Since the other review criticizes the character I feel the need to explain the plot a little. Yes the main female is pretty selfish, that's the point. The short is about modern society's relation to its past. The spirit can't function in our current world and the woman's attempts to integrate the past/spirit is damaging. Society must move forward first (shrine destruction) it's wrong to ignore the past and let it die (adoption), but keeping it around isn't good either (the rest), so we have to separate the past from modern life (end). It's just an unfortunate part of life that we have to just accept. The... See full review

Killing Bites

Apr 3, 2018

Why would you read a review of Killing Bites? Just look at the cover. Look at the synopsis. You'll know if you're interested or not by these two things. First off I’d like to say that this short had an audience when it came out. It participated in the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival 2004 and won the Jury's Special Award (second place). It also participated in an event hosted by Polar Circle, a group that “aiming for ‘extreme’ in each field, and aspiring for ‘center’ there without bias” according to google translate. So... Genius Party

Feb 14, 2015

What does “Akira”, “Macross”, “The Vision of Escaflowne”, “Angel’s Egg”, “Steamboy”, “Kiki’s Delivery Service”, “My Neighbor Totoro”, “Ghost in the Shell” “Perfect Blue”, “Cat Soup”, and “Cowboy Bebop” all have in common? Genius Party. Staff from all of those movies worked on this amazing film collective. This is one of the most thoroughly impressive things I’ve seen in both its stories and its art. All of the shorts are very abstract so don’t expect a... See full review
