Haha it's fine, I didn't have much of a Halloween either, just stayed home and watched football with my family. I was supposed to finish Another and Serial Experiments Lain because I figured they were good Halloween animes (one being horror and the other...just really mind screwy) but I haven't yet.

A 4500 WORD DISSERTATION?!? Wow, that's an intense class. And I thought my American history course was intimidating. I really hope you like the rest of Cowboy Bebop too! And happy early birthday too, I guess? Did you have any big plans for your birthday?

I do respect Nausicaa for the reasons you said, and I can't fault it on any technical level (I mean, the animation is great as usual for Ghibli.) I liked Nausicaa as a heroine a lot, but I can see what you mean by her being too perfect, since she didn't have any growing to do as a character (like Chihiro), and none of her character traits were flawed or called out in-story (like San.) I think Princess Mononoke was a more sophisticated and overall better take on the environmental message. I do however think that Nausicaa is a movie every anime fan should see once, and especially every Ghibli fan. I haven't head anything really good about Earthsea (I heard that it disappointed Miyazaki that he had a falling out with his son over it) so I don't plan on seeing it. Btw, your Castle in the Sky review was great! Agreed so much on animation especially - it is so fantastic and fresh, and the style of the setting I particularly loved, because it had little elements of steampunk and traditional fantasy meshed in.

Ya, I was surprised when I began siding with Mako when he would call Korra out, since I hated him for almost all of season 1; I was actually disappointed in the direction they took his character, since he was basically Batman + Zuko. One thing about season 2 I also liked was that they finally gave Bolin a bigger role - after he got left behind in the whole love triangle fiasco, the writers almost seemed to forget about him, and I was glad they seemed to be righting that wrong. If they improved Korra and made her more like she was at the end of season 1, I agree, the show would be improved as a whole.

I agree, I was fine with her behavior in season 1 because she was still developing the kind of restraint and whatnot that would make her a good avatar. And then at the end of the season, it looked she had matured and was finally able to accept the responsiblity required of being the avatar. And then season 2...nope. It's odd, but even though she's older than Aang was I feel like he was more prepared to become the avatar. And yah, she spams the avatar state a lot, for really unnecessary things, and it is dangerous to use too often; I mean, it's a defense mechanism, not something to make you able to beat children in a race. And aww, I loved Zuzu too haha. My favorites were probably Toph and Sokka, but really there weren't any characters I disliked in ATLA.

Yay! Castle in the Sky is great. My favorite Ghibli movies are probably Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away though, but of all the ones I've seen I enjoyed (except Nausicaa, which was boring until the last 30 minutes or so when every thing suddenly happened.)

I know, I want to buy an Appa plushie because of the bisons. They look so huggable! I loved Lin (Toph was my favorite from ATLA so of course...) and General Iroh too, but since they introduced Kaya and Bumi I felt like it wasn't a bad trade-off. I really want to see old Zuko, I'm dying to see them go to the Fire Nation. I haven't seen avatar Wan yet, but Korra felt really derailed in these episodes. All she did was misuse her avatar powers and snip at the other characters for trying to offer advice. Her excuses always seem to be "Well, I'm the avatar therefore I know better!" for everything too, it was disappointing because I liked her in season 1. :/

Ballad of Fallen Angels is probably where the show starts to pick up. The first few episodes are pretty slow and don't really hit on the big themes of the anime (except for the part with Faye in episode 3, that was totally badass.) I would say the two-part Jupiter Jazz or Jamming with Edward is a step forward too. And yes, I love Yoko Kanno. The Bebop soundtrack is one of my favorite anime soundtracks.
