plot quick (4.5 hour anime into a 2 hour movie) and bridges over some of the character interactions. If you're interested in the actual story, Odd Taxi is definitely worth the watch though. This movie is meant to fill in some of the plot holes and answer some of the questions from the original anime. The story is the same, the main difference is that along with a more concise version of the original anime, the main characters are interviewed to get some of their direct... See full review

Aesop's Fables

Oct 24, 2022

I really enjoyed this movie. I have to say I didn't like Aesop much, even thoughout the character growth, but he was less obnoxious at the end at least. Other than him, I enjoyed the other characters.  Ultimately I enjoyed how there were a few of the lessons that I recognized (e.g. the boy who cried wolf and tortoise and the hair). While I didn't recognize most of the others, I easily understood the lessons that they taught. I wish they could make a remastered version, as the one I saw looked and sounded like it came from a VHS tape. Side note: I really liked the way Silkwing's wings became the... See full review

The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter

Jul 5, 2022

Overall this anime was really average in my mind. To be completely honest, I watched this while playing games on my phone. I tried sitting and watching, but it just seemed kind of cringy to me. An average guy somehow how some hot chicks and pervy incidents are always happening for him. I think my least favorite part were the fight scenes. The one that really stood out to me was the one with the phantom theifs. The battle looked really lame and when if was over I was just glad to move on from it. Nothing about this anime has caught my interest and I ended up rating it and average 3/5 stars.

Thousand Autumns

Feb 4, 2022

It took me a month to finish this due to getting sidetracked, but I finished the last 7 episodes in a day and I was really into it.  I started this because I was in a general BL binge kind of mood and it gave me so much more than I was expecting. The main characters Yan Wushi and Shen Qiao were so cute together. Shen Qiao overall was just cute, pretty powerful too, but super cute. I loved his personality, it really fit him and I loved that he stuck to his beliefs even after all he went through. Yan Wushi was that kind of kind asshole. He really seemed to like Shen Qiao and their interactions were so... See full review

Beastars

Dec 2, 2021

So I was given this anime for Secret Santa 2021, and I had been ignoring it beforehand due to the main characters being humanistic animals. I wasn't expecting much and I hadn't really read the synopsis, but ended up really enjoying this one. I'm normally not a fan of CG animation, but I don't find this one too bad. I think my favorite parts are when Legoshi goes into his thoughts and it's just him and the background dims out. Along with this, the character development was super interesting. I really want to find out who the killer is though, it's mentioned in the synopsis, but didn't seem to be a... See full review

The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me?

Oct 8, 2021

Story: My main issue is that there seems to be a lot of time skips. I don't know if it's because I read the manga, but I feel like a lot is missing and when he arrived at the academy and the other students were talking about his scores, I was questioning whether I missed an episode. Also, between episodes there seems to be another large timeskip and I almost want to go back to the manga and see what happened in that time, which I feel should not be needed in an anime. Animation: My only complaint is that I'm not a big fan of CGI animation. Sound: This is one that has been driving me crazy. I'm watching... See full review

Noragami

Jul 28, 2021

My main issue with this anime was the characters. I was annoyed with 2 of the main characters throughout the majority of the anime. Hiyori kept trying to jump into situations and just made them worse for Yato when she really doesn't have any need to be apart of the Far Shore world, which she understands so little of and then makes all these bad assumptions of Yato. Also, I get that Yukine was meant to be an angsty teen, but it annoyed me that Yato had told him time and again that his "sinful" thoughts and actions affected Yato physically, yet he kept putting himself and his wants first, with... Welcome to Irabu's Office

Jul 12, 2021

It took me a little while to get used to the anime style as it encompasses a few different styles all at once, but it fit the story very well and I believe enhanced it as well. The story itself took me a few episodes to really understand as each episode occurs within ~2 weeks before Christmas. Each episode is based on one character and their illness, but at the same time, throughout the episodes characters from previous or future episodes appear in it and by the end of the anime, everything comes together and the stories build upon one another. Overall, I found this anime very interesting and will probably... See full review

Try Knights

May 16, 2021

I haven't finished the season yet, I'm only on episode 4, but it's getting kind of hard to watch. The animation itself is not the best. There are also weird 3D parts when there is an action or panned out view of the characters playing. I feel like the faces are the only thing that are drawn reasonably well at times, but the bodies are usually out of proportion of look like an ameteur drew them. They also don't really look like rugby players. Everyone is slim and while they have well-toned muscles, that usually isn't the case for the front of the team, they're usually more hefty or beefy. The plot itself... See full review

The Titan's Bride

Sep 19, 2020

The whole thing just seemed rushed and kind of cliche. There were time skips that seemed to jump over part of the plot to the point that I thought I skipped an episode in between. The characters didn't really seem to "develop", they were strangers then suddenly are in love, not much in between.
