SPOILERS - Some brief mentions of AOT and PMMM as well

Honestly, I really enjoyed the first half of this anime. I thought the characters were fun, (a little one-note but still enjoyable) the stakes felt high, and I loved that basically anyone could be a magical girl. Businesswomen, moms, boys, lesbians you name it. That's what really made me like the show, in the beginning, was all the representation. However, once all these characters die in less than satisfying ways you're left with a boring, underdeveloped main character and an unsatisfying ending. I really debated dropping it after Winterprison died and I wish I would have.

Around half the cast is overtly likable but that half dies. Why are the most boring and one-note characters left alive? In Attack on Titan, they kill a lot of characters but at least they keep our core six alive so we have some people to focus on. In PMMM the girls die too but their deaths don't feel like meaningless torture porn.

This show would have been so much better if it focused on the characters with actually compelling stories. There could have been a lot explored with La Pucelle and his fascination with magical girls. Having to hide the thing he enjoys just because of his age and gender. Or they could have spent more time fleshing out Nana and Winterprison's relationship. They were by far my favorites and they would have made for a better deuteragonist.

Overall this anime is a good example of why it's so important to realize who your most interesting characters are. Sometimes your main character just isn't cut out to be a main character.
