You know how people say anime isn't just for kids? That doens't mean that kids' anime aren't made for kids. This anime is just that. It isn't bad it just isn't exactly something that will prompt any deep thought or stick with you if you are over 12. The animation is clearly for kids, the cutesy characters, the cheesy villains. It's a good kids show I'd have my kids watch but it isn't Avatar the Last Airbender which breaks down the wall between appropriate for kids and genuinely brilliant for all ages. Should you watch it? If you want to practice Japanese, want something fluffy, or you are a kid then go for... See full review
I've got to go against the grain here. I understand this is an incredibly popular series but personally, I don't see how it could be considered incredible let alone one of the all time greats. The story feels incredibly driven by coincidence. At 21 episodes in we don't even have an idea of who the emperor is, who the antagonist is, what Maomao wants in life (or anyone else), and the whole show just coasts along as a result. At this point we know that someone is out to kill someone for some reason and the only thing we know is who they want to kill which makes it hard to cheer for someone to beat this... See full review
I'm an avid fan of Spy Family, if you are too then you will enjoy this extension to the story. If you don't like Spy Family, you're a monster and this won't change your mind XD. The story does suffer from the same curse as many other anime movies in that it seems like the movie doesn't impact the core plot we've been watching very much. That said, it was awfuly fun to see the characters we know and love in a few new circumstances. The animation is on par with the show and fights are very fun. Anya's theme still makes me laugh. It's basically one long episode of Spy Family and that can never be a bad... See full review
This is the kind of show that we could use more of today. The characters are awesome. The fights are satisfying. The animation is dated but that doesn't bother you with how crazy the story is. This series deserves a remake. Worth watching if only just to escape from everything modern and drab.
See full reviewThis is a genre that's got to come back. The way that characters become absolutely bad-A through brief introductions is severely underrated. This OVA despite having aged in terms of animation and overall quality is a breath of fresh air in a sea of Isekai slop. Have some fun, give it a go!
See full reviewI'm very lucky to have been in Japan to see this in theaters. I'll let you know my thoughts. The movie is a good continuation of the series with the characters we know and love. While it doesn't have as big of a plot as some of the other entries, it wraps up several arcs in meaningful ways that lead to a satisfying conclusion. If you are a fan of the rest of the series this is a must see but don't go in with too high of expectations, just enjoy our friends. The animation, music, and voice acting are all done well. The moral isn't hitting you over the head. The movie was well worth the watch.
See full reviewThis movie is pretty good, better than most reviews have given it credit for. I would recommend it to anyone who has a spare evening. The story is simple, a little bit forced, but it ties together well with a good message brought home by real consequences. Tunnel to Summer is a story about Kaoru and and Anzu, a boy and girl who both lost something important to them in the past. The tunnel offers them a chance to get back what they have lost but at the cost of their own time in the present. While Anzu is able to realize that what she wants isn't the past but a future, Kaoru is unable to see the value in the... See full review
I loved the original series. The conflict was personal, it was the self. It made for a great story. I even felt like they treated depression well as something you grow despite its presence in your life. That felt like a great message. You can still have a meaningful life even if you have depression, there are people who care about you, and despite being hard, you can have meaning and help others. This new season ignores that whole conflict altogether and it sufferes as a result. The story problems are mostly due to how new characters are introduced and treated. Season 1, had the spotlight on our Magus and... See full review
This is undoubtedly the animated show of the year. It's been a while since a series has managed to combine competent characters, a gripping storyline, outstanding animation, a tantalizing mystery, and impeccable pacing like Link Click Season 2. Story: I'd love to delve into the story, but it's impossible without revealing significant spoilers. What I can say is that the narrative is nothing short of fantastic. In Season 1, we explored the implications of using these unique powers to peer into the past, and we knew something was amiss. In Season 2, we no longer have to guess what might be wrong as the... If you are trying to learn Japanese, this show is for you. You will never forget the word Megane again. This is a story between two awkward kids in Junior High who like each other. One regularly forget's her glasses and this allows the boy to help, thus starting the drama sketches! Story: There isn't any complexity it's just two people who are a bit awkward and occasionally cute together. It's pretty cookie cutter and you know exactly what will happen. Animation: The animation is weird sometimes. Sometimes it is good though. I actually like the character designs and the play of light. That said, the... See full review
My Happy Marriage is a Cinderella story with some politicking and supernatural powers added in. While it is great to have a show that isn't a self insert power protagonist like so much isekai today, the show isn't well written enough to be considered a great. Story: The story is the usual Cinderella idea. We follow Miyo who comes from a terrible childhood, mistreated by her stepmother, father and sister on account of not having powers. Kiyoka is selected for Miyo because no one thinks he will take her in. You guessed it, he does take a liking to her on account of her humility. On a whole the plot is fine... See full review
This is the epitome of an average show. The writing is ok, not amazing. The characters each slot nicely into their anime tropes, we have the tsundere, the Rei Ayanami type, and of course our very skilled (or lucky?) protagonist type. The animation is extremely colorful as is typical today. The plot is original enough to get an extra story point but the soundtrack is less ok and merits losing a point. If you want to get a baseline for comparing to other anime, I put this one in a similar, if slightly lower spot, than SOA. To appreciate the greats, this is good to see.
See full reviewThis has got to be the little known gem of the season. Is X&Y perfect? No. Is it better than most of what's come out this season? Heck yes it is. This show is a good slow burner and is very refreshing for the season. The scenes are a little more realistic, the characters are reserved and feel real, and the plot is sufficiently gripping. Story: This anime is about kidnapping, escape rooms, some drama, and a little bit of paranormal activity. Honestly, it has something for everyone. A few episodes feel slightly slow but overall, very good. Animation: In an age where every color is bright and cheery... See full review
TL;DR The show had such an interesting premise, it's a shame that the world building never occured and that the characters were never flushed out. This PowerPoint is rather dreadful. This show is a red, skip it. But go listen to the OP, it's good. Raeliana! A Japanese anime based on a Korean web comic about pho-European nobility squables. What do the nobility want? What dark secrets will be revealed? Who is scheming and what are their grand aspirations? Well hang on to your seats cause we won't be answering any of those questions. This anime is riddled with issues. To begin, the story, if you can call it... See full review
7 Episodes in, nothing has happened. Go listen to the OP anyway. Every episode is the same, new power (or use of charisma IRL), small problem, solves problem, becomes hero (again), another girl falls in love again. Story is non-existent. Animation, well some frames are animated I guess. Most often it is frozen in place with no movement whatsoever, except maybe a mouth when they can't avoid it. Sound, the OP is awesome. Nothing else stands out. Characters are dull, even the NPCs are unrealistic. The biggest problem is that the cast is only ever there for an episode. No one gets to interact with anyone... I'll keep this spoiler free but I'll assume that you've seen your name. I really wanted this movie to be good. I had high hopes for Shinkai to pull off something great so I watched 0 trailers and went in blind. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. There were several reasons for which I couldn't become invested in this movie and I'll be using your name. as a good example to compare. Story: This movie suffers from something called, events that don't impact the plot after they happen. The beginning sets up the stage well enough for us but what follows is a series of "one thing led to another" until... See full review
I was looking for a show I could watch without any thought of complexity but also no explosions. This turned out to be the ticket. The story of two high school students very slowly falling in love and being oblivious, awkward, and cute while at it. It was a sweet story. Watching this was just fun. There are some cringey moments throughout but that's what you sign up for when watching a high school romance. If you just want some cute, clean, not hard to think about show to watch then you could do a lot worse. There honestly isn't much to hate, not much to love either, just 13 episodes to enjoy. If you want... See full review
That was fun! Like the rest of the series, Scarlet Bond is another chance to go see Rimuru exercise his Saul like wisdom, and his super powers, to solve all the problems he encounters. If you like the series, this will go down smoothly. If you don't, it won't change your mind. I saw this in the theater with just one other person. Come on guys! If you want anime movies to come overseas you have to go watch them in theaters when they do! Rant over, on to the detailed review. Story: 6/10 The pacing feels off, we get backstory of one character for a while before discovering that his arc had already been... See full review
Skip this, it is a mediocre retelling of the story you know and love but through interviews. Seriously just go watch the show and your life will be infinitely better. I thought this would add a massive amount of information but it did not. You still here? Ok Ok... Here's what you do, watch the show, then watch the last 10 minutes of this. DONE!
See full reviewTL;DR A good show with an original premise that is well explored. Has some touching parts but is slightly held back by character tropes. This show does a lot of things right. It has an interesting and original premise. It explores its theme of expendible soldiers who are inhumanized very well. It even makes some efforts to enoble the people who inhumanized the expendible soldiers despite their many faults. The animation is from A1 pictures is gorgeous but do I really need to even say that? The story maintains a consistent tone throughout. It also has a few heavy hitting moments that merit a tear or... See full review

Honestly the show is just ok. I ended up dropping it because I became frustrated with the characters. The only intelligent one is Nana. That said, she doesn't act in a realistic way. ***Spoilers*** Killing and seeing death should profoundly change people psychologically. Here, no one is phased at seeing death. Children treat it like an everyday thing, then they worry about mundane things. To be simple, it doesn't work. If you want to see this story done better where lives matter and people deal with challenges, watch S1 of Neverland.
See full reviewDont' get me wrong. Just because I rated this so low doesn't mean you shouldn't watch it. If you want some fire in a pan from 1980's Japan, here it is! I literally rated it 1987 because that's when it came out. The animation is 1980s The "story" is 1980s The "sound" is from a video game The "characters" exist The whole thing is just a series of one things led to another that could make some great 30 second Youtube clips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzlZy9zpw0Q Go ... enjoy it?
See full reviewTruly meets and exceeds expectations. This story tells of personified gemstones who seek to find purpose together and striving against the Lunarians, beings who would turn them into decoration. The premise may sound odd but the way that the world is presented is brilliant, it doesn't feel the need to explain everything to the viewer in piles of exposition but does and excellent job of showing the world and all that it has to offer. Giving the world even greater depth and a great sense of wonder is the soundtrack which consistently goes above and beyond lending mood and tone to the series. Better than all... See full review
Ok... the premise of this show is that three girls, each with interchangable 1D personalities, all fall in love with a guy with an equally 1D personality and he falls in love with all of them... The target demographic is desperate men who have less than a 1D personality. I just wanted to see how bad the garbage fire would become. Pretty bad in fact. If that's what you're into though I won't criticize you as a person. Try SNAFU instead.
See full reviewAn interesting concept hampered by poor characters. Tomodachi Game is a high stakes game where a group of friends is encouraged to betray each other as often as possible for their own gain, in this case, millions of yen. The game is made to crack and fracture relationships and does just that. The issue is that the characters are not all that well written and the pacing is damaged by constantly showing us observers of the game who explain via hand holding exactly what is going on and why it should seem exciting. That kind of hand holding isn't needed. It certainly isn't a bad show, it just isn't very... See full review
In a word, pleasant. If you are tired of super high stakes, piles of fanservice that call themselves "romance" or just wishing you could relax a bit, then you should watch this show. The story is of changing life if you could. Our main character gets a chance to see what his life would be like had he made different choices. The results are not what he would expect. What this character does well is taking each new event in stride and trying to do the best in whatever circumstance he finds himself in. This pleasant lesson isn't forced on you either, it is simply there in the way he acts. Overall it... See full review
Long short: If you want to watch something fun with good writing and memorable characters then get started this is a great series. Watching this in 2021 is so refreshing. I really enjoyed watching this series. I had just barely seen parts of series airing this fall and I was disappointed by the writing and lack of real emotion in the characters, not to mention the overused harem tropes. I started Trigun at the perfect time. Trigun is a sci-fi but mostly western series that begins as a comedy and ends as a thriller. I see some reviews hammer the first few episodes as not having a tone that matches the... See full review
Your perfectly average Isekai in every way, this is reinforced by Rio looking like Kirito in the op, except that the MC is better written than most* (some). If that peaks your interest, give it a shot. The Isekai that I would first compare this to is Rising of Shield Hero because we have our fellow from another world treated like crap by those around him. The difference is that Rio doesn't turn so bitter. That is a really nice change in my oppinion. Also he goes with temorary harems... take that as you will. The story is fair so far. It isn't the most original premise. Character who comes from here uses... See full review
To Your Eternity is a great 12 episode series. I absolutely loved seeing how they developed an immortal character and showed how he changed with time and how he adapted to the dificulties of life. The characters are great and it is really touching. It will make you cry and tear at your heartstrings from episode 1. Unfortunately the show loses most of what made it good around episode 13 with the introduction of some rather annoying hatable characters. Don't let this steer you away though. Watch the first 12 episodes, enjoy it and then move on.
