Well now I finished it, it wasn't bad but it definitelly the themes could have been represented better. I think Ikuhara did better job in Mawaru about all these ideas. I got the meaning of the ending but I still had to read a lot to understand parts of the story. To be honest it wasn't that mindblowing to me and I didn't like the characters at all apart of Mikage. I don't consider myself close-minded and I really like weird and emotional strong anime but Utena didn't touch me that much....It definitley deserves all the praise it has but I still think it wasn't the best thing ever. I guess one of the reasons was, even tho it's special on it's own way, it still keeps some of the usual themes and influences of shojou magical anime, a genre that I really can't stand. So I guess this played a role as well.....I will now watch the movie which I heard is better and more confusing
Hello SadisticTendencies!! Don't know if you remember me but we spoke before! I'm currently watching Utena which I know is your fav anime! I'm really trying to like it but seriously if it wasn't Ikuhara's work I would have dropped it from the 5th episode! I'm waiting for the "shit going down" part to start but all I see is fillers and fillers...the animation style is really not my thing but I love psychologiacal anime, so please tell it's gonna be better T^T
I think if utena's taught us anything, it's 'screw gender roles' xD. And yes, you do need to watch trigun. The first half is a lot of fun and the second half... well, I won't spoil ^^. Though I haven't seen Escaflowne(sp?) as well so it looks like that's another one to add to my watch list. ^^
And sadly, I am a very broke student so it looks like I'll have figure out how to work my damn sowing machine and work on it myself. If I could only make decent shoulder pads...
Thank you, that means a lot to me! ^^ Thankfully, I've just finished my exams so I've promised myself to watch a lot more anime that I feel I should have already watched (I feel like the only person in the world that hasn't watched cowboy bebop yet) and I hope to write a lot more reviews as well! ^^
PS. On a side note, yay, someone adores utena as well! It's always been my dream to cosplay as her... sadly, I've only got the wig right now, but I'll get there soon! ^^
