Hello there. I got into anime and manga in the early 2000s thanks to Toonami and Adult Swim. Some of my early favorites were DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Gungrave and Rurouni Kenshin. Those stories were practically life-changing for me at the time. I used to tape episodes on my VCR, especially for the late night shows I couldn't stay up to watch. 

In 2016ish, I got into streaming and have since expanded my library of shows thanks to how affordable and easy they are to access now.

I watch dubs almost exclusively and usually don't keep up with all of the latest seasonal shows (or at least can't manage to). I'm very appreciative of voice actors and ADR directors and view their input as roughly 25% of the anime experience. I beleive in supporting the North American distributors as much as possible, and only streaming legally. If you use pirate streaming sites, we're probably not going to get along. 

I think the biggest problems with the general anime community as of late are snobbery, piracy, immaturity, generally abrasive behavior/poor social skills. 

I believe in trying to see the merits of any given title, and prefer to appreciate the quality of art rather than consume the greater quantity. I'll watch many shows over and over again for this purpose. I see anime genres as niche markets within a niche market. Certain ideas are designed to appeal to certain people; none are objectively good or bad. Given that, one can appreciate shows outside one's demographic, or enjoy "flawed" shows, so long as one can understand the intent behind them. This allows for a more versatile viewing experience, and renders the rating system and the idea of writing reviews highly subjective, and ultimately only useful for personal reference.
