Tower of God

The manhua/webtoon is way better than the anime. If you hated the anime then at least give the webtoon a shot, since it's much more in depth. A lot of important scenes and plot points are cut out, and a lot of content in the anime is original. I'm glad that we're finally starting to see webtoons and manhua become part of the anime world and handled by a bigger production. However I will not hold back on my criticism with how it turned out.

The art was unique but at times it felt plain and devoid of life. The animation was nothing remarkable. Sound was great because of Kevin Penkin. I enjoyed the Korean opening and ending songs, but I felt the animation in both of them was lacking any excitement or uniqueness. The characters barely get any development within the limited 13 episode chunk that the show was given, but I can say they all get substantially better in the webtoon. I really enjoyed this up until the nearing final episode, which I have a big rant about below. Overall, 7/10. Could be better.

(Episode 13 spoiler:)
In the webtoon, the reasoning behind Rachels betrayal is kept a secret even as far as the middle of the story. In the anime, they spend an entire episode explaining it to death to the audience which completely kills any mystery around their fucked up relationship. Not to mention, Rachel is portrayed in a much kinder, fragile light than in the story, where she's a flat out ruthless jerk. She literally stabbed Bam and then pushed him, but that was also cut out from the anime. It shows him just slowly sinking to the bottom from being pushed. Not attempting to swim. Logically it makes no sense for him to randomly be floating downwards this way, unless he was stabbed. Which was removed for some godforsaken reason.

6/10 story
5/10 animation
9/10 sound
7/10 characters
7/10 overall
