The Royal Tutor

Jul 17, 2022

This will be a very quick review. I was too impressed not to write something for it. First off, WATCH THE MOVIE! The episodes are good, but the movie brings it all together. It's not a recap.  Now the actual review. It's rare for me to enjoy an anime AND feel satisfied when I run out of content to watch, but this show is a rare gem. With the movie, the story pretty much comes full circle. There's certainly room for the story to continue - it seems like there might be some subplots to explore- but it doesn't need to. The writing makes great use of various storytelling elements to give a... See full review

Beastars 2

Apr 1, 2022

It's not even that the anime is a little weird. It's the lack of cohesive plot that bothers me. From the very beginning, the story doesn't seem to have a purpose. We start with a murder in the first season, but that doesn't really come into play until the second season. There's a sort of, almost, barely there romance between the protagonist and another character, but that never gets much focus. There's the whole beastar thing, which the show is named for, but it's never fully explained and feels like a half-baked side plot that gets completely lost after the first season. And aside from one moment in the... See full review

The Ones Within

Jul 25, 2020

Let me just start by saying the synopsis and tags are extremely misleading. From that you'd probably expect something like Btooom or Danganrompa or Death Parade even. You'd probably expect death, violence, dark themes, a fight for one's life, sinister characters, and bloodshed. Yeah... you won't get that with this. Luckily I read hulu's description first which is slightly less misleading. It's not that the tags and description are wrong exactly. They are technically correct. There are mentions of high stakes and the posibility of death throughout the episodes but you quickly learn these threats are empty... See full review

Story: Basically a smart guy with limited real world experiences and a former rich kid with bad luck and a ton of debt end up in space together running away from a crazy debt collector and his minions. It's episodic, kind of like a planet of the week thing. Every episode they end up on a different planet, either in our solar system or made up, with a different crazy tourist attraction or issue. It's got a touch of mecha anime to it since they do have a giant (mostly useless) robot. It’s got aliens. It’s got space. It’s got jokes. Granted, the comedy is so so in some episodes. The plot is... Ajin OVA

Apr 19, 2018

As the description says, the first ep is about the Nakamura incident. The second ep takes a peek into two events during Satou's and Tanaka's lives in the first half and a few events during the other groups lives when living together. The third ep, not mentioned in the summary, shows us part of Satou's military experience starting with a scene shown towards the end of the second season (don't recall if it was shown before that). Overall, I'd say the third was probably the most worth watching.  The Nakamura incident just shows us a guy named Nakamura finding out he is an ajin, briefly dealing with... See full review

Dogs: Bullets & Carnage

Jun 23, 2017

My first thought when I read the description of this anime was "how the hec did they fit all that in to four 15 minute episodes!" Four episodes for four characters with seperate stories seemed a bit much. Curiosity got the better of me and I decided to watch it. I'm glad I did. For four episodes, this anime does a lot. Each character gets their own fourteen or so minute episode (not including the ending song) and each story and character is connected loosely but clearly. Since they are short, the characters don't really develop. We simply get a glimpse of a portion of their story. It makes me... See full review

Fuyu no Semi

Dec 5, 2016

If you don't want a sad story, don't watch this. It's like a Japanese yaoi version of Romeo and Juliet.....only I don't remember the ending to Romeo and Juliet being that depressing!  Overall, this is a really good anime with a great story. It almost fits more in the shounen-ai genre than yaoi, but there is some sex. Like many animes set in the same time period, it's very informative and focuses on the setting, what was going on in Japan at the time and the important historical events, as well as the story, which in this case, was the love between two men on oposite sides of the war.  The theme... Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA

Nov 28, 2016

THIS IS NOT A SEQUEL. And that would be part of the problem. The title and even some of the characters make it appear as a sequel. After all, if it's the same title and just double one of the letters at the end (AA) then normally it would be safe to assume it's number 2. Instead, it's a different story. Forget everything you saw in Hidan no Aria A. This anime shares some similar character names and looks and a few aspects of the setting, but that's it. The characters that reappear in this anime don't have the same personalities as in the other one. There is a lot of yuri. There is less action. Characters... See full review

High School DxD

Nov 5, 2016

This review covers all three seasons. I expected to hate this anime. I wanted to hate this anime. Unfortunately for me, it made it quite difficult to find anything to hate. Harems, nakedness, devils, angels, romance, and comedy all mixed into one anime isn't something I would expect to have a decent plot or character development. I certainly don't expect anything serious from it and I expect the writing to be sub-par. I also expect a marathon of cliches. On the other hand, I needed something dubbed so I could do some other stuff while watching and I had heard good things about this anime.  I swear... See full review

Silver Spoon

WARNING: If you cannot handle seeing where food comes from, dead animals, dead animals being butchered, or the realities of farm life then you should consider skipping this show. It’s not terrible and because it is anime it isn’t realistic.  It doesn’t get very gory or detailed for the most part but if it’s something you are sensitive about, prepare yourself or consider skipping this anime. Most of it is tame but there were a few scenes that bothered me a bit like the butchering and the caged chickens. One episode has the students watching a film about the slaughterhouse and it... Handa-kun

Oct 21, 2016

I enjoyed this anime. It was interesting and different. Here is my sort of messy review. STORY: The story is about the main character from Barakamon, Handa, when he was in his second year of high school. At that time, he was already well known for his calligraphy and for being the son of a great calligrapher. He is the most popular guy in school, but there is one problem…HE DOESN’T KNOW HE IS POPULAR. It’s the opposite actually. He thinks he is hated by everyone. He interprets every action intended to help him as an expression of hatred towards him. When someone tells him not to worry... See full review

Kaiji - Ultimate Survivor

Oct 14, 2016

I feel like I can see the future. The events are so predictable. After the first ten episodes, probably less, you already know how the whole thing has to play out. Sure there may be a bit of doubt at the very end, except there is a second season so you kind of know how it has to end still and if you read the description then you can be sure of it. Most predictable show ever. It's not just that you already know how things will turn out, but that they ultimately always turn out the same!! The means to get there may differ slightly but the end is the same. And no, I'm not one of those people that can... See full review

This review has been updated to cover episode one and two  (The second episode is far better than the first.) STORY: The main character is a NEET blogger hoping to get rich from his blog. His partner your typical ditzy big boobed girl. He meets a famouse fortune teller from his school who wants to help him for some reason. The mc goes to a mans house to talk to him and instead finds a dead body.  FIRST IMPRESSIONS are very important. The mind relies on them to make decisions and they influence how we perceive what follows the first impression. For a story, first impressions often... See full review

Cheating Craft

Oct 6, 2016

ATTENTION!!! This review is a first impressions review based off the first two episodes. Just from the description, I expect a mess. The entire first episode only further convinces me that this is probably not worth watching. But what the hec. The idea isn’t anything new. A similar idea appears in Assassination Classroom and Baka to Test, and a couple others I don’t remember the name of. Tests/grades determine who succeeds in life.  Battles are fought. The whole thing is kind of hilarious but not in the laugh and enjoy a comedy hilarious but the this is so stupid and ridiculous... See full review

ATTENTION!!! This review is for the first episode ONLY. It may or may not be updated later on. If you have a problem with that, then don’t read it. A cure for an illness used years ago turned humans into something not human…I’ve heard this before….there better not be any dogs dying in this!!!! Bloodivores were people who took a medicine which turned them into something akin to vampires. I have a hard time buying that one for some reason, but whatever. The anime opens with some guy driving a car with a girl and being chased by cop cars. It’s one of those, here is... See full review

If you could go back to high school for one year all expenses paid, would you? The mc quit his first job after three months due to an incident at the company that traumatized him. Since then, all he could get was part-time work. He had become a NEET kind of. One night as he walks home drunk he recieves a phone call from his mother telling him his parents would no longer help him out finacially. A young man appears before him and suggests he become a test subject for an experiment for a year. All he has to do is take a pill that will make him look younger and attend high school for a year. Omoi no Kakera

Sep 7, 2016

There isn't much to this movie. There is no strong theme or conflict. It's the embodiment of the genre, a litteral random slice out of someones life.  The main character is a 13 year old high school student and ice skater. Most of the scenes and issues are about ice skating or her mother who passed away years ago.  I never felt like I got a good sense of most of the characters or felt like there was any point to this story. It wasn't exactly boring, but I spent most of it waiting for something to happen or for the point of the story to be realized. Before I knew it, there were only four minutes... See full review

Shigofumi Special

Sep 4, 2016

This will be short since it's just one episode. Ignore my spellign. It's late. I reccommend watching this episode. I felt like the ending of the anime (episode 12) was rather open ended. The main issues were solved and all, but it didn't feel closed. This episode helps close it. It takes place in the school where Fumiko, Natsuka, and Kaname attend, which is the same school where the bulling incidents took place in the earlier episodes of the series. The audience sort of finds out what happened to the characters from those episodes. The youngger sister of the boy who killed himself wasnts to get revenge on... See full review

Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy- Despair Arc

Jul 14, 2016

So apparently the events of this anime happen before the events of the other Danganronpa this season and the original anime. I still don't understand where the original anime fits in to this exactly or how (so if someone knows...please tell me!!) but I guess it is probably after this story too. To be honest, I don't know if this one will be all that interesting. It is supposed to lead up the the huge despair distaster while the other Danganronmpa this season happens after. Do we ever get to see what actually happened during the huge despair thing or are we just going to talk about it in past and future... See full review

Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy- Future Arc

Jul 13, 2016

EDIT: It doesn't start where the first anime ends but much later after some big war like event happens. It does however show the ending of the first anime towards the end in a flashback from a different person's point of view. Supposedly the games explain it but since I don't play games or have the first clue how to, I can't confirm that. It's just what I have been told. However, if you watch Danaganronpa, Danganronpa 3: Despair, and Danganronpa 3: Future, you can still make sense of what is going on. You won't have all the little details, but it's not a big deal. Final Review: I would... See full review

Qualidea Code

Jul 13, 2016

It starts out in the middle of the invasion (which reminded me of War of the Worlds). Red tones add to the sense of fear and death. Scenes of explosions, some giant thing, a broken city, and fire take up much of the first two minutes. Sounds of evacuation orders, pilots speaking on their radios, falling rubble, explosions, and a young child crying and his sisters comforting words to him fill the speakers. The day the world ended for the first time.  Wait, how many times can a world end......? Does it have nine lives? uhhh...anyway...all that boom and doom stuff ends after two minutes and we see a guy... See full review

91 Days

Jul 9, 2016

I was a little confused by the first episode since I'm so terrible at remembering names. It's certainly not my favorite of this season but it could be interesting. I like the time setting at least and the art is good. The way they started the episode was a little weird and confusing. Hopefully it will clear up later. I will probably continue watching it.

Alderamin on the Sky

Jul 9, 2016

THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE FIRST EPISODE ONLY! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN DON'T READ IT. IT'S THAT SIMPLE. I think this could turn out to be a good one. It has an interesting mix of characters, the starting place for the plot is unique, and it appears to combine multiple elements of various genres in an appealing way....plus those sprites are CUTE!! They are so tiny and quiet and they fit in a pocket!  So far, we have shipwrecked characters in enemy territory who were originally on there way to take a military exam. Planetarian

Jul 8, 2016

Updated after second episode. The setting is interesting although I doubt it will be explained thoroughly. The plot seems to be centered around the relationship of a robot girl who used to work at a planetarium and is unaware of the city's current condition and a junker who stumbled upon her by mistake. The audience has only been given a little bit of information about the mans background and what happened to the city and the world through the mans dreams and memories. The man stumbles upon the robot and, at first, wants nothing more than to get away from the overly talkative machine. Unfortunately for... See full review

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

Jul 8, 2016

The main character has psychic powers and has just started high school. The episodes are short, less that five minutes long. The worst part about this show is the abrupt endings of the episodes. The fourth episode wasn't as bad, but the first three felt like someone just randomly cut it off before it was finished.  The characters are a bit extreme and funny to watch. There isn't really a continuous plot and each episode is seperate. It's enjoyable, but I wish it was a bit longer or at least didn't end so abruptly.

Servamp

Jul 8, 2016

The first episode of this anime looks promising. The main character doesn't like anything troublesome. That's his reason for taking on jobs that no one wants and going way out of his for things because fighting, deciding, all that stuff is troublesome so he does it himself. Most people would think doing it yourself is troublesome. Then you have the vampire kitty/human servant who also dislikes anything troublesome. He prefers to run away and not get involved. Both characters hate troublesome things but how they view what is troublesome and how to deal with it is the opposite. The first episode was funny and... See full review

Tsukiuta. The Animation

Jul 7, 2016

There aren't many animes focused on male idol groups (idk if Macross has any but it doesn't sound like it really fits in this category). Along with B-Project, Tsukita was introcuded this summer season. On one hand, the lack of these animes in the past could mean they don't appeal to a wide audience and won't do well. On the other, it's more unique. For me, the idea of watching female idols sounds boring and obnoxious, however male idols may be a different story. So far there is only one episode and I am eagerly awaiting the next to see where it's going. It's plot isn't as predictable as B-Project. However... See full review

It's hard to know what to expect after just one episode. Of the first episodes I've watched for this season so far, this one stood out most to me. It seems pretty simple. Several friends make friends with the transfer student and the main character gets a letter from her future self detailing what will happen and what she should do differently to avoid having a lot of regrets in ten years. The story seems rather predictable, but only if it actually turns out how I think it will. I think that makes me more interested and eager to see the rest because I want to know if that is what will really... See full review
