Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren

If you liked this Show a lot for its charms and themes, you'll be a bit more disappointed in this season.
It continues to include awkward scenes and reasonably average humor, but it mutates into a very lacking character drama with no real depth, with a handful of melodrama.

The first season already had its problems, but it still managed to convince and appeal to the viewer with its atmosphere and bizarre moments. Here, on the other hand, the characters become even more simplistic and shallow. The humor has lost immense creativity since the joke is always repeated without expansion.

In at least a few weeks, I'll probably have forgotten this season completely, as it didn't have a single special moment. In every scene you just thought "ok", there was no more charisma. Someone cried there, someone cried there, and then everyone was happy again until someone was unhappy again. This is a typical mistake when a work that is more suitable as a comedy suddenly tries to become a drama. Some capable writers may be able to do this, but not this one.

[Character 4]

They introduce a new character for this series that may have the most personality and depth of character yet. Of course, only in comparison to the other, it is still sub-par. It's now completely all about Rikka, the Dark Flame Master, and Satone. Even though the new character brings in the best contrast for this series so far, this has been ruined by how hopelessly lacking in content the second season is. With better execution, Satone's presence could have been a prime development in this "eighth-grader syndrome" case.

[Animations 7]

In nothing let down, this is exactly what I expect from Kyoto Animations. They always love to animate all this moe stuff, but they're also considerably good at it. Especially the visuals of the new intro were impressive.

[Music 5] Even though the intro was better than the first, the level of osts remained relatively simple. There were only 1-2 Osts that I could remember for their style.

The second season is not too much of a disappointment, as the first one already reached relatively low potential. What is shocking, however, is how all the strengths of the first season were thrown overboard here, for lax drama and spongy dialogue. I honestly found some of the Ova better than the whole second season.

Enjoyment 5

4/10 story
7.5/10 animation
5.5/10 sound
3.5/10 characters
4.5/10 overall
