School Rumble

A surprising comedy that has unfortunately been forgotten and hardly anyone talks about it anymore.

School Rumble" is a collection of generic characters who decorate their lives at school with many bizarre events, romances, and huge misunderstandings.

And this is exactly something the author has been relatively good at. Giving new air to worn-out and generic characters. Using old familiar scenarios and creating something new with his humor.

At first, I felt that the anime would not be convincing in the long run, since it was carried only by Harima, Tenma, and Karasuma. Only these 3 provided wit and atmosphere while the rest failed. But the others were well-integrated by later episodes, giving them more personality and character. Whether through humorous plots or actual stories and romantic drama.

[Story 3]

The plot of School Rumble is just as you would guess at the beginning. Just pure comedy. There are certain other developments on the part of events and characters, but these take place later and give the plot a bit more depth.

[Characters 5]

Boring, hackneyed, but still fascinating. You can see it again and again, even with generic and uncreative approaches, you can achieve results if you want to.

And here it was made possible. Tenma is the typical stupid character who can't get anything done, but her impulsive and misunderstood nature constantly creates questionable scenarios.

Harima, the prime example of "Beauty and the Beast, " is the school bully with a softcore behind his hard shell. Is the representation of all possible misunderstandings.

Karasuma, the absolute "normal" is so normal that it is practically abnormal. Which, by the way, gives his later character plot more depth.

Even the protagonist's sister is an interesting mix of an introvert and a Kudere, who tries to interact with people and avoid them at the same time.
The Tsundere probably has the greatest self-conflict with her character among the Tsunderes.

Most of the others still somehow hold their own and mostly provide gags, but have less personality.

Even though this is just a comedy, the characters have a respectable amount of personality for a comedy.

[Animation 4]

Relatively sub-par and simplistic gives the anime a certain "dull" style. Which in turn suits the characters well. Watching this anime in pure HD would honestly be a bit unexpectedly odd.

In any case, you will find relatively little quality in the field of animation here.

[Music 6]

Some fitting osts accentuate the humor and give more life to the scenes.
A mostly weak outro that is neither musically nor content-wise particularly noteworthy.

And an intro that could almost be a catchy tune. An interesting musical choice that fits quite well with the work.

Conclusion

School Rumble is an older comedy that takes a bit to get started until you get to know the characters better. Since these are not just flat knitted (at least not all). After a few episodes, you can feel the atmosphere that surrounds this bizarre work much more.

I would say that this anime is undoubtedly one of the better comedies you can find.

Among other things, the protagonist reminds me quite a bit of "Hasegawa" from Gintama.

Enjoyment -7
