My Roommate is a Cat

Feb 4, 2022

There's not enough of this type of warm-hearted series, and I want more of Haru and Subaru! The style of swapping viewpoints between the cat owner (Subaru) and the human owner (Haru) is very interesting and refreshing and I find the voice actors and actresses are spot-on. I want more!

Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits

Dec 1, 2020

I don't understand the hatred towards this anime. I stumbled over this anime two weeks ago when I was looking for any jidaimono (period drama) anime on Anime Planet. It was recommended to me because I love Natsume’s Book of Friends. Out of curiosity (and because I like Kakuriyo’s visual & period-setting), I checked it out. SPOILERS AHEAD! Kakuriyo isn't set in the Edo period despite the costumes. However, it is set in a parallel dimension called the Netherworld or Kakuriyo, a dimension where ayakashi live. We know the basic story: the girl Aoi was promised to be the bride of the Oni... See full review

Otogi Zoshi

Unexpectedly, I love this anime! I watched it after finishing Dororo 2019, desperately looking for a period drama anime for I find them very appealing.  I wasn't hooked with this anime the way I was hooked with Dororo since the first episode. However, slowly, the Heian pace and speaking style captivated me, such that I now think highly of the characters' extremely polite manner of speaking.  Anyway, halfway through the Heian chapter, I already suspected who the main villain was, but as was with Hikaru, I unexpecedly got broken hearted when the truth was revealed. Hence, I welcomed the Tokyo... See full review

The Great Passage

Mar 21, 2020

Beautiful anime! As someone who is learning Japanese and trying to understand more about this language, this anime gives me a lot of beautiful lessons about Japanese dictionaries. Not just about the type of paper (yes! papers!) suitable for dictionaries, but also how why words (in this case, kanji & kana) are important in the Japanese culture. Below paragraphs have some spoilers, so... SPOILERS! SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!! I do have some nitpicks, particularly the chibi insertions that don't always translate to non-JP audience, unless further explained. One of the chibi scenes that are easy... See full review

Gingitsune: Messenger Fox of the Gods

Nov 2, 2019

I do have a soft spot for the relaxing anime like this. It's not a lot of conflicts, but when we have them, it's real and not dramatised to make it unbelievable. And the heralds are too cute to ignore, and who can resist a grumpy kitsune herald who is voiced by Miki Shinichiro who also voiced Hijikata Toshizo in Hakuouki? The anime seems to be set in Kyoto, which also makes me missing that town... Oh, and I like it how at the end they make Makoto and Gintaro friends without any sexual innuendos. Speaking of innuendos, I reduce one star because Yoshitomo touched Makoto's rears and I really think that's... See full review
