why I dropped you

every anime I dropped, with episode count (sorry for the entries with no description, I've let the list slide but it's being updated)
1 100% Pascal-sensei (2017)

100% Pascal-sensei (2017)

2/25

painfully unfunny

2 18if

18if

4/13

an interesting idea boringly executed. for a superior 'teenage girls' problems solved' psychedelic anime there's Onyankopon

3 3x3 Eyes

3x3 Eyes

2/4

if I were a child in the 90s I'd like this anime

4 Ace Attorney

Ace Attorney

4/24

the mysteries are not presented well. that's all I care about in a mystery solving anime

5 A Certain Magical Index

A Certain Magical Index

19/24

I almost made it to the end, but the tropes, damn, they're sucking out my will to live. I wish that was my superpower, actually - immunity to anime cliches

6 Active Raid

Active Raid

2/12

I really wanted to like it, hoping for a sort of Patlabor meets Psycho-Pass. alas, where those two had interesting characters who meshed as a team and were stand-out sci-fis, this was an all-over-the-place anime lacking charm

7 AD Police

AD Police

4/12

lame and watered down compared to the OVAs

8 Aho-Girl

Aho-Girl

1/12

I remember back at school there were pupils who couldn't help giggling every time the biology teacher said 'sexual reproduction' (in the days before internet porn, yo). this strikes me as having just as sophisticated a level of humour

9 Akame ga Kill!

Akame ga Kill!

5/24

I was quite enjoying the edginess until it got all harem-y on me

10 Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor

1/12

they couldn't even be bothered to give everyone consistent in-world outfits. fuck this anime

11 Akiba-chan

Akiba-chan

1/10

was it a nightmare where I was trapped in a totalitarian regime of cuteness? no, it was just the 1st episode of Akiba-chan

12 Akiba's Trip: The Animation

Akiba's Trip: The Animation

1/13

a good looking but very dumb show. keep your clothes on, love

13 Alice & Zouroku

Alice & Zouroku

1/12

poor attempt to pull at my heart strings

14 All Out!!

All Out!!

1/25

a middle of the road sports anime when there are so many awesome sports anime

15 Armitage III Dual-Matrix

Armitage III Dual-Matrix

within 15mins I felt it was not as good as the original

16 Astro Boy (1963)

Astro Boy (1963)

4/193

I really enjoyed the first 3 eps (Astroboy is a great character) but it's very much a 60s anime: with outdated humour and for children

17 Attack on Titan: Junior High

Attack on Titan: Junior High

7/12

amusing but not funny enough to sit through the entire series

18 Bananya

Bananya

2/13

Mitchiri Neko is better

19 Bartender

Bartender

6/11

I really liked the drinks trivia but that's about it. a Sobranie cigarette would enhance the mood

20 Birdy the Mighty: Decode

Birdy the Mighty: Decode

2/13

there's too much highschool in my Birdy. dope animation though and Birdy's design is gorgeous

21 Black Butler

Black Butler

2/24

I thought this is popular because it's good. I was wrong.

I didn't like the comic relief characters, listening to the ''''British'''' accents is true suffering and putting up with BL tropes without any actual BL is just sad

22 Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond

Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond

6/12

series 1: I have a plot and it's a big deal, just you wait till series 2, here's some filler

series 2: bruh, bruh, check me out bruh, ain't I cool bruh

23 Bloodivores

Bloodivores

3/12

made with the finesse and software available at the time of Mortal Combat

24 Blood Lad

Blood Lad

3/10

it started with fun and energy but soon it became clear that this is the kind of anime where the boys have personalities and the girls have tits

25 Blue Exorcist Movie

Blue Exorcist Movie

Virdelet said everything I was gonna say but better, so just read his concise review

26 Blue Gender

Blue Gender

8/26

oh it starts out so well: genuinely high-stakes suspence, Yuji is struggling with his moral compass and how to adapt to the new reality, all the sci-fi elements work well.

but then: to show he's a 'nice guy', they have him take care of a little girl. wow *eyes roll* what unique character development, only a complete monster wouldn't empathise with a helpless child.

then there's the Pocahontas arc *eye rolling intensifies*.

overall, the series spends too much time on Yuji's penis feelings and I couldn't wait anymore for the aliens' origins to be revealed, which is what drew me in in the 1st place

27 Body Jack: Tanoshii Yutai Ridatsu

Body Jack: Tanoshii Yutai Ridatsu

boring school bullshit at the beginning, skipped to the sex scenes and they were tame. as a lover of oyster diving, I bemoan the dearth of grown-ups in GL. if I were attracted to little girls, anime would have me covered. very covered

28 Bonjour♪Sweet Love Patisserie

Bonjour♪Sweet Love Patisserie

2/24

this blew so much kira kira fuwa fuwa in my face, that I felt disoriented. when the dust cleared, there was no substance to this anime. also, no fucking patisserie. I actually find most harems grotesque and vapid

29 Bonobono

Bonobono

2/48

bullying is played for laughs, which is bizarre in a children's show

30 Bonobono (2016)

Bonobono (2016)

I watch children's anime to learn Japanese, but the rudimentary dialogue bores me after a while

31 Boogiepop Phantom

Boogiepop Phantom

9/12

I just can't warm up to light-novel adaptations where everyone takes themselves so seriously. the characters are full of affectations, and I'm not impressed by the non-linear storyline either. yeah, I disliked Baccano and Kara no Kyoukai as well. I'm a one wolf wolfpack and that's how we roll

dropped twice

32 Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040

Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040

6/26

hardsuits with heels. because they're ladies, get it? fuck this anime

33 Bungou Stray Dogs

Bungou Stray Dogs

4/12

like Kekkai Sensen but less fun and with shit humour

dropped twice

34 Calligraffiti

Calligraffiti

35 Casshan

Casshan

6/35

this has a very strong beginning but suffers from having to fill the middle eps without plot progression; many series in the old days were like that

36 Casshern Sins

Casshern Sins

21/24

I have never felt so disappointed by an anime in all my life. it has the most beautiful character designs and background art, with perfectly-fitting atmospheric sound design but, oh my fuck, the dialogue is the most self-regarding, pseudo-philosophical drivel I have ever heard, spouted by pretentious characters moping about the crumbling lanscape.

the dub is insufferable because they decided what would fit the tone of this gloomy anime is high-pitched cute-girl anime voices, with sexy sighs and heavy breathing.

yes, it is possible to make a great post-apocalyptic, 'gaze into the distance and ponder your existence', long series where nothing happens. Texhnolyze did it and it was brilliant! watch eet

37 Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas

Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas

2/12

fantasy cliches galore

38 Chaos;Child

Chaos;Child

6/12

I completed Chaos;Head out of fascination at what a bewildering clusterfuck it was at the time. now, a few iterations of the franchise later, and familiar with the formula, Chaos;Child feels like a boring every-harem

39 Charady no Joke na Mainichi

Charady no Joke na Mainichi

2/365

kill it with fire

40 Chargeman Ken!

Chargeman Ken!

10/65

infamous entertaining garbage. mileage varies

41 Cheating Craft

Cheating Craft

1/12

ep. 1 was fun, had an interesting premise well executed. I still had a feeling it was going to go the way of most battle shounen, following the formula to the letter

42 Children of the Whales

Children of the Whales

3/12

SPOILERS

I was repeatedly taken out of the magical setting by the incredibly dumb decisions made by characters because the plot wills it, like: have the attackers heard of basic military strategy? shouldn't the girl warn a nation that they're about to be exterminated instead of watching a fucking light show? don't worry, the attackers are going to pull out before accomplishing their mission - why - because melodrama between characters needs to happen. mind you, this is just 1 example

43 Chou Yuu Sekai: Being the Reality

Chou Yuu Sekai: Being the Reality

1/20

more highschoolers fighting shit. it's probably one of those where they diligently attend school as the world goes to fuck around them, just so they can face plant into each other's privates. fuuuuuuuuuu NOPE

44 City Hunter

City Hunter

3/51

the show is very well put together: the art is lovely, so is the sound, it's very tightly paced, making the jokes land well. but the molestation is too immersion-breaking and I'm referring to 1 particular punchline in each episode: when Ryou scares the living lights out of his recently-bereaved client by breaking into her house to touch her up 'for research purposes'. and she continues employing him! could they really not have found a better source of ecchi humour? Golden Boy did it and it was awesome! fuck this, I'm watching Cat's Eye instead

45 ClassicaLoid

ClassicaLoid

2/25

male bashing and a glaring lack of epic music

46 Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun

Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun

1/12

OCD or mysophobia aren't explored in a meaningful way and it's not funny enough either

47 Cleopatra

Cleopatra

a bit like Pictures at an Exhibition, but 2h long and with tiddies

48 Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~

Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~

1/12

I don't fancy any of the guys and don't identify with the passive damsel either, which I suppose is the point in these kinds of anime. you'd think she'd be a bit more enthusiastic about seeing the outside world after so much time spent in confinement. and all the characters look like their outfits were picked by the same individual, they are so matchy-matchy it's distracting

49 Corpse Party: Tortured Souls

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls

1/4

the kind of horror where people die because they make incredibly dumb decisions

50 Cutey Honey

Cutey Honey

2/25

only interesting from a historical point of view. this is basically Devilman with up-skirt shots

imagine dropping nichijou bc of that lsdmkskj

Zcse May 29, 2020

Preferred reading your critiques to watching the actual shows 😂🤣🤣

But, seriously, agreements or disagreements aside, can we just appreciate this for the comedic art that it is? When i saw that 80 and 232 (Fruits Basket & Wallflower) had the same criticism, I died 😭😭🤣🤣 Genius, Stela. Pure genius. (PS: I loved both those shows/reads, but do acknowledge the identical tropes in them; as well as in like almost every single shoujo anime/manga lol. I do recognize its flaws, but I still like the genre)

animelurv May 10, 2020

I like your descriptions on these, even if i don't agree with them all, They're hillarious :'D

Stela May 1, 2020

I expressed myself poorly. What I meant was: the anime is below par and because I didn't play the game, I'm not already invested in the characters & plot so I don't care about completing it.

FirstnamLastname Apr 30, 2020

You dropped Resident Evil 4D Executor because you didn't play the game so you don't care? I didn't play the gane but I really liked, I loved the ending.
