Hyperdimension Neptunia

Sep 11, 2015

Story: Complete mess, even for its supposed satirical nature. No central plot and confusing to follow along from the lack of character development to just random events. Animation: Aesthetically pleasing to watch. Sound: Appropriate where it is needed to be. But nothing special. Characters: Series way too short to develop all the characters. That being said, some characters can be very likable, but most were very forgettable due to the bad story and short series. Overall: Falls flat hard. Show needed to focus on background before... Wolf Children

Aug 18, 2015

Story: Pretty solid. Title of movie serves strong purposes to develop themes of movie. Animation: Strong background imagery.  Sound: Orchestrated music adds depth to the already captivating storyline. Characters: Very relatable for a Slice of Life. Certain characters could have been more developed to add to the story (albeit given that it's a short 2 hour movie). Overall: Defines the struggle and hardship of a single parent and what comes of it.

Tokyo Ghoul

Jul 16, 2015

Story: Actually, it has quite an interesting direction. The reason why it's not as good is because of the lack of background and focus towards to the main storyline. Animation: Too "dark" at times. Even for the purpose of a gloomy atmosphere, the contrast between happier and sadder scenes aren't well defined at times. The violence is a bit excessive, but fortunately not too much to be distracting. Sound: Again, due to the "dark" atmosphere of the show, even the sounds aren't always well defined between contrasting moments of the show. Characters: Characters... See full review

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Jul 16, 2015

Story: Main storyline is quite simple and easy to understand. Plenty of plot twists and conflicts keeps the viewers captivated. Animation: "Childish" drawing. It is a good thing to keep the satirical portions of the show intact. But the animation for about everything else, especially during the 2nd half of the show, makes it feel older than it really is. In other words, the animation is subpar considering it's a fairly recent show (at the time of this review). Sound: From rock-like music to crazy jazz-like chaotic music, it has plenty of variety to keep the show interesting and... See full review

Spice and Wolf

Jul 16, 2015

Story: Main storyline can deviate quite often and even forgettable at times, but the capture of the smaller stories that occur in the series makes up for it quite well. Animation: Although recent (from the time of this review), it is still very appealing visually to watch. From the beautiful background wilds to the townlife, it is very captivating to watch throughout the series. Sound: Although sounds tend to repeat (which is noticable at times), it is still appropriate during moments of the show. Music overall is fairly well done. Characters: The strongest aspect of the show. The... See full review

High School DxD

Jul 16, 2015

Story: Not much of a main storyline in the show. Background story somewhat makes up for it, but barely. Animation: For a less plot oriented show, it still does a good job of providing details towards more active portions of the show. Sound: Satirical music and SFX reminds the viewers not to take the show too seriously. Characters: Surprisingly, the characters have great potential to be likable, even aside from the "Fanservice" portions of the show. But unfortunately, this means that it can be distracting (good or bad) for the intention of character development. Overall: Actually not... See full review

Guilty Crown

Jul 16, 2015

Story: Plot is fairly typhical for what's given. Has a fair amount of background story given to keep the viewers interested, but at the same time, nothing too originial. Animation: Surprisingly good for what the plot is supposed to be. Visually appealing from conflicts to intimate moments. Sound: The defining trait of the show comes from the lyrical music of one of the main characters. Brings life to the desolate nature of the show. Characters: Characters are very weak in general, both in character development and how they are portrayed in the show (the "Saving Grace" being one of the... See full review

Fate/Zero 2

Jul 16, 2015

Story: Quite driven throughout the entire series. Plenty of plot twists in the story that changes the nature of the show. Animation: Absolutely strong throughout the series. From interaction between characters, fight scenes, and precious moments, the show does a great job of displaying them with detail. Sound: Appropriate settings between the intimate moments among characters. Music is good overall. Characters: Perhaps the strongest trait of the show. All characters have the potential to be very relatable and likeable with a well written background and overall character... See full review

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works 2

Jul 16, 2015

(This is a compliation of the Prologue, 1st and 2nd season of Unlimited Blade Works. This also focuses solely on the content presented and not related to any prior background or other forms of media such as the visual novel or prequel.) Story: Developed quite well throughout the entire series. Plenty of plot twists and focus for the main story to keep you interested. Animation: Well drawn animation overall. Moments between characters are the defining moments of good animation in the show. Sound: Has some good music during different moods of the series. SFX is necessary and not distracting at any... Elfen Lied

Jul 16, 2015

Story: Basic storyline is understood quite well, but the background story is very lacking. A lot of unnecessary questions are brought up constantly, which can interfere with the basic storyline. Animation: One of the few shows where excessive violence ruins the flow and nature of the show. Does a good job of showing the details, but is extremely distracting and ruins a lot of the good elements that Elfen Lied has. Sound: Intro theme summarizes a lot of the nature and mood of the show quite well. Quite beautiful scenery and music in critical moments of the show. Characters: Characters are quite... Black Lagoon

Jul 16, 2015

Story: No defining plot in the story, more like short stories. The beginning attempts to create a main storyline, but is very quickly forgotten as you go through the series. Animation: Necessary violence, but not overbearing makes it quite attractive to watch. Background fits the nature of the show quite well. Sound: Again, necessary sounds for a violent show, although it is quite profane in language. Very few distracting sounds keeps the story going. Characters: Characters are developed. Defining characteristics of characters makes them quite memorable. Overall: Pretty solid overall to watch... See full review

Fate/stay night

Jul 15, 2015

(I am looking at Fate/Stay Night from purely its content, and NOT from other sources such as the visual novel or sequels) Story: Pretty easy to understand and get into. The plot twists are handled well enough, but could be developed a lot better. Animation: Fight scenes are the defining animation strengths throughout the entire series. But during less active events can be weak sometimes. Sound: Brings in tension and serenity properly. No distracting sound elements. Characters: Transition between characters are very distracting and can cut off from intended character developmental moments. All... See full review

Future Diary

Jul 15, 2015

Story: Hunt or become hunted (summary). The overall story is pretty good, but if you get too much into it, then it can be very confusing. The series has the potential to give a lot more background behind the games, but doesn't completely do so at times. Animation: Ages well. Nothing appealing about body parts being chopped off, but it still does a good job of showing them. Sound: Supposely a more gloomy and depressing atmosphere is expected. But sometimes sounds can be distracting during crucial moments of the show. Characters: Defined by their diaries, the show does a pretty good job... See full review

Air

Jul 15, 2015

Story: Not much is said about the background of the story until halfway through the series. The main story and the background story can be confusing and distracting at times when going through this show. Animation: Absolutely gorgeous. Both the characters and the backgrounds of the story is something to take an example of for these types of anime. Sound: Again, something to take an example of. Proper use of sounds from the happy summer days to tearful events. Characters: The main characters of the story (the boy, girl, and aunt) are likeable characters. But the rest either seem underdeveloped or... See full review

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Jul 15, 2015

Story: You do not have to be a chemistry genius to get into the story. Multiple themes of family, loss of a beloved, and overall background of FA:B is done well and encaptivates you right away. Animation: Definitely ages well. Smooth detailing throughout different scenes and transitions. Sound: From orchestrated music to even the simple SFX, this show does it all (even during comedic moments). Character: Extremely likable and relatable throughout the show. The personalities of the characters challenge viewers of various themes that are highlighted in the show. Overall: It's a must-watch for... See full review

Infinite Stratos

Jul 15, 2015

Story: Weak background story and "spin-off" like episodes makes you forget the reason why these machines (IS) exist in the first place. Animation: Beautiful backgrounds and great looking machines. Even the fight scenes (albeit fewer than I orginially thought) are visually appealing. Sound: Great intro music. Fight scene sounds are also quite solid. The problem? Not enough of it. Characters: Attempts to distinguish the main heroines and hero are done quite poorly. Defined by nationality, but nothing that makes any of the characters very memorable or likable (with my exception... See full review

Highschool of the Dead

Jul 15, 2015

Story: Typhical zombie apocalypse story: You have a virus breakout caused by a big corporation and now everyone is in a panic to survive. Nothing new or originial. Animation: One of the stronger aspects of the show. Transitions from beautiful scenery to hellish city are done quite well. Sound: Nothing amazing, but nothing terrible either. Sounds can be overwhelming at times, especially the action scenes. But considering this is suppose to be humorous in some instances, this gripe is not a serious issue. Characters: The show intentionally emphasizes certain "features" of several... See full review

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Jul 15, 2015

Story:

It's really tough to analyze the story and even the backstory without some serious thought. And the ending, which is "psychoanalytical", didn't quite make sense for me. Given that there are movies that explain the events after the TV series, I'm looking solely on the series.

Animation: Perhaps for its time it looked good, but fast forward several years and you can see the age. Nothing wrong with it, but there's certainly other anime in the same timeframe that age far better than this series. Sound: One of the better intro musics, even for this time. The sounds of...
