Sasaki and Miyano

Jun 5, 2022

If you look up "slow burn", it'll show you a picture of Sasaki and Miyano. Seriously, it's the slowest of burns, but oh well, it was kinda fun at least! This is a spoiler-free review, although it's not like there are any spoilers to be found. Story 7/10 Boy meets boy. Boy falls in love. Other boy is confused. Boy also falls in love. Very basic plot but hey, this is a slice of life anime, so of course, the plot doesn't actually matter. I will say, having Miyano as a dedicated BL fan, despite claiming to be straight, was undoubtedly funny to me. Sasaki developing feelings over how passionate he is... See full review

Mob Psycho 100

Jun 5, 2022

Thoroughly enjoyable, this was an effortless watch. I'm writing this review a week or two after watching it, so it's not as fresh in my mind, and I apologise for that. But anyway, let's get to the point! Minor spoilers for characters, but feel free to skip that entire paragraph, everything else is completely spoiler free. Story 8/10 If there was any fault in this absolutely delightful little anime, it would be that the plot is subpar. The whole "rise of a secret society that only the protagonist can defeat" is a story thread that I think has been thoroughly explored already. However, I love... See full review

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 3: Rebellion

Jun 2, 2022

Now that I've wiped all my tears and snot away, I'll get on with writing the review. This movie is nothing less than incredible, and I absolutely was not expecting to love it as much as I did. This is a spoiler-free review! Story 10/10 The story is amazing. It's the same case as with the original series, where the beginning is actually closer to the end. This movie takes place after the events of Puella Magi Madoka Magica and, as such, you should absolutely finish that before anything else. However, it is immediately obvious even 10 minutes into the movie that things are slightly different. As... See full review

Komi Can't Communicate

Dec 24, 2021

Ah, this was such a sweet and wholesome anime. I haven't read the manga but I definitely want to after watching this! I'll do a quick run-through, point by point, of my scores for Komi Can't Communicate. This is a spoiler-free review! Story 7/10 It's a slice of life anime so there isn't a lot going on story-wise, other than an overarching goal for Komi. Still, events that happen in episodes are referred to in the following episodes, so there aren't any inconsistencies or glaring faults. Animation 9/10 The animation is wonderful! There are a few mock battle scenes that... See full review

Devilman: Crybaby

Dec 15, 2021

Well, then. Let me start by just saying: what the fuck did I just watch. And now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the actual review. Devilman: Crybaby was an Experience, one that I can’t say I enjoyed, but I didn’t end up dropping it so I guess I didn’t hate it. I’ve never consumed any Devilman media prior to this, I don’t know if that matters or not, but I thought I’d point it out anyway. Now, I’ll break down my review point by point, as I’ve started doing recently.  Story 8/10 By far the show’s strongest point, the story was... See full review

Link Click

Dec 9, 2021

Absolutely loved watching this, and I think this may have been my favourite show of the year. Let's break it down point by point. Minor spoilers, in terms of the premise of the story and characterisation. Story 9/10 If I were to fault Link Click with one thing, it would be that the overall story is cliched. Minor spoiler, but it's another time travel story outlining why time travel is bad. It's been done a million times over and it's done again here. But here's the thing: I don't think having such an ordinary is bad. Actually, the whole reason why Link Click was able to capture me so... See full review

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2

Sep 5, 2021

In one word, this second season is fun. While I did enjoy season one, the first half of season two just felt to me much more fun. By this point, I'm actually invested in the characters and this world. There's plot points which has me rolling my eyes because of cliches, and the dialogue is far from perfect. But I've never been one to care about plot (I wouldn't watch the amount of sports anime I do if I cared about that) and dialogue is a balancing act between wonderfully funny and befuddling. Neither of those short comings prevent the anime from being genuinely fun. I'm looking forward to the... See full review

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Sep 2, 2021

Nothing too overwhelming. This is another anime that I started watching just to have something on in the background of me playing video games. Its okay, pretty fun all things considered, but again, nothing too outstanding. Main problem I have with it is that there are far, far too many characters, but honestly, its not the big a deal. Overall, good for putting on in the background of you doing other stuff, probably not worth sitting down and specifically spending time on it though.

Kill La Kill

Aug 27, 2021

If ever there was an anime to make me feel conflicted, its Kill La Kill. On the one hand, I would never have purposefully taken the time out of my life to watch this. The only reason I actually did watch it is because I wanted something in the background while I played the Ace Attorney games. And even then, there were points in the first 15 episodes where I almost dropped it The nudity was very much off putting to me (these are high school kids???) and for a comedy anime, there was very little actual humor that I could find. Mostly, I was uncomfortable and grossed out. Not the experience I was looking... See full review

Kill La Kill Special

Aug 27, 2021

I'll keep this short. I watched all of Kill La Kill, and had to drag myself through bits of it. This short didn't give me the same issue, and honestly the main reason for that is it didn't have as much fan service. The characters were mostly clothed, and the story as a continuation of the original series worked well. It was short and sweet, and I had to smile at points because the characters had finally, finally, shown signs of development. Enjoyed this a lot more than the original series but, unfortunately, it's impossible to watch without watching Kill La Kill.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Aug 19, 2021

Broke me when I was only 12 and this was my first anime, and I'd let it break me again. The slow transformation (pun intended) of the show from magical girls to something so much more, and so much darker, is a great entry into anime. At least, that's how it was for me, and for my brother. I would definitely recommend the show to everyone. Some may not like it, but to be honest, I genuinely can't find any flaws. Rewatching this anime, too, is a very special experience, although nothing in my life has come close to making me feel how I did the first time watching this show. 1000/10

Sarazanmai

Aug 19, 2021

I'm rating it 3.75 out of 10, just because thats how the individual ratings hold up when averaged, but I literally couldn't bear to watch the show any longer. I held up for 9 episodes, and I honestly wish I hadn't because thats time I could have spent doing literally anything else. Watching paint dry would have been only slightly more painful. Things done well or, at least, not horribly I want to first point out the good stuff in the anime. The animation was alright. It wasn't anything too spectacular, but the colours and surrealist style at times were captivating. The sound design was honestly worse... See full review

Stars Align

Aug 18, 2021

Going into this anime, I had very little hope. Whenever previously I've tried to watch shows with a lot of drama, I found myself quickly losing interest. Not so with Stars Align. I will say, head the trigger warnings because they are very much relevant and going into this anime thinking everything is going to be fine, or that the themes of trauma will be barely noticeable is a big mistake. Its a huge part of the story and characters. I also want to note that, unfortunately, the story ends with a cliffhanger but this was not done intentionally. Even a tiny bit of online research will point out that... See full review

Haikyuu!! To the Top

Feb 28, 2021

Okay, let's take it point by point. First of all: Story. To be completely honest, Haikyuu's story does not stand out at all. It's the classic tale of an underdog with high ambitions and determination fighting against common expectations and rising to the top. This season of the show doesn't stray far from that basis. But I will say, pushing the main character down enough to make him seem normal is unusual and all the more refreshing for it. Overall? The story is bland. Animation. So this is weird because, technically, the animation quality has only improved for the show, with To the Top being the most... See full review
