Toshiro Hijikata is deeper than he would like us to see. A life punctuated by trauma, hardship and pain has made him into a reclusive mask of a man. Bound by duty (and sometimes the dereliction of it) to help and serve... while trying to make it as subtle and stoic as possible. He helps others by giving them the hardest lessons, knowing that they will succeed.
