Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Apr 19, 2022

I originally read this prequel of JJK and went in knowing generally what was going to happen. Even so, it did not hamper my experience. I got to see the movie in theatres which definately improved my experience of watching this. The animation during the fight scenes and dramatic/emotional moments was animated spectacularly. The soundtracks and music used were awesome and really helped hype up the experience. I don't think it was as great as Demon Train with animation/hype, but it wasn't bad at all. I recommend giving it a watch. Yuuta as a protagonist was actually quite relatable for me so I think I've... See full review

Obey Me!

Feb 20, 2022

If you're going into this anime completely blind then you will most likely not enjoy this one, as it relies on you already knowing the characters and being able to understand the world and the ongoing inside jokes. Perhaps due to a small budget and the ongoing pandemic, especially as this is Solmare's first somewhat successful game, the anime was unfortunately limited to being short, comedic, and in an OVA-like style. As a long time fan, I can only hope we get a proper adaptation in the future, but for now I am thankful this even exists. Since I play the game daily since its release, I truly enjoyed this... A lot of people will pass this up because it's a Chinese animation. HOWEVER, that's completely their loss because THIS IS AMAZING. AOTY worthy even.  The concept of going back into the past to fix things isn't exactly new, it's been done in anime before several times. However the way it's done feels reminiscent of steins gate and violet evergarden. The characters really get you invested right away. There's no nonsense and it gets down to business quickly.  We have our 2 main leads which have a very wholesome and cute working relationship and who, despite being polar opposites personality wise... Kuro Gyaru ni Natta kara Shinyuu to Yattemita.

Jul 27, 2021

It's a very short 8 episodes with only less than 5-6 minutes per episode. However it packs a very basic plot nicely within this time. The main characters Shion and Rui have a really wholesome relationship which survives spontanious gender swaps and the awakening realizion that they're both bisexual. It's a really cute show honestly, I wasn't expecting it. Also no weird noncon and the usual cringe stuff you see in BL. Shion was especially adorable being tsundere and shy. Definately recommend this one.

The Stranger by the Shore

Mar 21, 2021

No stolkholm syndrome, no weird noncon scenes, and no vagueness or implying of a relationship. This movie slaps you hard in the face with all of its beautiful, wholesome gayness.  The relationship between Shun and Mio is very realistic, it builds up slowly and naturally. It's just two guys who fell in love with each other.  These characters at first glance appear to be surface level, but as the movie progresses, it gets deeper and more nuanced. Having never experienced homophobia before, Mio is eager to be as close to Shun as he can, whilst Shun struggles with the bullying... Rent-A-Girlfriend

Sep 30, 2020

In Japan, you can rent a girlfriend in exchange for cash, so of course they turned it into an anime. We're introduced to Kazuya, a whimpy and desperate guy (usually the type of dude who rents girlfriends) and from there we get to meet best girl Chizuru, monster girl Mami, sweet girl Ruka and soft girl Sumi.  Kazuya has a lot of issues at the start of the anime, but he is slowly getting better after meeting Chizuru, even if he makes mistakes. He's not a bad guy, and he can be quite likable at times as well. The girls, like Chizuru, is what really sells the show. Whether you like mature and responsible... See full review

The God of High School

Sep 30, 2020

ENDLESS TOURNAMENT ARCS!! AWESOME FIGHT SCENES AND ANIMATION! All of which are animated using real life fighters! Studio Mappa and the GoH team really went all out to make the fighting as unique and creative as possible! So you're in for a treat if you're a shounen nerd like me! The sound is hype as hell and very well composed, even the opening and ending songs are beautiful and addicting to listen to and watch. The characters are lovable and memorable, and they're not one dimensional. The story is great too, but for the sake of packing it all into 13 episodes, they had to remove a few tidbits here and... Children of the Sea

Sep 17, 2020

It was OK. The art was beautiful, animation and art style was unique but fitting. Characters were a bit bland in personality and their dialogues were not that impressive. The movie sounded like it wanted to be intellectual and philosophical but whatever message it had was lost on me. Also her mom being a drunk, and her relationship with her parents wasn't really delved into too much. It feels like they were broken up for literally no reason, and alcohol was just thrown in there but somehow mom magically got over it. Also the teacher only punishing her instead of her bully is nonsensical. Sora also tried to... See full review

Beastars

Aug 1, 2020

If you're skipping out on this show because you're worried that it's going to be weird furry porn or something along those lines, then you're really missing out on a good anime.  Beastars, similar to Zootopia, explores the divide between prey and predator but to a more serious and realistic level. It also explores discrimination and bullying, as well as resisting or loathing your true nature. It's a beautiful show featuring a socially awkward wolf who quietly pines for a small rabbit girl that just wants to be seen as a person, and not a weak prey.  It's full of lively and unique characters that... Carole & Tuesday

Jul 24, 2020

I have a LOT I want to say in this review, so there will be plenty of spoilers ahead. If you're just looking to see if you should watch this show, YES. WATCH THIS SHOW. I'm going to explain everything about Carole & Tuesday that in my opinion makes it a masterpiece as a netflix original.  There's several themes and arcs going on in this show that you don't see at first, but it all slowly unfolds together in a way that makes complete sense to the main storyline. The main premise is of course, two girls who start from the bottom with absolutely nothing to their name who slowly make it as musicians... See full review

Japan Sinks 2020

Jul 21, 2020

Japan Sinks is like an unintentional road trip gone horrendously wrong. You're constantly on the edge of your seat waiting for the next ball to drop, and just when you think things will get better, they don't.  Despite the terrible circumstances and traumatic incidents the characters face, and despite the many losses, the spirit of the Japanese people to always keep going forward despite hardships perserveres. This is a story about this fundamental philosophy that drives Japanese society forward, and what makes it so successful despite all odds.  The characters are all quirky and loveable, with... A Whisker Away

Jul 20, 2020

A Whisker Away is absolutely beautiful. I really enjoyed watching this movie. I was fully invested in the story from start to finish, unable to tear my eyes away. The characters, especially Miyo, were so entertaining to watch on screen and learn about. I loved their interactions, their background stories, and how they came to understand one another. I loved the yokai cat world elements and more. The animation was great and the art was beautiful. I enjoyed the music as well. Definately worth the watch. One of my favorite animated movies now.  Overall: 9/10

Fruits Basket 1st Season

Jul 2, 2020

Back when I was a young teenager, I watched the original 2001 Fruits Basket anime. After learning the anime was cut short, I immediately binged the manga from the beginning to end. It was an amazing emotional trip from start to finish, and thus Fruits Basket remained forever in my heart as a timeless classic.  Now as a young adult, the news that this would be remade made me excited but also anxious. There's been a lot of bad remakes (*Coughs at Berserk*) but still, the new designs and artwork looked beautiful, and they were promising to finish it this time.  I was given more than anything I... JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012)

Jun 27, 2020

For years I put off watching Jojo's. I thought the art style was too out there, the men were too macho, and that it would just be another Dragon Ball Z musclehead disappointment. I was a fucking idiot, clearly. I finally gathered the sense to give Jojo's a try during quarentine, and boy, I'm glad I did.  Part 1, which is the beginning of everything starts us off in a late victiorian era feud between Dio and Jonathan for the claim to his fathers fortune. It slowly builds us up, fueling the intensity between the two rivals so that when the next part hits (Battle in Egypt), it hits harder and better than... See full review

Tower of God

Jun 27, 2020

The manhua/webtoon is way better than the anime. If you hated the anime then at least give the webtoon a shot, since it's much more in depth. A lot of important scenes and plot points are cut out, and a lot of content in the anime is original. I'm glad that we're finally starting to see webtoons and manhua become part of the anime world and handled by a bigger production. However I will not hold back on my criticism with how it turned out.   The art was unique but at times it felt plain and devoid of life. The animation was nothing remarkable. Sound was great because of Kevin Penkin. I enjoyed the... See full review

Fire Force

Jun 14, 2020

Fire Force has a great story, action, animation, art, music, and characters. I genuinely enjoyed watching it and there was several scenes where I really laughed my ass off at the characters antics. You really feel part of the 8th division, which gives you a real sense of family made by a bunch of outcasts. The main complaints seem to be fanservice, and though it's often not necessary and overdone, it's something that just comes with the territory of watching anime. It's everywhere. At times it actually added to the jokes and made scenes even funnier. The show does shift to a more serious tone after... See full review

Dr. Stone

Jun 7, 2020

This anime made me appreciate things that I previously never thought of or cared for.  What would happen if suddenly, the current world as we know it reverted back to the prehistoric age? That's the question that Dr. Stone poses. Then it pits two different philosophies against each other. One that believes we recover what was lost, our current modern world, and advance it once again with science. The other believes we should start from scratch and be content to stay that way, abandoning science and those who used it for power and greed. These two beliefs are what drive the story forward as these... See full review

Gakuen Heaven

Jun 7, 2020

It's a very cliche BL story filled with the same annoying tropes you'd see anywhere. The villian characters are painful to watch because of how bad they are at being villians.  Lots of boring and unnecessary characters. Most do not get any character development or simply exist as some one dimensional cliche.  Though some side characters like the schools doctor ended up being more interesting than the main character and more complex with a deeper backstory. I could not stand the twins at all. I wish they didn't exist in the show. The "drama" in the story felt very unnecessary... See full review

Interspecies Reviewers

May 8, 2020

Interspecies Reviewers is a timeless classic. A fine art, aged beautifully and pumped out into pure perfection. I would even dare call it Anime of the Year. This is a completely serious review, I am totally not joking. Go along on a journey of honest debachery, and watch as two perverts corrupt an innocent angel along the way. This is the truest form of character growth, even Horikoshi could take a lesson as our best boy? Girl? Who cares! Angel-chan gets even more character development than Deku. Watch as every kind of girl you can possibly think of gets the ultimate ride of her life. And if hetero... See full review

Re:Creators

Jul 19, 2019

A hidden gem. This anime was unfortunately drowned out admist the more popular animes of the season. If you haven't seen Re:Creators, you need to.  This story brings an original premise. What if the characters came to our world? What if our creations literally came to life?  As the story progresses, the characters and their quirks and interactions inevitably grow on you. I found myself sympathizing with Altair in the end.  I cannot stress enough how clever this story was written. The finale was in itself genius.  If you're more into action, don't worry there's plenty of fighting... See full review

Bungo Stray Dogs 3rd Season

Jul 1, 2019

This will be my general review about the series as a whole up until this current season.  It's been a while since a decent anime about detectives and mobsters has come about. Both tropes have been done to death certainly. Yet, Bungou Stray Dogs doesn't shy away from this. It knows it's cliched with all its dark and edgy tropes and rolls with it.  The amount of bad suicide jokes from Dasai and flashbacks of Atsushis abuse as a child could put Narutos emo edginess to shame. This has potential to turn many viewers off. Still, something about the show made me persist.  As I watched more... See full review

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Jul 1, 2019

I can't not love this show or the protagonist Rimuru. Yes, it's another "damned isekai", but it's not just any isekai! Our protagonist is a slime! Have you ever heard of a tsundere dragon? No? Well now you have! A GOD DAMNED TSUNDERE DRAGON! AMAZING!  Watching Rimuru use his wits to try and get everyone to work together and join his aliance, slowly gaining power and fighting to maintain peace (even if that isn't what he planned) is nothing short of entertaining. I found myself cracking at the jokes often and enjoying the characters on screen whenever they appeared.  This is one of... See full review

The Rising of the Shield Hero

Jul 1, 2019

If you're a seasoned anime veteran like myself, you've seen many Isekai shows before. You know all the tropes and what to expect from the story. Shield Hero knows that, and thus it grabs your expectations by the balls (literally) and smashes them into bits.  In your typical isekai anime, protagonist-kun has everything and is completely overpowered from the start. It's pure wish-fulfillment for the viewer to insert themselves into and nothing more. Shield Hero takes a different kind of viewer for a spin. This isn't your wish-fulfilment anime.  From the get-go we are introduced to the ugly... See full review

Girls Last Tour features two young girls, Chito and Yuuri, whom slowly weld their way into your heart as you get to know them and follow them along on their journey. Despite how hopeless and desolate their situation is, they don't give up and continue forward, fighting to survive and hold onto hope that perhaps they'll discover something different up ahead.  Despite the depressing premise, it's not a story that's overtly intense or action-packed. This is not the story for you if that's the expectation you have, or the type of media you crave.  (Spoilers from here on out, yes you should watch... See full review

Soul Eater

Jul 30, 2018

I end this show feeling as if it was rushed. They never fully explained the backstories of much of the characters besides black star, chrona, or dr stein. We never get to see Makas mother. Not to mention 3 whole episodes are wasted on excalibur and don't further the plot in any way. I rather they spent those episodes on adding more to the story or the fight but they didn't. Also Makas relationship with her dad remains stagnant and never changes. Its clear he loves her and wants to be a good dad for her but she refuses to give him a chance. I would've liked to see them interact more positively but it never... See full review

Spoiler filled review: By the second episode I wanted to drop this because of the protagonist but the other characters kept me going. With a different protagonist I could definately enjoy this anime. I just didn't like her for several reasons, but I did find myself liking all the other characters especially the side ones more. The romance with her and Anzai just felt too Twilighty for me. I mean he's a good guy but it pisses me off how this mc tosses all her friends aside despite knowing them for years and shows no regard or care for anything that isn't Anzai. The Ancient Magus' Bride

Jun 25, 2018

I finished this anime with disappointment and relief that it was finally over.  When I first started out I was hooked into the characters, the world, and the story of Chise. However after some point it felt like the story forgot itself and became lost. I found myself wondering why I was still watching but pushed through in hopes things would change. It didn't.  In the first episodes Chise was sold and bought by Elias, which is great that he saved her from being bought by any potential weirdos, or so I thought. Short ver: Go watch it. The animation is great. Art is beautiful. Story is top tier. Characters are relatable if you've experienced traumatic things. The soundtrack is okay but nothing too brilliant. Spoiler territory ahead. You've been warned. Like Violet, trauma has left me with numerous scars that unfortunately do not easily heal. I could find myself relating to her even when she started out very "emotionless"  and "cold". It's just something you develop in order to cope with horrendous things.
