SPY x FAMILY 2nd Season

Jan 17, 2024

[Vague Spoilers/Allusions] For me, it's better than season 1 part 2 but not as good as season 1 part 1. I lost interest in season 1 when they started focusing more on the school, so it was a relief that this season focused more on the family dynamic. It is getting old that only Anya knows everyone's secrets. There isn't really a good reason why she and Yor can't be on the same page at least, and Bond adds to that frustration because he can't communicate at all. The ED is miles better than the OP. While the animation looks amazing in some places, I feel like it may have decreased in quality a bit... See full review

Kemono Jihen

Feb 25, 2023

Pretty solid. It doesn't do anything particularly different or unique, but it does what it does well. The show could benefit from a more interesting antagonist, but it's generous in the development given to secondary characters. Good intro and outro, but the music during the show isn't noteworthy. The dub voicing is good, too. Animation was solid, but there weren't any "wow" moments. There were a few leaps in logic that were too big for me to ignore (ex: an AI being absurdly OP), but it's thankfully kept to a minimum. Definitely looking forward to a second season... 8/10

I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss

Dec 20, 2022

There are some major pacing issues, but it's decent. Good to have on in the background. If this were spaced out across two or three seasons, it would've been fine. But with everything rushed, each emotional moment feels underwhelming, and it's hard to gauge how much time has passed in between arcs. Some of the characters are interesting, but no one gets enough development, despite the relatively large cast. But it's fine overall. Rewatchable and moderately entertaining with decent animation... 6/10

The Way of the Househusband: Part II

Dec 22, 2021

The premise of this show got old VERY quickly. Once you know what to expect, every short becomes predictable. You're left letting your eyes gloss over the screen, wondering when something new or interesting will happen. The best segments are by far the cat's POV because that's the only time the anime leaves you guessing what will happen next. Shows like Saiki K at least have interesting plots, character development, arcs, varied comedy, etc. This show just offers the premise of a gangster househusband and little else beyond that. Season 1 was fine as something quick to watch. Season 2, being more of the... See full review

Eden

May 30, 2021

Light/vague spoilers: This is more like a Disney cartoon than an anime. Definitely aimed at kids 12 and under. Netflix needs to take a break from anime and reevaluate its approach. None of the recent Netflix original anime series have been above average, and Eden is no exception. Story: It's only 4 episodes, so the story development is poor, and the pacing could use some work. The tags and decription on this site should be changed. I went in thinking this was going to be a cute child-raising anime with dark undertones and good world-building like Somali and the Forest Spirit. Instead, I was met... See full review

King of Thorn

Jan 17, 2021

I don't even know what to say about this one. It started off as one thing and ended as something completely different. If oyu're looking for a pandemic survival anime, this ain't it. If you looking for something that makes sense, this ain't it either. Best to watch this when you're just looking to fill time with something aciton-filled. Just make sure to turn your brain off beforehand. The animaiton kept randomly switching to CGI. Looked awful whenever it did. The English dub was rewarding due to the accents. Characters are all right but ultimately don't matter in the end. Plot is just a big mass of... See full review

Noblesse

Jan 1, 2021

LIGHT/VAGUE SPOILERS Everyone else's criticisms are completely true, so I won't repeat. All I'll say is that I really wanted to lke this anime. The trailer and excitement from fans of the webtoon made me think this was going to be the best anime of the season. I liked the first few episodes despite being confused about what was going on and the characters' objectives. That was because I assumed everything would be explained later. It wasn't. I tolerated the annoying, unoriginal characters because I assumed they would get more development or have a greater purpose in the story later. They didn't for the... See full review

The Day I Became a God

Dec 27, 2020

A lot of potential that was never met. A lot of quesitons that were never answered. Characters you have to force yourself to try to care about. So many plot holes. It's like it tried to be a little bit of Haruhi Suzimiya mixed with Clannad/Charlotte/Kanon mixed with a typical "summer break in high school" anime while also trying to seem "deep" and "psychological" but actually coming across as embarassingly shallow and formulaic. Not the worst anime, no. But I promise you, if you've seen the anime I've mentioned above, you've already seen this. It does what those... See full review

Wise Man’s Grandchild

Dec 8, 2020

This anime would have been a 7-8/10 if it weren't for the fan service and the generic, cliche "romance". Protag likes girl because she's pretty. Girl likes protag because he saved her from some thugs. That's it. That's what they're entire "love" is based on. It'd be one thing if it were just a crush that was in the background, but the anime keeps SHOVING IT IN OUR FACES until there's a generic, cliche, boring confession that made me literally roll my eyes. And the fan service is just as generic and cliche. Bouncing tits? Check. Having female characters fondle each other naked? Check... See full review

Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 2

Nov 30, 2020

LIGHT/VAGUE SPOILERS The charm of this anime, the whole thing that hooked me into giving it a try, was the prospect of a book lover entering a world without books and working hard to create her own. This second season all but threw that focus out the window in favor of a typical fantasy isekai. Everything that made this anime unique was shoved aside, and now, it is barely distinguishable from the countless other isekai and "peasant enters noble society" fantasy anime. And honestly, the world building isn't even that good. I don't feel intrigued by the world or desperate to learn more. We only... See full review

Dog & Scissors

Nov 25, 2020

After 5+ years, I finally managed to force myself to finish these 12 episodes. After the first few episodes, this anime loses all its charm and just becomes an unfunny, reptitive filler. It's not outright horrible because it at least has characters with personalities (as 1-dimensional as they might be) and occasionally has a plot (as absrud or forgettable as it may be). This anime is nothing more than a time waster. The animation is average. The music is generic enough to forget about it immediately. Voice acting is average at best. Characters are below average. Plots are almost nonexistentent... See full review

Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World Season 2

Nov 7, 2020

LIGHT/VAGUE SPOILERS!! This is such a step down from season 1 (which was by no means perfect anyway, but I had hope that the following season would improve upon its weaknesses). I honestly don't even want to talk about all the things wrong with this season, but I'll highlight a couple. Best girl? Gone. Exposition? You get the most confusing, pretentious, word salad mega-chunks of exposition...that don't even really explain. The characters? They're all worse this season. ALL of them! I can barely stand Subaru, which brings me to the next issue... Remember in season 1 when Subaru would have a breakdown, and... See full review

Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie 2: Pyramid of Light

Oct 14, 2020

I was expecting filler, but I was not expecting to be fighting to stay awake for the last 15 minutes. This was a uselesss movie. It BARELY had a plot (don't ask me what it is because I hardly remmember it despite having JUST  finished the movie), it had no character development, it's not even canon, and it actually goes against canon (the timeline in this makes no sense, it features a lot of cards we never see again, and the characters aren't quite right...spoiler: Yugi's friends--or at least Joey--never would have left him in that building, as we've seen evidenced before). The voices were...weird... See full review

Japan Sinks 2020

Aug 28, 2020

WARNING: This rambling review contains light spoilers, particularly for the first episode. No names or major plot points are spoiled in this review. This was honestly disappointing. I was expecting a thrilling survival story. Instead, I got emotional manipulation. Most of the characters I didn't care much about because we barely knew them. Why were we learning vital information about characters toward the END of the series? I spent 8 or so episodes wondering how one of the characters knew the others until it was casually alluded to. There was also some random cult arc shoehorned into the middle of the... See full review

Servamp

Nov 27, 2019

(Spoiler-free Review) What a painfully average anime. It had potential, but it thought far too highly of itself and kept trying to use anime tropes without understnading what makes those tropes successful. Story Such wasted potential. The idea behind it is good, but the execution is poor, especially the pacing. This anime tries for drama and fails. The only episode that I completely enjoyed was episode 10 when we see one of the characters' backstory. That episode is the only emotion I felt in this entire show. As far as what interested me, the internal dilemna of one of the main characters and the... See full review
