One more thing: be sure to check out the Last Exile sequel, Fam the Silver Wing. If you didn't like the original, you will HATE the follow up. The main character is such a foolhardy brat it's embarrassing.
Hello, Sheex, thanks for the comment! Yeah, as you can see, I do NOT agree with the site's reviewers on this one (I remember even Sothis was surprised that another reviewer liked Earthsea). As for the behind-the-scenes drama, I touched upon it to the extent I deemed relevant. As I mentioned, I tried to give it a fair assessment without comparing it to his father's work, and even on its own merits I found it incoherent and dull. There's actually other points I could touch upon, like how Arren is able to live peacefully in the countryside when there should be legions of soldiers looking for the boy who committed REGICIDE. For what it's worth, I did not write the review just to shit on Goro, as I said I enjoyed his follow up, From Up on Poppy Hill a lot more (although, if what I've heard about Earwig and the Witch is to be believed...he's 1 for 3).
BTW, good to see you're back in the swing with your reviews! I suppose our greatest point of disagreement is with the Ancient Magus Bride, which as you can see on my profile is a personal favorite of mine (although, interestingly, you mentioned how the final quarter was the best part...I actually find it the weakes part of the season. Especially the finale, which resolved a conflict between the two main characters in a really slapdash way. I get Elias was trying to save Chise, and he clearly didn't fully grasp just how messed up his actions were, but still, you're gonna play their reconciliation for laughs?). Still a well-written review. Good to see you're back.
On that note, a series I want to get to some time is Fire Force, a disappointing follow up from the creator of Soul Eater that wastes its potential on groan-worthy fanservice and shonen cliches. See ya 'round!
I need drama and fairy-like in my romance. I'm not looking for a realistic view of it. That's one of the reasons I don't like slice of life. I really enjoyed Shirayuki-hime. I do hope there's a third season. I definitely want to read the manga, but it's ongoing so I'm waiting for it to finish. I don't like reading ongoing manga.
I didn't think about all of that when I was watching Orange. It's been a few years since I watched it so I don't remember much. Maybe I should rewatch it someday. I remember liking it a lot. It might be better if the story focus more on romance. It's still a good anime either which way. I will give your reviews a look when I have the time.
