"too old"
and not in a sense of animations, sound or other qualification normally regarded as dated
I am talking about old anime as in the average dated animes didn't use to have as much research, talent, thought put into as today(even though some of that talent and time is being wasted).
in a sense most people disregard it as "cliche" but it's a bit more complex and substance filled than that and I am really not trying to overblow it's just people tend to summarize things that are not worth the time/too complex for them to understand
same as stigmas.
with years people's taste changes but that's not the only thing that changes, as a whole the animation industry taste also was changed, improved one might say(since that's what they/we strive for, for different reasons).

remember how the use of catchphrases was cool? yeah me too but it was cool in a pump up action-filled series not in a gothic-styled anime at best it's cringe-worthy at worst it makes you think who the heck wrote this instead of watching this.

now I get it it's episodic and personally, I like episodic as much as I like an epic long tale or even a short action-packed story
and using the same formula is fine as long as the viewer doesn't notice it being episodic that's pretty much the motto but every single action the characters took got me unimpressed in the anime, even more, the solutions are plain and simple and I understand that not everyone thinks the same and those situations are plausible and definitely things people dealt and couldn't deal with taking other measures instead but the problem here is because it's episodic stacking so many "plausible" scenarios one after the other without any break in the formula is tiring, after 3 episodes I started skipping scenes cause they're recycled and normally the viewer wouldn't have noticed that if there were breaks in between the formula's episodes
kinda what "Gintama" is doing there is the main arch story/character development and the episodic nature of funny/goofy shit they do and the cohesion between the two when some of that goofy stuff carries over to the main story keeping you always on your toes which is an exaggeration made by the creator for the viewer and which really happened to the characters themselves(which is also where Gintama falls a bit but I don't mind for various good reasons).

and there are things like actions that you wouldn't typically see(and i am not talking about the "same" antagonists) that characters behave in are simply to drive the episode's story forward and yes I understand they most likely did that because the episodes are 20 minutes long and putting an entire story will lead to a lot of mishaps instead I would've liked them to take an approach from anime like "jing king of bandits" my favorite episodic anime where it's episodic but if the story requires it the anime won't shy away from making the story one to two episodes longer

all in all
this anime tried to cater towards young gothic girls in their teenager years
being dark but making the same mistakes as kids show where they can get away without logic or reasoning had they put more thought into this and stretched out the 20-minute episodes longer than it probably would've been a success instead of a nostalgia biased and hipster anime

honestly, I am disappointed in this, i didn't learn anything new i didn't have a laugh and i didn't shed a single tear.

Characters = old , animations= dated, sound= didn't notice it, story= was there one?

?/10 story
?/10 animation
?/10 sound
?/10 characters
4/10 overall
