Millennium Actress

Apr 6, 2013

Millennium Actress is a animated movie not many otaku's know about. Sure everyone has seen Studio Ghibli everything, but little is known about outside films. This one in particular. This was referred to me by a college art professor when I was young. I picked it up at a local Blockbuster (yeah that long ago) and was amazed by it. The wavering through time periods, movies, while still holding to the story line is a masterpiece. The art is simply fantastic, and it's honestly hard to get your eyes off of it. It's an inspiring piece of art, and you are really missing out if you have not seen it. This is a... See full review

Kaleido Star

Apr 6, 2013

All I can say is that Kaleido Star is one of the most under-rated, under-appreciated animes of all time. This anime came to me by accident, and I'm thankful for that miracle today. This is an awe-inspiring anime that is made to inspire you to follow your dreams and never ever give up! Sora is an amazing role model, and through every challenge she faces, you are there, wanting to cheer her on. The story itself I really enjoyed. The pacing is great and plot twists make it exciting to see what happens next. The animation isn't the best you've ever seen, but I do appreciate the animators for making the... See full review

Hamtaro

Apr 5, 2013

What is there to say? This is a freakin' "Adorable to the Max" anime.   I knew of Hamtaro before it was released to America. As a child of 12 or so, my friends and I set up our own "Ham-Hut" where we would pretend to be Hamtaro and friends, go on adventures, make drawings and eat sunflower seeds. Hamtaro is one of the many things that sparked my interest in anime when I was still a child. As an adult, my heart still goes out to the Ham-Ham crew. Even if the story and animation are simple, the cuteness of all the characters do start to tug at your heartstrings. From the... See full review

GANTZ

Apr 5, 2013

GANTZ is one of those animes that no matter how hard you try, you will never forget nor want to forget even if you didn't like it. Even through all the violence and sex, the ideal of it is still intriguing to the thought. What does happen when we die? Are we given a second chance? If so, what will we have to do to get it? And since our protagonist isn't the usual prince charming, we can relate to him more since he's a person from all sides, wither is violent, perverted, or just down right evil. Other than a great story, the art and music are amazing as well. Gives a very realistic depth to a very... See full review

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu

Apr 5, 2013

This is one of my topies for animes. It is the perfect blend of comedic romance that throughly enjoy. It is an anime that most 5 year+ vets know of and have seen. Wither you're a fan of comedy, action, romance, or even randomness, you will love every moment of this series. (Sorry for you drama and horror types. :X ) Chidori's outgoing personality clashing with the super-serious Sousuke makes for a wonder of classroom hilarities.  My single and gripe is that the two never fully come together at the end, but I acknowledge that this is just a silly side series to the original Full Metal... Excel Saga

Apr 5, 2013

Oh boy... this is an anime that defines random, or so it seems. A lot of the anime was just inside jokes from the creators, but even so, it leaves us laughing and cherishing the silliness it brings. I would say this is a classic anime. Everything from the music to the art style is older-fashioned. If you are a true fan of randomness like Azu Manga Dioah, or Pani Poni Dash, you'll probably enjoy this wacky series. ***Warning! The opening song is very catchy! Don't be surprised if you try to sing to it eventually.  <iframe width="420" height="315"... See full review

D.N.Angel

Apr 5, 2013

This is an old, yet sweet anime that has been in my heart since the beginning. It was one of the first animes I watched and what helped me become the hard-core fan I am today. I would consider this anime a classic in the records. It's a sweet love triangle/box with a good , simple plot about thieving spirit who posses a child. It's nothing to break records or change your otaku life, but I would suggest seeing it for nostalgia's sake. It's a great beginner anime to help new anime fans become more addicted (because everyone is an otaku at heart. ;) )

Air Gear

Apr 5, 2013

This is an older anime, but it's on my top list of animes, even though the anime doesn't bring the justice that it gets in the manga. The reason Air Gear is great is mainly for the imaginative, yet possible self-projecting roller blades called AT's. It's something all children-at-heart wish to have and ride. The story revolving it is something like, "Who's the coolest skater at the skate park?" which there isn't much founded beyond, "ATs are the world." So there is no deep plot to this anime (even though it gets to such deep lengths in the manga) but that's not a downfall at all to... See full review

Hiiro no Kakera: The Tamayori Princess Saga 2

Apr 5, 2013

This anime has topped at one of my favorite animes, which is quite a feat seeing as how I have been watching anime for almost a decade now. This is a sequel, and what I think honestly is the actual story, to Hiiro no Kakera. If you have seen the first season, I am so sorry. If you haven't, then don't bother. Just learn who the characters are and what the plot is. I would suggest just taking a few minutes to read the wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiiro_no_Kakera) to save yourself from the boring first season. Alright, some things about this wonderful anime. It is based off an otome game (games based... See full review

Hiiro no Kakera: The Tamayori Princess Saga

Apr 5, 2013

This is a beautiful start of what is to be an amazing anime.  To really understand this anime, go into this thinking that it is all prequal to the real story which is Hiiro no Kakera: Dai Ni Sho (2). I would suggest watching the first 3 and the last 3 episodes of this series.  All you really need to know is the characters and the base plot.  After you got it, please watch the next Hiiro no Kakera season. It's anime you do not want to pass up just because the fist season was inferior.

Hakuouki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom

Apr 5, 2013

This is a well-done anime based off a great otome game. Even though the story starts like a first-person character story about Chizuru, it ends up being a second-person story where we just view what happens around Chizuru. This bothered me a little because Chizuru (as most female otome protagonists) was very shy and quiet, and showed little personality. We, as the audience, could of gotten more attached to her if we were able to hear her thoughts, or explanations to why she did or did not do things. That is my only little grip about it. The story does a good job in spreading out Chizuru's involvement... See full review

Hakuouki: Record of the Jade Blood

Apr 5, 2013

This was a good wrap up to the original series Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan. You should watch the first series before watching this, since this is a direct sequel to Hakuouki Sekkaroku. The presence of this anime takes after traditional Japanese stories in the sense of honor and pride on the battlefield. While to westerners it would be considered a tragedy, the characters endings were with great respect, so it helps you appreciate them even more so. Even if I wasn't really a fan of the way this ended, I know this was based off of fictional history and knew that it really couldn't of ended any other way... See full review

Amnesia

Apr 4, 2013

Amnesia was a really intriguing anime. The story was interesting, but oddly paced so it's easy to tell it was from a game. I still enjoyed the "transferring worlds" gimmick every episode. I would of given this a higher rating if it wasn't for the ending... Too many unnecessary events take place that really de-railed the plot. I think if they tried to pull a second season, they could of added more to it, but I don't think that was a possibility. The main heroine was annoying to me, as most female protagonists are in otome games to me. She was just too quiet for me to even care about. I know that... See full review
